Why are GMOs bad? They aren’t. They just aren’t, not intrinsically, and certainly not for your health. We’ve been eating them for decades with no ill effects, which makes sense, because a genetically modified organism is simply an organism, like every other organism, produces hundreds of thousands of proteins, but one or two of them are proteins that were chosen specifically by humans. Set your gene guns to stun as we explore the curious landscape of GMO regulations in the U.S. ↓↓Full description and references below↓↓ Critics say the Obama Administration balked on an opportunity to update Reagan-era guidelines on how agencies like the Department of Agriculture regulate foods with edited genes. GMOs and Roundup: 'GMOs Cause Tumors in Rats' Scientist Wins Defamation Lawsuit In November 2012, the Journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology published a paper titled Long Term Toxicity of Roundup Herbicide and a Roundup-Tolerant genetically modified maize by Gilles-Eric Seralini and his team of researchers at France’s Caen University. It was a very significant study that made a lot of noise worldwide, the first of its kind under controlled conditions that examined the possible effects of a GMO maize diet treated with Monsanto’s Roundup Herbicide. After the research was completed, it went through rigorous reviews, as well as a four month review process by scientists and researchers. It was eventually approved and published, only to be retracted by request of the Journal. Although hundreds of scientists around the world condemned the retraction, and the researchers addressed the criticisms, it was to no avail. This major GMO study has now been republished following its controversial retraction (under strong commercial pressure), with even more up to date information and a response to previous criticisms. “We also show that the decision to retract cannot be rationalized on any discernible scientific or ethical grounds. Censorship of research into health risks undermines the value and the credibility of science, thus, we republish our paper.” – Seralini As always, use this info to gather more info. For more information, log on to- http://shomusbiology.weebly.com/ Download the study materials here- http://shomusbiology.weebly.com/bio-materials.html enetically modified foods (GM foods, or biotech foods) are foods produced from organisms that have had specific changes introduced into their DNA using the methods of genetic engineering. These techniques have allowed for the introduction of new crop traits as well as a far greater control over a food's genetic structure than previously afforded by methods such as selective breeding and mutation breeding. Commercial sale of genetically modified foods began in 1994, when Calgene first marketed its Flavr Savr delayed ripening tomato. To date most genetic modification of foods have primarily focused on cash crops in high demand by farmers such as soybean, corn, canola, and cotton seed oil. These may have been engineered for faster growth, resistance to pathogens, production of extra nutrients, or any other beneficial purpose. GM livestock have also been experimentally developed, although as of September 2013 none are currently on the market. There is broad scientific consensus that food on the market derived from GM crops poses no greater risk to human health than conventional food. However, critics have objected to GM foods on several grounds, including safety issues, ecological concerns, and economic concerns raised by the fact that GM plants (and potentially animals) that are food sources are subject to intellectual property law. GMO, Roundup & Wheat: Get the Facts | John Douillard's LifeSpa Read the associated article: http://lifespa.com/gmo-roundup-wheat-get-facts/ Sign up for our free weekly video newsletter: http://lifespa.com/newsletter-signup Like us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/dr.douillard Follow @JohnDouillard on Twitter Learn more about Ayurveda: http://lifespa.com/about-lifespa/ayurveda/what-is-ayurveda/ While wheat is not an approved GMO food anywhere in the world, Monsanto conducted experiments from 1998 to 2000 using GMO wheat in the Pacific Northwest. This variety of genetically-modified wheat, called MON 71700, was designed to be resistant to the herbicide, glyphosate, commonly known as Roundup. In years since, GMO wheat has been popping up in wheat fields in Washington State, as the pollen from wheat is quite difficult to control. Recently, 22 unapproved genetically modified (GMO) wheat plants were discovered by a Washington state farmer. This was third time Monsanto’s experimental GMO wheat was found in farm fields in the past three years. The first GMO wheat plants were found in Oregon in 2013, and this prompted Japan and Korea to temporarily ban the import of any wheat from the US. The USDA is testing wheat fields, as are farmers, to prevent the spread of these rogue GMO plants. Due to the small number of GMO wheat plants found, the USDA has stated that there is no threat of GMO wheat entering into our food supply. "This research shows an extraordinary number of tumors developing earlier and more aggressively - particularly in female animals. I am shocked by the extreme negative health impacts," said Dr Michael Antoniou, molecular biologist at King's College London, and a member of CRIIGEN, the independent scientific council which supported the research. Text: http://www.thegrocer.co.uk/topics/technology-and-supply-chain/monsanto-weedkiller-and-gm-maize-in-shocking-cancer-study/232603.article Video: http://www.thegrocer.co.uk/topics/technology-and-supply-chain/experts-discuss-the-findings-of-the-roundup/gm-cancer-trial/232605.article The peer-reviewed study, conducted by a team of researchers at the University of Caen, found that rats fed on a diet containing NK603 Roundup resistant GM maize, or given water containing Roundup at levels permitted in drinking water, over a two-year period, died significantly earlier than rats fed on a standard diet. Up to half the male rats and 70% of females died prematurely, compared with only 30% and 20% in the control group. Across both sexes the researchers found that rats fed Roundup in their water or NK603 developed two to three times more large tumours than the control group. By the beginning of the 24th month, 50-80% of females in all treated groups had developed large tumours, with up to three per animal. By contrast, only 30% of the control group were affected. Scientists reported the tumours "were deleterious to health due to [their] very large size," making it difficult for the rats to breathe, [and] causing problems with their digestion which resulted in haemorrhaging. The paper, published in the scientific journal Food and Chemical Toxicology today, concluded that NK603 and Roundup caused similar damage to the rats' health, whether they were consumed together or on their own. The team also found that even the lowest doses of Roundup, which fall well within authorised limits in drinking tap water, were associated with severe health problems.

Many people today hear the phrase “genetically modified” and it hits some kind of fear button inside of them. While it’s understandable to want to be informed about the process involved in anything we consume or use on a regular basis, there is a certain amount of misinformation that has caused some hysteria among a segment of people. There is also a lot of general confusion about what GMO’s are. While science has advanced with some new techniques and possibilities, many of the methods we are using today are not that far off from genetic modifications that farmers have been using for thousands of years. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 Find more lists at: http://www.toptenz.net Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from TopTenzNet! Top 10 strange gmo food and products that you use daily Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Description: The world of science has reached some incredible heights when it comes to technology. But science is much more than just robots and looking for the next biggest technological breakthrough. Science has also made major innovations when it comes to the food industry and the environment. Because the world has done some great damage to the environment around us, scientists have had to try to mend the damage by using genetic engineering. Whether resources are depleted or the natural course isn’t convenient for big business, scientists come in and fill in the gaps with genetically modified products. GMOs, also known as genetically modified organisms, are becoming a hot button topic in the food industry. The public is concerned about whether or not consuming GMOs might lead to bad health problems like cancer and allergies. Major corporations insist that there isn’t a problem, but local farmers say otherwise and are being put out of business. In this video are some of the strangest genetically modified products. We know that these products aren’t handcrafted by Mother Nature herself, and surely there are risks. All thanks to science, we are now consuming foods that defy the laws of nature. From square watermelons to bananas that have the vaccination for hepatitis B, these products are purely man-made. But time will only tell whether or not these genetically modified products are for the betterment of society or the downfall of it or it could actually save the world from starvation and disease. Only time will give us the answer. I point this out because "genetically modified" has become a loaded term that is misused to describe recombinant DNA biotechnology, one of the most important technological advances in the 10,000-year history of agriculture. Throw in bogus, Hollywood-inspired terms like Franken Foods, Killer Tomatoes, and Terminator Seeds, and you have the makings of one of the most groundless anti-science campaigns in the history of anti-science campaigns. We have been modifying the genetics of plants and animals since agriculture and the domestication of animals began. The anti-GMO activists counter, "Nature never moves DNA from one species to another; therefore GMOs are 'unnatural'." Not so. Genes have been moving across species' boundaries since life began. Bacteria routinely carry fragments of DNA from one species to another, and that DNA is sometimes incorporated into the genes of the host species. This random movement of genetic material has been one of the driving forces in the development of species. The human genome, for example, has 70 percent of its genes in common with the sea urchin. Why wouldn't we harness this naturally occurring phenomenon to improve the makeup of our food and fiber crops? Today 18 million farmers in 28 countries are growing genetically modified crops on 448 million acres, 12 percent of the world's farmland, or about the same area as all US cropland. It would be at least three times that if not for bans and restrictions in many countries -- bans and restrictions that are irrational, anti-science, and terribly harmful to the world's poor. Every credible science, health, and nutrition organization in the world says the genetically modified food available today is safe -- without reservation. This includes the World Health Organization, the European Commission, and the Society for Toxicology. How many people know, for example, that the Durum Wheat used to make most of our pasta had its DNA modified by exposing seeds to high-level gamma radiation? And there is no labeling required! But what about those supposedly evil seed companies like Monsanto? Aren't they trying to "control the world's food supply?" First, let's remember that these companies are not weapons manufacturers or drug cartels; they are trying to make better seeds for agriculture. Second, the seed companies don't decide which seeds to plant; farmers make that decision. The fact is these companies have done massive good. Millions of people have nutritious food to eat thanks to their innovative work, work that has also reduced the use of pesticides. Recently the first comprehensive study of genetically modified crop performance reported some surprising numbers. On average, GM crops increased yield by 22 percent, reduced pesticide use 37 percent, and increased farmer profits by 68 percent. What is the most important reason for buying an Organic product? What can you do to reduce your exposure to pesticides and herbicides like glyphosate? Is Monsanto's Roundup really that bad? What about GMOs? What does that NonGMO label mean? This video addresses all of these concerns. ••••••••••••••••••••• CONTROVERSIES: ••••••••••••••••••••• ► GMOs: Some GMOs have resulted in produce that was unpalatable and thus, never brought to market. Some genetically engineered organisms have actually benefited us by improving disease resistance. But the most common traits are the inclusion of bt and ht genes. Other GMO modifications can lengthen the shelf life of harvested crops. Mushrooms that take longer to go bad. Tomatoes that have a longer storage life. Apples that don't turn brown. Many of these GMO traits are designed to support the profits of retail chains and industrial agriculture practices. They may reduce some food waste and improve efficiency, keeping costs lower. But they also promote the widespread application of herbicides, while doing little or nothing to improve flavor or nutritional content of our food. (Don't get me started on Golden Rice.) ► GLYPHOSATE: Some countries have moved to ban it's usage, but proponents assert that excluding Roundup would mean the reliance on even MORE toxic alternatives. Trying to ban the product might not be very effective at triggering agricultural reform. But if consumers vote with their dollars for organic alternatives, then more farmers will be prompted to make the switch. ► ORGANICS: To discount organic agriculture as useless "marketing hype" is a gross overgeneralization. And promoting that view is irresponsible. People will cite copper fungicide as being super toxic, although being approved for organic gardening. However, they don't cite which crops are treated with copper and whether that element makes its way onto the harvested product. These are broad, poorly researched statements designed to appeal to the general public. Do your own research and stop listening to "gurus" who know very little or nothing about farming or even gardening! Each product we purchase should be assessed on a case by case basis. Conventionally grown strawberries are laden with pesticides. So grow your own! Spinach is also very contaminated, but not if your buy organic. Meanwhile, onions and broccoli are much cleaner and so conventional should be just fine. Regardless, eating more fruits, vegetables and whole grains should always be promoted. Don't ever avoid eating whole plant products out of fear of contamination. Compared to eating extra animal products, you will be much better off! Does the USDA Organic standard need an overhaul? Perhaps so. But that is no reason to throw it out the window and reject everything it stands for. Advocate for reform where needed. Promote those refinements that you believe in. Why not push for the labeling of pesticides on ALL of our foods? Until consumers are better informed about pesticide residues in their foods, choosing Organic produce can be a very sensible choice. And the same goes for home gardening!!! ••••••••••••••••••••• LINKS: ••••••••••••••••••••• ► GMOs https://www.who.int/foodsafety/areas_work/food-technology/faq-genetically-modified-food/en/ https://www.usda.gov/topics/biotechnology/biotechnology-frequently-asked-questions-faqs https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/adoption-of-genetically-engineered-crops-in-the-us/recent-trends-in-ge-adoption.aspx ► Roundup https://www.iarc.fr/en/media-centre/iarcnews/pdf/MonographVolume112.pdf https://www.iarc.fr/en/media-centre/iarcnews/2016/glyphosate_IARC2016.php https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/crnr/glyphosate-listed-effective-july-7-2017-known-state-california-cause-cancer ► Scientific Studies Glyphosate & the Gut Microbiome https://www.mdpi.com/1099-4300/15/4/1416 Soy Plants & Roundup Residues: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24491722 Elementary Student & Pesticides in Urine: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2290988/ Differential Effects of Glyphosate & Roundup: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15929894 Effects of Preparation on Pesticide Residue: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0956713506002696 Cancer Risk vs Benefits of Eating More Veggies: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22981907 Dioxins Intake from Foods https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11346131 ► EWG Resources https://www.ewg.org/news-and-analysis/2018/08/how-does-ewg-set-health-benchmark-glyphosate-exposure https://www.ewg.org/childrenshealth/glyphosateincereal/ https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/summary.php https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/full-list.php #GMO #organic #cancer #monsanto #nonGMO #Roundup #FoodReform #GoVegan ••••••••••••••••••••• SUPPORT: ••••••••••••••••••••• W E B ➝ https://albopepper.com F B ➝ https://www.facebook.com/albopepper I G ➝ https://www.instagram.com/albopepper T E E S ➝ https://shop.spreadshirt.com/albopepper/ •••••••••••••••••••••

Other TopTenz Videos: Top 10 Bizarre Foods They Most Likely Serve in Hell http://bit.ly/1MbC9XQ Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are a hot topic in the United States and around the world. Many nations in Europe refuse GMO products from the United States, and the trend is continuing throughout Africa as well. Many people are against GMOs, and many don’t understand what they are. Basically, a GMO is an organism that’s been modified in the lab to introduce the DNA from another organism. This is usually done to create a pesticide-resistant plant, or one that can fight off a common parasite. While GMO products have been around for a long time, many people aren’t aware of what exactly they might be consuming that has GMOs in them, hence the ongoing efforts to introduce mandatory labeling in the United States. What is GMO? What does GMO mean? GMO meaning - GMO pronunciation - GMO definition - GMO explanation - How to pronounce GMO? Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A genetically modified organism (GMO) is any organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques (i.e., a genetically engineered organism). GMOs are the source of medicines and genetically modified foods and are widely used in scientific research and to produce other goods. The term GMO is very close to the technical legal term, 'living modified organism', defined in the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, which regulates international trade in living GMOs (specifically, "any living organism that possesses a novel combination of genetic material obtained through the use of modern biotechnology"). A more specifically defined type of GMO is a "transgenic organism." This is an organism whose genetic makeup has been altered by the addition of genetic material from an unrelated organism. This should not be confused with the more general way in which "GMO" is used to classify genetically altered organisms, as typically GMOs are organisms whose genetic makeup has been altered without the addition of genetic material from an unrelated organism. The first genetically modified mouse was in 1973, and the first plant was produced in 1983.

This video, dating back to 2001, shows Iowa hog farmers describing how genetically modified corn was responsible for massive drops in fertility rates. With the amount of subsequent studies that have been done concerning the safety of GMO foods on animals; there's no longer any doubt that GMO foods can and do reduce fertility in the organisms that consume it, as well as create other health defects. Is it wrong to discuss the human implications? Humans have been manipulating crops for thousands of years through selective breeding. It is only in recent history where debates have sprung up in how we develop our crops due to us being able to Genetically Modify Organisms in a laboratory setting. GMO's are a hot debate right now, and with tons of misinformation out there I try and clear up exactly what it means to be a Genetically Modified Organism, how safe they are, and explain different methods on how we actually make GMO's. I also go into detail about the different methods we make and breed our crops via selective breeding and mutagenesis. Enjoy. Remember you can always re watch parts if it goes to fast and I also encourage you to do some research of your own. For a good starting point take a look at some of my sources!.. And form your own opinion! Don't jump on the GMO hate bandwagon just cause Stephanie told you they were bad or because you read a crappy article on facebook! If you are someone who tries to be health conscious about your diet and lifestyle then you should probably know just how harmful pesticides, growth accelerators, ripening agents, and other chemicals can be for you. Do you even know how common these chemicals are? In order to avoid all the chemicals, try to always buy organic produce. Do not, however, neglect to wash it, because bacteria still lives in organic produce just like any other kind. There are a few telltale signs that will let you know whether or not the food you’re buying is organic or chemically enhanced. Organic fruit and vegetables will never be uniform. They will be different shapes, sizes, and colors. Huge produce has most likely been grown using growth accelerators. Watermelons, for example, will have cracks on their sides from where they grew too quickly. If your produce tastes almost bland, chances are chemicals such as florchlorfenuron have been used to stimulate the growth and have ended up draining the flavor. Organic produce will also have a much stronger smell since they still contain all of their oils. And always wash, peel, and prepare your produce hygienically in order to benefit from all of their amazing properties! ---------------------------------------- For more information and references, check the article on our blog: https://www.naturalcures.me Disclaimer: The materials and the information contained on Natural Cures channel are provided for general and educational purposes only and do not constitute any legal, medical or other professional advice on any subject matter.
