Work It Daily's Free Job Search Resource: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ 8 Smart Questions To Ask Hiring Managers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y95eI-ek_E8 Don't get STUMPED by tricky interview questions! Instead, learn how to answer them effectively. In this video, career expert J.T. O'Donnell reveals her SECRET to answering behavior interview questions so you can crush your job interviews every time. A behavioral interview questions is an open-ended questions, meaning it doesn't result in a one-word answer like “yes” or “no.” Instead, it requires the interviewee to elaborate and give a more personalized answer. Hiring managers use behavioral interview questions to help determine if candidates have the skills or experience to do the job. The best way to answer these types of questions is to structure your answers using the Experience, Learn, and Grow model. Experience + Learn = Grow. - Explain your experience. Share a situation you dealt with in the past. What was the problem or challenge that had to be overcome? - Talk about how you overcame it and how you accomplished it. - Explain how you’re going to take this lesson and use it to keep growing as professional so you can add even more value in similar situations in the future. Here are some common behavioral interview questions you could get asked in your next interview: - What's your greatest accomplishment on the job? - Tell me about a difficult situation you encountered and how you overcame it. - If I was to ask a co-worker about you, how would they describe you on-the-job? - If someone came to you with an enthusiastic, yet unrealistic request, how would you handle it? Take these three questions and start practicing structuring your answers using the Experience, Learn, and Grow method. __________________________________ If you’re having a hard time even getting interviews, check out our free resource that could help address some issues that could be holding you back. https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ And, if you want J.T. and her team to help you become a pro at interviewing, negotiating and more, then you need to check out our Premium Subscription: https://www.workitdaily.com/pricing/ Follow Work It Daily: https://www.workitdaily.com/ https://twitter.com/workitdaily?lang=en https://www.facebook.com/groups/WorkItDaily https://www.facebook.com/WorkItDaily/ #Interview #InterviewTips #JobSearch

Free list of common interview questions: https://www.workitdaily.com/common-job-interview-questions/ Check out our FREE job search tutorial: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ I’ll let you in on a little secret… Hiring managers want to understand your potential, value, and goals before making a decision to welcome you to their organizations. That’s why it’s important to emphasize these things whenever you communicate with employers. That means demonstrating them in your resume and cover letter, on your LinkedIn profile, during your job interview, and whenever you interact with the organization in general. But how can you do that? I’m going to go over the three key statements you need to convey every time you interact with a potential employer. #1. Explain Your Go-To Potential These are the problem(s) you solve or the pain you alleviate. What are you uniquely qualified to do on the job? #2. Spell Out The Your Value Explain to them the value you bring by solving these problems or alleviating those pains. Share how you save or make companies money. Or, in some cases, how you do both. HERE'S THE FREE LINK to the Career decoder: https://www.workitdaily.com/quiz/ #3. Short-Term Goal Tell them about a short-term goal that will leverage your strengths and bring value to the organization. Take your skill sets to the next level. This shows them that you can hit the ground running and already know what you want to accomplish. _________________________________ Learn how to write a cover letter recruiters and hiring managers will love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdUafTx82OM Click this link and get access to J.T.'s FREE TUTORIAL on what it takes to remove the roadblocks to job search: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ And, if you want J.T. and her team to help you become a pro at interviewing, negotiating and more, then you need to check out our Premium Subscription. 4 A's for Acing The Group Interview

06:19
Check out our FREE list of the most common interview questions: https://www.workitdaily.com/common-job-interview-questions/ Are you READY to get HIRED? Watch this free tutorial: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ Intimidated by group interviews? You're not alone! It's scary enough interviewing with one person... let alone multiple! But you can really impress the hiring team if you know what to do during group job interviews. In this tutorial, career expert J.T. O'Donnell shares her secrets for acing group interviews (every single time). Companies conduct group interviews because they are an efficient way for hiring teams to talk with candidates. Instead of having candidates come in for multiple interviews with different people, they can meet with everyone who has a stake in the hiring process at once. This shortens the process for everyone involved because, once you leave, the team can discuss their thoughts on the spot and decide whether or not you’re a fit. While this interview strategy works well for companies, it can be stressful for you as a candidate. That’s why I’m going to share a few tips that will help you navigate these group interviews. #1. Answer Questions #2. Ask For Input #3. Articulate What You Hear #4. Apply What You Hear During a group interview, or any interview really, you don’t want to just sit there, answering questions. Instead, you need to engage with the group, get them talking, and create a healthy dialogue. These tips will help you ace that group interview and stand out from the rest of the candidates. 2 Things Recruiters HATE To Read On Cover Letters

03:07
Download our FREE cover letter samples: https://www.workitdaily.com/cover-letter-samples/ With the way the hiring process is these days, recruiters are flooded with thousands of cover letters. Trying to sift through them all can be a daunting process. On top of this, most cover letters are generic and tell the recruiter nothing about you. But there are a couple of things recruiters really CAN'T STAND when it comes to cover letters. Career expert and Work It Daily founder J.T. O'Donnell is going to share what those things are and why you should stop doing them NOW... #1: To Whom It May Concern Using the phrase comes off as old-fashioned, impersonal, and shows that you didn't do your homework on the company. Instead use "Dear Hiring Team", "Dear Hiring Manager" or better yet find the name of the person who posted the job. # 2: Recap of your resume. Writing out your accomplishment and rehashing what's already in your resume is wasting the recruiters time. Also, you could list the wrong thing in your cover letter could make them decide you're not a good fit and they won't even look at your resume. Instead, you need a disruptive cover letter. How To Get Hired When Changing Careers

05:22
Work It Daily's Free Job Search Resource: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ 4 Tips For Choosing A Career Path: https://youtu.be/1DVM2Xbx5Ks FREE Career Changer Guide - Download NOW: https://www.workitdaily.com/career-changer-guide/ Worried about getting hired during a career change? If you do these three things, changing careers won't be that hard. Career expert J.T. O'Donnell reveals three secrets to getting hired when you're changing careers in this video. Changing careers can be incredibly intimidating, no matter your age. However, the longer you’re in a career path, the harder it can seem to break free of it in pursuit of another role. For some of you, it might even seem IMPOSSIBLE to jump into a new field. The good news is, people successfully make career changes every day. And, with the right guidance, you can, too. 1. Showcase your transferable skills. You might be thinking, “Why would anyone hire ME when I have no experience in this field?” But you probably have more skills than you think! When you’re changing careers, taking advantage of your transferable skills is absolutely essential to your success. Transferable skills are skill sets that apply to a wide variety of jobs. For example, project management, budgeting, and customer service are all transferable skills because you can use them in many different types of roles. If you can prove that your skills can transfer to this job, you have the opportunity to get your foot in the door… even if you’ve never worked in that type of role before. So, make sure you emphasize these skills in your resume and cover letter, and during your interviews. 2. Identify where you need to upskill. When you change careers, you’ll need to upskill in some areas. After you’ve taken inventory of your transferable skills, figure out what you’re missing in terms of experience. Ask yourself, “What’s missing?” Then, find a way to gain those skills. You can back to school, get certifications, attend industry training, and so on. There are so many resources out there that can help you acquire the skills you need to change careers. 3. Look to your network. Networking is always important when it comes to job searching, but it’s especially important when you’re changing careers. Remember, even though you have transferable skills that can help you land the role, you haven’t proven yourself in this new career path yet. As a result, you need people on your side to help you out. Your network can help you meet key players in your target field, advocate for you, and give you advice that will help you move forward in this new career path. __________________________________ If you’re having a hard time getting your job search started while changing career be sure to check out JT's free tutorial. STOP Using These 3 Words On Your LinkedIn Profile

04:04
J.T. O'Donnell Free Job Search Resource: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ The Best LinkedIn Tips for 2018: https://youtu.be/GpdrYXNaoyk Want someone to review your LinkedIn profile? Join Work It Daily's Premium Subscription and get unlimited resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile reviews! Learn more here: https://www.workitdaily.com/pricing/ Okay, so what three words do you absolutely NEED to avoid using on your LinkedIn profile? The answer is... “Actively seeking opportunities” This phrase, as well as variations of it, can completely ruin your chances of being found by recruiters, let alone getting a job interview. Here’s why… It hurts your keyword optimization. Recruiters look for talent on LinkedIn by searching for specific keywords that relate to the job they’re trying to fill. For example, if a recruiter was trying to fill a Digital Marketing Specialist role, he or she might look for keywords like “digital marketing,” “email marketing,” “blogging,” and so on. All of these keywords are relevant skill sets that a digital marketing specialist would have on their profile. So, when you’re saying “actively seeking opportunities” in your headline, you’re missing the opportunity to keyword optimize and you’re decreasing your chances of being found by recruiters. Waste of valuable real estate. Recruiters only spend a few seconds reviewing profiles of potential candidates, so you want to make sure you’re showcasing the best, more impactful information at the top of your profile. When you opt to use meaningless phrases like “looking for opportunities,” specifically your top fold, you’re wasting a valuable real estate on your profile. You’re choosing to use phrases like that instead of being intentional and strategic with what you add to your profile. Words like that add nothing to your profile because they don’t help you brand yourself for a specific job and they don’t help you increase your keyword density on your profile. It makes you look desperate. When you put phrases on your profile like “seeking new opportunities,” it can hurt your personal brand, and ultimately, your chances of landing a job interview. This phrase makes you look desperate for a job, and employers aren’t necessarily going to want to bring you in if you’re essentially begging for employment. Why? It’s a risk. If you’ll do anything to get a job right now, even if it’s not the right fit for you, you might leave that company within a few months when you find a better opportunity. It costs employers a lot of time and money when employees leave, so it’s a big risk. So, if you do one thing today, REMOVE that phrase from your profile! It won’t help you get a new job. _______________________________________ Free Tutorial: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ If you want J.T. How To Talk About Salary Without Being Awkward

04:02
Work It Daily's Free Job Search Resource: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ Maybe you got a job offer (yay!) but the salary wasn't what you were expecting. What do you do? Salary negotiations can be TOUGH, but they don't have to be awkward! If you're not sure how to ask for the salary you deserve, use these salary negotiation tips from career expert Ariella Coombs. People have this preconceived notion that talking about money is always going to be awkward. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be. The key is being prepared. Not being prepared is usually what makes this an awkward conversation for people. So, let me walk you through some tips to help you avoid an awkward conversation about salary. #1- Always be prepared. You never know when an employer will bring up the salary question - it could be in the job application or it could be during your final interview. That’s why you want to be prepared for it. Know your numbers BEFORE you apply for the position so you’re not caught off guard. #2 - Don’t bring it up during the first interview. Bring up salary too soon is a common mistake people make during the hiring process. This can hurt your chances of getting the job offer because the employer might think you’re only in it for the money. Wait until the employers bring it up, or until a little later in the hiring process when things are getting more serious. #3 - Know what’s competitive. These are where doing your homework comes into play. Knowing the competitive salary rate for the role you’re applying to is going to help you negotiate for a fair offer down the line. If you don’t have an idea of what’s competitive, you risk asking for too much or too little. So, use websites like Glassdoor.com, Payscale.com, or Salary.com to research competitive salary rates for similar positions. #4 - Know your “walk away” rate After you do your research, you’ll have an idea of the highest and lowest salaries for similar roles in your field. This is an important thing to know because it will allow you to have a range to work with during negotiations. When working out your range, it’s important to know your “walk away” rate. Basically, this is the absolute lowest offer you can accept financially. In most cases, you don’t want to take an offer that’s not going to pay you enough to live comfortably. Otherwise, you’ll probably find yourself back on the job search within six months looking for a higher paying job because you can’t pay your bills. You don’t want to price yourself out of the job or sell yourself short, so it’s REALLY important to understand your walk away rate. #5 - Don’t limit yourself to money. While you should aim to get a competitive salary, don’t focus only on the money. You can negotiate for other things too, like work-from-home opportunities, flex-time, vacation days, and other perks. It depends on what’s most important to you. This will give you some wiggle room during negotiations. #6 - Give them a reason to give you more. In order to get the salary you want, you need to prove that you’ll be a valuable asset to the company and that your skill sets and experience make you the best fit for the role. You need to show them that you’re worth the investment. So, make a case for why you deserve the money you’re asking for and why you’ll be a valuable asset to the company. #7 - Don’t be afraid of “no” During salary negotiations, it’s okay to say “no” to a job offer if it’s not in line with what you feel is appropriate based on your research and needs. Remember saying no opens up negotiations. #8 - Relax! Yes, salary negotiations can be stressful. However, it’s a big part of the hiring process. Don’t forgo the negotiations because you’re afraid. Do your research and go in prepared to get what you deserve. If you’re still nervous, find a friend to practice with. The more your practice, the more comfortable you’ll be when it comes time for the real thing. _____________________ If you’re having a hard time even getting interviews, check out our free resource that could help address some issues that could be holding you back. https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ And, if you want J.T. and her team to help you become a pro at interviewing, negotiating and more, then you need to check out our Premium Subscription: https://www.workitdaily.com/pricing/ Follow Work It Daily: https://www.workitdaily.com/ https://twitter.com/workitdaily?lang=en https://www.facebook.com/groups/WorkItDaily https://www.facebook.com/WorkItDaily/ #Interview #InterviewTips #JobSearch

Best LinkedIn Tips For 2018

03:46
Free Tutorial: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ LinkedIn is a crucial tool for today's professional. Knowing how to properly market yourself on LinkedIn and attract the attention of recruiters is a skill that all professionals should have in 2018. Today, I’m going to share my best LinkedIn tips for 2018 so you can get the most out of your online network... 1. Let recruiters know you’re open. There’s a new setting on LinkedIn that increases your chances of being found by recruiters. Make sure this setting is ON. Even if you’re not actively looking for a job, you can use this tool. If recruiters reach out with opportunities, you can refer people within your network. This is a great way to offer value to your connections 2. Find creative ways to stand out in the feed. These days, everyone is on social media, including LinkedIn. That means, there’s a TON of noise on all of those channels. As a result, it’s hard to stand out. Try something new: share graphics/photos in your LinkedIn feed that reinforce who you are as a professional. Use these images as branding tools to showcase your expertise, character, and professional beliefs. You can create simple graphics using free tools like Canva (www.canva.com) For example, you could create an image that showcases one of your favorite leadership quotes. These images will stand out in the feed and get you noticed by your network 3. Create a content calendar. Once you have your graphics, you need to figure out when and why you should share them in your LinkedIn feed. Create a personal branding content calendar so you can keep yourself accountable for your branding efforts on LinkedIn. With so much noise on LinkedIn, consistency and repetition is key. Whether you’re posting once per day or once per week, make sure you have a schedule to keep you on top of it. _____________________________ Want to hear all 8 mistakes you're making when applying to jobs online? Free Job Search Resource: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ Get hired faster by working with our team of experts. Learn more here: https://www.workitdaily.com/pricing/ Showcasing the right skill sets is essential when you’re on the hunt for a job. If you want to stand out in the hiring process, you need to consider other skills that can give you an advantage over the competition. Here are some skill sets that can give you a “leg up” in the hiring process (even if they don’t directly relate to the job to which you’re applying): 1. Experience With Relevant Technologies Do you have experience with any programs, applications, software, or other technologies that relate to your field? Be sure to emphasize them on your resume and LinkedIn profile, especially if they’re listed in the job description. 2. Fluency In A Foreign Languages If you speak another language, make sure you showcase it! Although most jobs don’t require fluency in other languages, it’s not a bad thing to add to your resume or LinkedIn profile. In fact, it can actually give you bonus points because there are so many people who aren’t fluent in other languages. 3. Customer Service Skills It doesn’t matter if you were a server at a restaurant, a customer service representative, or a retail associate, if you dealt with customers in the past, you likely developed some good customer service skills. The ability to work with people is such a valuable skill set. Even if you won’t be working directly with customers in the role to which you’re applying, these people skills you’ve developed can help you work with colleagues and navigate tricky situations in the workplace. These are just a few things you can do that can give you a leg up in the hiring process. However, there could be things you’re doing that are holding you back... To get insight into what these are and how to fix them, be sure to check out my free resource here: Thousands of other professionals have found this helpful, so be sure to check it out. How To Beat Personality Tests In Job Interviews

06:25
Feeling stuck in your job search? Not sure what's wrong? Check out Work It Daily's FREE tutorial on how to fix the things that could be holding you back in your job search: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ Employers judge job candidates in three key areas: personality, aptitude, and experience - in that order. As a result, some companies make candidates take personality tests during the hiring process to make sure they filter out candidates who might not be the best fit. If you’re intimidated by the thought of taking one of these personality tests, you’re not alone. But the best way to beat personality tests during the hiring process is to be prepared. And that’s what I’m here to help you with today! Let me start by explaining the types of tests employers could give you. 3 Basic Test Types: - Cognition and ability - Simulations and skills - Personality and other indicators Now, let’s get into why companies use these types of tests. Companies use them to… - Weed out ill-fitting applicants - Be objective - Overcome lying - Replace references - Reduce turnover Let’s practice really quickly. If you were given the following options, which would YOU choose? - I enjoy the thrill of meeting new people. - I like to be alone most of the time. - It’s hard for me to make conversation with people I don’t know. - I like being to center of attention. This is an example of a behavioral question. You need to think about the position you’re applying for and choose the answer that makes the most sense for the role. For example, if the position you’re applying for deals with cold calling and a lot of client interaction, then the employer will be looking for people who chose the answer “I enjoy the thrill of meeting new people.” While you want to be honest in these tests, you also need to keep in mind what answers they would be looking for a specific role. This leads me into ways you can prepare for these interviews. Tips for Success: - Do your homework - Be honest - Don’t be extreme - Ask questions: What is the test measuring? Is it going on file? Can I get the results? If you need more ideas for questions to asking during your interview, check out our video the 8 Smart Interview Questions To Ask Hiring Managers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y95eI-ek_E8 If you’re having a hard time even getting interviews, I’ve got a free resource that could help address some issues that could be holding you back. 6 Signs A Job Posting Is Fake

04:55
J.T. O'Donnell Free Job Search Resource: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ How to Apply For A Job Online (And Actually Get An Interview): https://youtu.be/W-2f5UKQdJ0 Can’t tell whether or not a job posting is fake? I’m glad you’re here to get clarification. Unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers out there who try to take advantage of vulnerable job seekers. If you suspect you’re going after a job that’s not real, you’re probably right. Why Do Fake Job Postings Exist? Here are a few reasons why companies and other hiring agents post fake jobs. Fake job postings exist so... - Employers can gauge the current talent pool - Companies can get a backup for your position & keep resumes on file - It’s easier for unfair hiring practices to occur - People can add you to a spammy email lists - Criminals can swipe your identity or use your information Fake Ads By Staffing Agencies There’s a strong likelihood that it was bait to sign you up with their agency, because this is how many, many staffing agencies work. They post boilerplate ads for jobs that don’t really exist (although they’d probably tell you that they have many jobs similar to it that they fill all the time) in order to build a database of candidates who they can call on in the future. Signs Of A Fake Job Posting Here are a few signs of a fake job posting that you should watch out for during your job search: No company information Grammatical errors & spelling mistakes Contact can’t be found in a Google search Money is involved immediately Personal information required immediately Sounds too good to be true While not every job posting that has these things is fake, it’s important to be extra careful when you notice any of these things within a job posting. So, be sure to do your due diligence and proceed with caution when you encounter any of these things during your job search. Usually, if it doesn’t feel right or seems fishy, it’s best to stay away from it. If you’re having trouble getting hired, check out our free resource here: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ It walks you through the ways that you could be getting shut out of the hiring process and how to fix them. What To Do When You're Asked An Illegal Interview Question

05:21
J.T. O'Donnell Free Job Search Resource: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ 6 Types Of Illegal Interview Questions To Watch Out For: https://youtu.be/sMMPdkYCs74 Illegal interview questions pop up all the time during interviews, and responding the wrong way can cost you the job. If you’re asked these questions, it’s best to be prepared so you don’t get flustered during the interview. Here’s the reality... You’re going to have to make a tough decision if you get asked an illegal interview question, which is A) not answer it and call the interviewer out, or B) answer it even though it’s not appropriate. If you’re asked an interview question that’s blatantly illegal, you can always say something like, “You know, I’m not comfortable answering that question because it’s technically an illegal interview question. Can we move on from that and go on to the next question?” However, this approach will pretty much guarantee that you won’t get the job, so be careful. Unless you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, it’s usually best to avoid this approach. If you suspect that the interviewer simply doesn’t know any better or would like to give him or her the benefit of the doubt, you can do the following instead: Ask it’s relevant to the job. If you’re asked an illegal interview question, you can subtly stand your ground by asking why it’s relevant to the job. You can say something like, “I’d be happy to answer your question, but I’m not sure how it relates to the job. Would you care to explain so I can answer it as best as possible?” That way, your interviewer has the opportunity to explain his or her reasoning behind the question or move away from it if he or she realizes that it’s illegal. Keep your it short and sweet. If you’re asked an illegal interview question, keep your response short and to the point. Avoid giving away too many details, if possible. The more details you provide, the higher chance they will be used against you. Read between the lines. If an interviewer is asking questions about your personal and family life like, “Do you have any children?” it could be that your interviewer is just inexperienced and trying to make small talk. However, it could also be that the interviewer is trying to judge your priorities and commitment to your work. If he or she is worried that you’ll have to have a special schedule that allows you to pick up the kids from school or juggle other personal responsibilities, questions like this might pop up. If you’re asked something like this, read between the lines and figure out what the interviewer is really trying to find out. If you sense he or she is concerned about your commitment to the job, frame your response accordingly. For example, you could say something like, “Yes, I do have two children. However, I can assure you that my obligations outside of work will not interfere with my commitment to the job.” Dealing with illegal interview questions is never easy. However, it’s best to be prepared so you can handle the situation with a level head. _______________________________________ Free Tutorial: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ If you want J.T. How To Start A Conversation With A New LinkedIn Connection

02:55
Feeling stuck in your job search? Not sure what's wrong? Check out Work It Daily's FREE tutorial on how to fix the things that could be holding you back in your job search: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ Here are some tips for starting a conversation with a new LinkedIn connection. Tip #1 - Introduce Yourself. No need to overthink this part. Simply introduce yourself and then elaborate on why you wanted to connect in the first place. Also, if you’ve met this person in the past, whether it was at an event or through a mutual friend, be sure to mention it to help refresh his or her memory. Tip #2 - Mention Things You Have In Common A great way to get to know someone is to ask questions to see if you have anything in common. This makes continuing the conversation even easier. You could ask them things like: - What do you want to accomplish in your career? - What are your favorite projects at work? - What are your hobbies outside of work? Highlight your commonalities. This helps to build a stronger connection. Tip #3 - Offer Your Support I can’t stress enough how important is it to offer value to your connections, especially in your first conversation. It shows that you’re a valuable contact who’s ready and willing to help your connections. Offering your support can be as simple as saying something like: - If there’s anything I can do to offer support or anyone in my network that I can introduce you to, please let me know. Happy to help. No need to go overboard. This is only your first message. A brief sentence like this example will show them you’re willing to help. Tip #4 - Don’t Ask For Any Favors Just Yet There are tons of people don’t think about this when they’re networking. However, if you just met someone and he or she immediately asked for a favor from you, wouldn’t it be a turn-off? That’s why you shouldn’t ask for anything in your first message to someone. You need to build this relationship first. The exception would if they can benefit from the favor as well. An example of this could be if you’re asking for a quote from someone for an article that you’re writing. You benefit from getting content for your article, and that person will benefit from some free promotion. It’s a win-win. Unless it’s mutually beneficial, wait until you’ve established a solid, trustworthy relationship before asking for any favors. Keep these tips in mind whenever you reach out to people on LinkedIn. It will ensure that you make a great first impression and put yourself on track to building a network of strong connections. __________________________________ Click this link and get access to J.T. How To Recover After NOT Getting The Job

02:11
Feeling stuck in your job search? Not sure what's wrong? Check out Work It Daily's FREE tutorial on how to fix the things that could be holding you back in your job search: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ It can be a hard thing to recover after not getting the job, especially after all of that time and effort you put into your research, application, interview, and follow up. The good news is that, even if you didn’t get the job, you can still come out on top. Instead of getting falling victim to your frustration, you can turn this situation into a positive. But how? Here are a few tips for recovering from not getting the job: 1. Step back. “Take a deep breath,” says J.T. O’Donnell, founder and CEO of WorkItDaily.com. “They didn’t say, ‘No, not ever.’ This wasn’t a personal attack on you. They just said, ‘No, not today.’' You need to realize that a lot of talented people applied for that job, and the fact that you made it to the very end is awesome. Just because you weren’t considered the “perfect” match, doesn’t mean you weren’t a great match. Take a step back and put some perspective on the situation. 2. Step up. “You need to step up now and show your character, your authenticity – prove that you mean what you said,” says O’Donnell. Send a note thanking them for letting you know you weren’t selected and let them know you’re happy they found a great candidate. Even though this might be hard for you to do, it’s very important that you take that responsibility, according to O’Donnell. Also let them know you’re still interested in working for the firm in the future and touch base with them every now and then. Make it clear that you’ll be proactive in your efforts to work there, even after getting rejected this time. It’s going to show them that you really are the professional you said you were during the hiring process. 3. Do not let your pride get in the way. “It’s really easy to say, ‘Forget them! They had their shot!’” says O’Donnell. “But you know what? You know you want to work there, it’s just that your feelings are hurt.” Don’t let the pride get in the way. You need to push it aside and be the bigger person. Focus on the future – what if another job opens up there? If you really were one of the top choices, they may just call you and skip the hiring process altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice? #WorkItDaily #JobSearch __________________________________ Click this link and get access to J.T. #1 Thing Recruiters HATE Seeing In Video Interviews

If you’re having a hard time even getting interviews, check out our free resource that could help address some issues that could be holding you back. https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ Lindsay's video on how to prepare for video interviews: https://youtu.be/aevCwBCYWtY Want help with your interview prep, resume, cover letter and more? Check out our Premium Subscription today: https://www.workitdaily.com/pricing/ In this video, career expert J.T. O'Donnell shares the #1 thing that recruiters HATE seeing during video interviews. If you have a video interview coming up, you DEFINITELY want to watch this one... Okay, so what is it that recruiters HATE seeing more than anything during video interviews? DISTRACTIONS. That means, pets climbing across the keyboard, people walking behind you, or a messy room. Basically anything that can take the focus off of you and your professionalism. This might seem like common sense but, unfortunately, it happens all of the time. And, it can completely ruin your chances of moving forward in the hiring process. So, be sure to learn from this mistake and eliminate anything that could draw the interviewer's attention away from you. That means, removing pictures or knick knacks in the background, keeping your pets in a different room, and making sure the door is locked so no one comes in to bother you. ____________________________ If you’re having a hard time even getting interviews, check out our free resource that could help address some issues that could be holding you back. https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ And, if you want J.T. and her team to help you become a pro at interviewing, negotiating and more, then you need to check out our Premium Subscription: https://courses.workitdaily.com/p/subscription/ Follow Work It Daily: https://www.workitdaily.com/ https://twitter.com/workitdaily?lang=en https://www.facebook.com/groups/WorkItDaily https://www.facebook.com/WorkItDaily/ #Interview #InterviewTips #JobSearch

5 Tips for A Clean LinkedIn Profile That Gets Noticed

02:23
https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ 1. Remove empty terms. Remove any subjective terminology such as "motivated, "dedicated," "results-driven," "self-starter," "high-level thinker," "quick learner," and so on. While you may have all of these traits, describing yourself in these terms means nothing to employers without proof. Anyone can say that they are a highly motivated self-starter, but how do you know it’s true? Remove empty terms like this from your resume and LinkedIn profile. Instead, just stick with quantifiable accomplishments that prove you’re qualified through results (you’ll learn more about these in a little bit). 2. Add new technologies to your LinkedIn Summary. What new software or technologies have you learned lately that relate to your industry? Update your LinkedIn profile with any new, relevant technologies. What software are you proficient in? Whether it’s Wordpress or Excel, updating your profile with relevant technologies you use in your field allows you to further optimize your profile and fully take advantage of your Summary section. 3. Reorganize your Top Skills. In your Top Skills section (where all of your endorsements can be found), you want to showcase the 10 hard skill sets you want to leverage in your next job. This makes is easy for employers and recruiters to see what you excel at on the job - and you want to make it as easy as possible for them to see your value! So, take a few minutes to reorganize your Top Skills to showcase your top 10 at the top. While in Edit mode, you can reorganize how your skills appear by dragging and dropping them. 4. Ditch those dense paragraphs. Let’s go back to making it easy for recruiters and employers to see your value for a second. When you make them sift through big, dense paragraphs in your Work History to find the information they need, you’re making it HARDER for them, not easier! Remember, white space is your friend. Swap out those murky paragraphs for clear, concise bullet points of your quantifiable accomplishments instead. 5. Add numbers wherever possible. Your goal is to demonstrate your value to employers. They want to know that you’ve been there, done that, and can do it well. The best way to do that is to quantify your accomplishments. Always ask, how many, how much, how long, and how often? Remember my simple formula: numbers = results = value. ---------------------------------------------- Want to hear all 8 ways you are being shut out of the hiring process? 4 Tips For Choosing The Right Career

09:54
Take our persona quiz here: https://www.workitdaily.com/quiz/ Check out our FREE downloadable Career Change Guide: https://www.workitdaily.com/career-changer-guide/ Check out JT's FREE job search tutorial: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ Whether you’re starting out your career journey or are sick of your industry and looking to make a change, it can be hard picking the right career path. It’s a stressful decision and sometimes the fear of picking the wrong one paralyzes people into complete inaction. I want to give you these 4 tips to help you decide what career is the right one for you so you’re confident in your choice. #1: Job, Career or Calling? Your life story involves your work. BUT, it’s up to you to decide if it should play a supporting role, the lead role, or even be the ENTIRE storyline. Today, you need to choose what kind of work you want to pursue. Is it a job,a career, or calling? Using the questions below, contemplate what matters to you and make a decision about which is best for you at this time in your life. 1. When you think about work in the larger scale of your life, do you see it as: - A means of making money to pursue your dreams? - Something that stimulates you on a daily basis? - The thing that defines you and the impact you want to have on the world? 2. What is your personal definition of happiness at work? 3. What will you measure to validate you are on track in your pursuit of work that makes you happy? In other words, how will you know you are doing the right thing for you? 4. Name 5 people who you admire for the work they do. Why do you admire each one? For each of the people listed above, determine if they have a job, a career, or a calling. #2: Get Rid of Your Jealousy When we feel jealous of other people’s careers, it’s actually a sign we are insecure about our own career decisions. Learning to recognize the jealousy is important. We must be able to feel happy and excited for those who are succeeding around us. Only then can we feel truly happy with our own career choices. Using the questions below, identify where you jealousy comes from and what you can do to eliminate it going forward. 1. Identify 3 people you feel jealousy towards because of their work success. 2. Write out what angers you about their success. 3. Ask yourself, “What am I afraid of?” Now, come up with statements that reframe your fear into an opportunity. #3: Identifying Possible Career Directions Feeling happiness at work comes when we are focused on solving a problem we care about and using our strengths to solve it. Use the questions below to identify a list of problems you are passionate about and the skills you could use to support the solving of these problems. 1. Create a list of all the problems in the world that matter to you. Big or small, what things would you like to see improved? #4: Use Personas To Narrow Down Your Career Direction Take our free quiz to find out what your top 3 personas are: https://www.workitdaily.com/quiz/ Your personas are your work styles and strengths in the workplace. Once you know these they can help you to narrow down what job opportunities are a good or not so good fit for you. How take your list of problems you want to solve and see how you can do that using your personas. _____________________________ Want to hear all 8 mistakes you're making when applying to jobs online? #1 Worst Face-To-Face Networking Mistake

05:44
Feeling stuck in your job search? Not sure what's wrong? Check out J.T.'s FREE tutorial on how to fix the things that could be holding you back in your job search: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ Face-to-face networking is incredibly effective... if you do it well. But if you're making this networking mistake, you're going to destroy your chances of landing a great opportunity. In this tutorial, career expert J.T. O'Donnell shares this CRINGEWORTHY true story of what NOT to do at networking events... --- Today, I wanted to talk about the worst face-to-face networking mistake you can make. I actually witnessed this at a large, professional networking event I attended. There was this man working his way around the room, forcing his way into conversations and interrupting people. He looked uncomfortable doing it, but he continued anyway. I could see that his hands were shaking as he was trying to make small talk. But without even hearing what he was saying, I could tell those interactions were awkward and not going well. He eventually makes his way over to the group I’m networking with and forces his way in. He tells us his name, hands out his business card to every single person, tells us his branding statement, then ends by letting us know he’s looking for work and if we knew of any positions that would suit him, he’d be grateful for the information. This is a classic example of a job seeker who takes what he or she has read online, scripts it out, and goes through the process like a robot. You never want to do this with face-to-face networking. It’s not an exact science. There’s a bit of an art to it, but it’s not complex. It’s about being human, humble, and personable. Most importantly, it’s about listening to others. Let them do the talking. Connect with them. Absorb what they’re saying. This is how you start to build trust with someone. If they trust you, they will be more willing to help you. None of this will ever happen if you’re following a regimented process when it comes to networking. There should be a flow and natural rhythm to it. It’s bad to avoid networking, even if you’re not a confident networker. However, it’s just as bad to approach networking in such a forced way. So, don’t fall into this trap of feeling like you need to follow a checklist next time you’re networking. While you should have some basic questions in mind, make a point to let the conversation flow naturally, and remember to be a good listener. 4 Underlying Issues That Are SABOTAGING Your Job Search

02:58
Free Tutorial: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ One thing I'm seeing a lot of lately is that people are focusing too much on one area of their job searches. Whether it’s crafting the perfect cover letter or connecting with as many people on LinkedIn as possible, fixating on one part of your job strategy can actually hold you back from getting a job. If this sounds like you, there might be a bigger problem at play here. Procrastinating or obsessing over one aspect of your job search can be a symptom of the following underlying issues: 1. Lack of confidence. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will. It’s impossible to market yourself effectively if you’re not 100% confident in your abilities. Moreover, if you lack confidence in yourself, you’ll make your job search ten times harder and a zillion times more frustrating. In order to succeed, you’ve got to have confidence in yourself. Without that confidence, it’s easy to get crushed by negativity, criticism, and rejection (which we’ll talk about in a second). 2. Fear of rejection. Have you ever seen a job that would be PERFECT for you, but didn’t apply because you didn’t think you had a shot? You might not realize it, but you’re probably letting your fear of rejection drive the bus. How many jobs are you going to pass up because you “don’t think you have a shot”? Look, you’re going to get rejected. That’s part of job search. In order to land a great job, you need to put yourself out there. 3. Lack of enthusiasm. If you’re not excited about the opportunities you’re “trying” to land, you’re probably unconsciously sabotaging your job search. Landing a new job isn’t easy, and if you’re not 100% sold on the idea, you’re not going to put forth your best effort. Instead of wasting your time on opportunities you’re not enthusiastic about, create an interview bucket list of your favorite companies and build a job search strategy around them. When you’re excited about something, you’re more inclined to follow through with it (and give it your best shot). 4. Lack of direction. If you find yourself applying to jobs across the board, one completely different from the next, your job search is going to be scattered and unfocused. Before jumping into your job search, it’s important to clearly understand what direction you want to go in, what’s important to you in your next job, and what skills you want to leverage in your next role. If you find yourself obsessing over one part of your job search, it could mean you’re dealing with one or all of these underlying issues. Don’t let them silently sabotage your job search! Acknowledge them, overcome them, and go get the job you WANT! #WorkItDaily #JobSearch --------------------------------------- Want to hear all 8 mistakes you're making when applying to jobs online? How To Overcome Age Discrimination In Your Job Search

07:28
J.T. O'Donnell Free Job Search Resource: https://www.workitdaily.com/why-shut-out-hiring-process-youtube/ #1 Reason You're Not Getting Called For Job Interviews: https://youtu.be/VYSSLskvhUU Do you think you’re facing age discrimination or ageism in your job search? Do you feel like no one is hiring you because you’re older than the competition? You’re not alone with these feelings. However, there’s some important things you need to know if you want to overcome this challenge... Okay, so first, I want to tackle a HUGE misconception about age discrimination in the workforce. The truth is, it’s not age discrimination that’s holding you back. It’s experience discrimination. It’s a true case of supply and demand that’s happening right now. There are 77 million Baby Boomers in the workforce. These are people who are in their late 50s and 60s who are still active in their careers. But here’s the thing, Millennials make up half of the workforce right now, and the oldest Millennials are in their 30s, which means they have skills and experience under their belts. They’re no longer newbies. What that means is that employers know they’re the future. And, they know that they can hire two Millennials for the price of one seasoned professional, in most cases. That’s just the reality. As a result, you’ll find that Baby Boomers will have a much harder time finding a job because they’re up against this experience discrimination. As a seasoned professional, you probably have a lot of experience and your salary is probably higher. And, most people probably don’t want to take a step down in terms of pay. Sure, you can say, “Oh, it’s okay if I don’t get paid as much as I did in my last role. I just want to get my foot in the door and work my way up.” The truth is, there isn’t a single person out there who wants to make less money than they did before. And every recruiter knows that. They know that even if you take that job, you’re probably not going to be as happy as you were in your last job. And even if you are, you’ll probably leave them when a better paying job comes along. That’s their perception. So, you’re up against the law of supply and demand, not ageism. Now, let me just tell you that you can get mad at the Millennials, but they’re in trouble, too. Here’s why… We’re a global economy. Globalization is happening at a rapid rate. I work with companies every single day on their recruiting. They’re all realizing that they can go to countries all over the world to find talent for their companies. And get three of them for the price of one here in the U.S. So, as the geographic and economic boundaries drop, as we become more and more of a contract workforce, you’re going to see a lot of this work go to other people in other countries. In the U.S., employees technically get paid in the 1% compared to the other employees in the rest of the world. So, this is going to hit EVERYONE. Experience discrimination and pricing discrimination are going to impact everybody. And, we don’t even realize it’s happening yet. It’s just starting with the Baby Boomers. But it’s going to happen to everyone. So, how do you combat this change? Here are a few things you MUST do… Think of yourself as a “business-of-one.” In order to navigate these changing times, you need to be a business-of-one and build a strategy. It’s a lot more than just looking for work. If you’re just looking for a job, and you want job security, then you’re in for a rude awakening. There’s no such thing as job security. We live in a world where every job is temporary. Any day, things can change. That’s our new reality. As a business-of-one, you need to work on the following activities for your career, similar to how a business owner has to work on his or her business in order to stay competitive. You need to... - Build your brand - Follow a smart career strategy - Work ON your career as much as you work IN it All of these habits will help you insulate yourself from these unexpected shifts in the marketplace These are all skills that you can learn, no matter what your age. If you want a great career, if you want to be able to continue in the workforce, you MUST to learn how to do these things.
