I have had a few requests asking how I set up my Sluice. They say a picture says a thousand words, so here is an example of how I put together a simple Self-Reticulating Sluicing plant - in short, a very effective Wet Plant.
Although there is no dialogue in this video, there is enough footage to get the general idea.
Without a doubt, the most critical part of this set up is getting the right combination of water quantity, flow and speed as well as the angle of the Box. You should take the time to get this right...throw some test dirt in first and watch the flow. Once you are satisfied that all is good, then you can start putting your precious Pay Dirt through.
You will notice that I had a container submerged in the bath at the drop-off; this serves as a trap for any gold that might escape the sluice.... you can put it through again if you suspect some has.
The wash basin and sieve are used once all the dirt has been put through. You will notice an OVERHANG where the plug end of the bath sits.... place the washbasin under the outlet, and once you have thoroughly cleaned out the sluice IN THE BATH, remove the plug and catch the fines. It is very important that you sit the sieve in the top of the washbasin so as to prevent splash-back.... you should also take extra care to retard the speed at which the water runs out of the bath…..just cover the outlet with your hand so you can control the flow.
Finally, ensure that you thoroughly hose out the bath to get every last bit of Gold.
Now comes the fun bit... panning off the fines….or you can use a Gold Wheel or concentrator.
