Water Resources

11:38
005 - Water Resources In this video Paul Andersen explains how water is unequally distributed around the globe through the hydrologic cycles. Seawater is everywhere but is not useful without costly desalination. Freshwater is divided between surface water and groundwater but must me stored and moved for domestic, industrial, and agricultural uses. Subsidized low cost water has created a problem with water conservation but economic changes could help solve the problem. Do you speak another language? Stormwater BMPs: Data Resources and Screening Tool (#3)

02:27
Video 3: ITRC Stormwater BMP Performance Evaluation Technical Guidance – Introducing Chapter 2 – Data Resources and Intro to BMP Screening Tool Free guidance and training at Follow ITRC at https://www.itrcweb.org/ Watch the fourth video in this series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5PiNus_X5I Rewatch the first video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS3hlPZSSwE Rewatch the second video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZsYylEhvDU Do you need to evaluate your post-construction stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP) performance? The Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) Performance Evaluation Team shows you how to evaluate stormwater BMPs in this free brand new technical guidance document. This video introduces you to the team’s website where you’ll find its products including technical guidance, BMP Screening Tool and data references. The free products are aimed at State and Federal regulators, municipalities, stormwater engineers and stormwater stakeholders. The ITRC Stormwater BMP Performance Evaluation Team shows you how to use a BMP lifecycle approach to screen, compare, install, monitor and maintain BMPs using reliable existing free data, guidance and verified sources. The guidance is intended to connect you to the most current repositories of information from across the US so you can evaluate the performance of your BMP to your site-specific conditions. The purpose of the data applicability section is to educate users on the availability and quality of BMP performance data. Specifically, this section provides an overview of the major data repositories and BMP evaluation programs that were active at the time of publication for this guidance and utilized by the regulatory community in making BMP approval decisions. For completeness, the data applicability section also calls attention to programs that are no longer active, but may have produced data that remains viable. Particular emphasis is placed on the Washington State Department of Ecology’s TAPE program as well as the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s NJCAT laboratory protocols and certification process, as a result of their national recognition. A number of other known programs and repositories are also included along with insight on how to access and use them. This section also contains a general discussion of BMP performance data collection that explores data quality and quantity objectives, lab and field protocols, and sampling methodologies. The screening considerations section provides principles, information and a BMP Screening Tool to enable users with stormwater management responsibilities to make better decisions for optimal stormwater treatment. It is important when selecting a BMP that the land use, soil types and pollutant, pollutant loads, topography, climate, and available area are known or estimated. Based on this information, the BMP Screening Tool facilitates the consideration of the many stormwater BMPs with links to specific information, existing guidance and other resources. The BMP Screening Tool helps streamline the marriage of site pollutants and characteristics with applicable BMPs currently available. It provides details on what site data the user needs to help find applicable BMPs and then ultimately leads the user to potential BMPs that the can be considered for implementation at their facility. _________________________________________________________________ Animated by Matt Rice Music: "Perception" from Bensound.com

National Water Account 2013–14

03:11
In our variable climate, as our population increases and industries change, competition for Australia’s precious water resources intensifies. To ensure we have enough water for everyone, it is important to account for how water is managed across Australia. We need to know how much water is available, where it is, and how it’s being used. The Bureau of Meteorology’s National Water Account provides an annual picture of water availability. It plays a critical role in the planning and decision-making processes of governments and industry. This video summarises the key findings of the National Water Account 2014 from a national perspective. For more information, go to http://www.bom.gov.au/water/nwa/2014/

HIMALDOC: A one-stop portal for Himalayan information resources

19:17
HIMALDOC, based on Invenio software, was developed by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) as a tool for the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) regional repository on sustainable mountain development. The HKH region is the source of 10 large Asian river systems. They provide water, ecosystem services, and the basis for livelihoods to more than 210 million people. Much research has been done on social and environmental issues in the HKH by scholars from different universities, regional and international research organizations, governments and UN bodies. But the scientific results and data are either not available online or scattered on different web pages. HIMALDOC aims to collect, harvest and make these resources accessible. The availability of such specific information resources and data through a single interface is crucial to further research, development and policy making.

Groundwater, the Hidden Resource

03:41
Water is essential to human, plant, and animal survival. From huge cities to tiny villages, about 50% of the world’s population depends on groundwater every day. So what’s the problem? Well, while groundwater is the most abundant source of fresh water on earth, it remains a hidden resource. We often know where to locate it, but what really keeps it “hidden” is the limited amount of data on its availability, quantity and quality. In other words: we often have insufficient real insight in the water below. Now it’s time to uncover the mysteries behind the great resource of groundwater! CBSA e-Training Webinar "Long Term Availability of Copper"

58:21
Recent work done by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) indicates that long-term availability of copper resources is good. The work, detailed in early 2014, shows known world resources of copper to be 2,100 million metric tons (Mt). With annual U.S. consumption of 2 Mt and global annual consumption of 20 Mt, there are enough identified resources of copper to last for about 100 years. The importance of the USGS work is the estimate of the "undiscovered copper resources of the world." In a cooperative evaluation of these global resources, the results show that there are an additional 3,500 Mt of undiscovered copper resources around the globe. That is an added 100-150 years of copper supply, bringing the total to more than 250 years of copper resources at current consumption rates. Based on this work and additional analysis by the International Copper Study Group (ICSG) we have more than adequate supplies of copper resources going forward. When you combine this with the fact that copper alloys are readily and easily recycled, we are well supplied with copper materials into the future. This webinar will review the USGS copper availability information and the ICSG analysis. Jim Michel, technical services manager for the Copper Development Association and Andrea Vaccari, owner of Align Consulting will present the webinar.

Amazon AWS Region, Availability Zone Topics explained in 10 minutes||AWS Concepts||

10:32
Regions Each Amazon EC2 region is designed to be completely isolated from the other Amazon EC2 regions. This achieves the greatest possible fault tolerance and stability. When you view your resources, you'll only see the resources tied to the region you've specified. This is because regions are isolated from each other, and we don't replicate resources across regions automatically. When you launch an instance, you must select an AMI that's in the same region. If the AMI is in another region, you can copy the AMI to the region you're using. For more information, see Copying an AMI. Note that there is a charge for data transfer between regions. For more information, see Amazon EC2 Pricing - Data Transfer. Availability Zones When you launch an instance, you can select an Availability Zone or let us choose one for you. If you distribute your instances across multiple Availability Zones and one instance fails, you can design your application so that an instance in another Availability Zone can handle requests. You can also use Elastic IP addresses to mask the failure of an instance in one Availability Zone by rapidly remapping the address to an instance in another Availability Zone. For more information, see Elastic IP Addresses. An Availability Zone is represented by a region code followed by a letter identifier; for example, us-east-1a. To ensure that resources are distributed across the Availability Zones for a region, we independently map Availability Zones to identifiers for each account. For example, your Availability Zone us-east-1a might not be the same location as us-east-1a for another account. There's no way for you to coordinate Availability Zones between accounts. As Availability Zones grow over time, our ability to expand them can become constrained. If this happens, we might restrict you from launching an instance in a constrained Availability Zone unless you already have an instance in that Availability Zone. Eventually, we might also remove the constrained Availability Zone from the list of Availability Zones for new customers. Therefore, your account might have a different number of available Availability Zones in a region than another account. You can list the Availability Zones that are available to your account. For more information, see Describing Your Regions and Availability Zones mazon CloudFront is a web service that speeds up distribution of your static and dynamic web content, such as .html, .css, .js, and image files, to your users. CloudFront delivers your content through a worldwide network of data centers called edge locations. When a user requests content that you're serving with CloudFront, the user is routed to the edge location that provides the lowest latency (time delay), so that content is delivered with the best possible performance. If the content is already in the edge location with the lowest latency, CloudFront delivers it immediately. If the content is not in that edge location, CloudFront retrieves it from an Amazon S3 bucket or an HTTP server (for example, a web server) that you have identified as the source for the definitive version of your content. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Introduction to all Amazon AWS cloud services!!! ProTrack: Limited resource availability during a certain period

01:32
Answer: We will answer this question based on an example. Suppose you have 4 employees at your disposal, which means you have an availability of that resource of 400%. However, during 1 month availability is restricted to 2 employees. After adding your resources, go to the resources page. Right click on the resource that has limited availability and click on 'show availability'. By pressing the plus button, you can add extra rules that can change resource availability in certain periods. First, you add the starting date of the period with limited availability and change availability. Then you have to add the starting date of the period your resource has full availability again. Don't forget to click the check mark. For more information, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theprotrackcommunity/

Resource Capacity Planner - Excel Template - Team Capacity (Hours) Planning

16:41
In this article, we will be taking up monthly capacity planning for a team. We will be using the Resource Capacity Planner Excel Template in this exercise. (Link: https://indzara.com/product/resource-capacity-planner-excel-template/) SCENARIO: We are responsible for planning our team’s capacity every month. We need to have a realistic view of how much work can be done by our team next month, taking into account the availability of each of our team members during the month. This will allow us to commit to our leadership on deliverables’ scope and if needed ask for more resource or to reduce the deliverables. Resource Capacity Planner Excel template is helpful in understanding the available resource capacity, comparing with demand and identifying surplus/deficit capacity by skill groups. The template takes the resource availability, holidays, weekends, overtime and vacation data to calculate capacity. Then, based on your input demand data, it can calculate the surplus/deficit capacity. In addition, you can generate an employee availability report. It can be used in different environments. For example, a manager leading a team can use this to plan capacity of his team every month. A project manager who is working on a multi-month long project can plan the resource capacity for the entire duration. This can also be used outside corporate environments wherever you want to compare demand vs capacity. How to Find Resources at UA Libraries

06:06
This video covers how to use the research tools on the University of Alabama Libraries' website to find the resources you need. The search functions covered are Scout, The Databases Index, E-Resources, the Libraries' Catalog, and ACUMEN Digital Archives. UA Libraries: http://www.lib.ua.edu Ask-A-Librarian: http://www.ask.lib.ua.edu VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: SCOUT: Our primary search tool is SCOUT, which searches the Libraries Catalog, our databases, the digital archive, all in one search. Scout looks for keywords by default, but its Advanced Search mode can be adjusted with the drop-down menus to search by title, author, or other parameters. Use the AND, OR, NOT menu to narrow or broaden your terms. You can refine results in the sidebar. For example, I might want only peer-reviewed articles published since 2016. I’ll enter a simple keyword search to illustrate how the results display and link to the resources. The first is a print book currently on the shelf in the Education library. The second is an article from an academic journal with a linked pdf, which requires a few clicks to get to it. Next is a direct download link for a full-text pdf. Last you can see “Check for Full Text,” this means that we don’t have access to a digital copy, but it may be available through print holdings or interlibrary loan. As the all-in-one research tool for UA Libraries, Scout is a great place to begin exploring a topic and discovering what articles and books are available. For more in-depth research, however, you may need to explore specific databases. DATABASES: Databases are large collections of specialized content, such as full-text academic journals, news, statistical data, or streaming video collections. UA Libraries provides access to hundreds of databases, all of which can be accessed through our Databases link on the home page. You can use the drop-down menus to find databases by subject or type. You can also find a database by name using the A-Z index or search bar. The subject, scope, and range of a database are described below each link. Each link will take you to that database’s landing page, where you can browse or search for specific resources. Databases are organized and constructed in a variety of ways. Some, like Academic Search Premier, look a lot like Scout. Others, like ProQuest Historical Newspapers, have different options and search functions designed specifically for the content they contain. In most databases, you can perform advanced searches with menus and limiters to find the best results. Many databases also provide specific tutorials and FAQs for advanced searching. Each database has unique content and resources, so advanced research often requires searching in multiple databases. E-RESOURCES: The E-Resources link lets you browse our electronic journal and book holdings alphabetically or by subject area. You can also search by journal title, making this the fastest way to find complete issues of specific scholarly journals; just search for the title, follow the links, and then find the volume you want. Most are organized by year. You can also browse by subject area, and then limit your results by resource type. Clicking a title in the results listing will allow you to directly access the content. LIBRARIES' CATALOG: The Libraries' Catalog search tool is different than Scout, and is sometimes more convenient to use if you know the author, title, or subject of a book you’re looking for. The catalog searches UA’s permanent collection of books, government docs, periodicals, multimedia items, rare books, primary documents, and microfilm. You can also search for specific journals by title to check availability of print and electronic volumes. When you click on a result, you’ll see the item’s information, location, and availability. The actions menu on the right of the item record page allows you to save, send, or export records, and you can also request to hold a book, recall a book that is currently checked out, or request items from the Annex. ACUMEN DIGITAL ARCHIVES: Through UA’s homegrown digital archive, ACUMEN, you can access or locate items from our special collections libraries such as dissertations, manuscripts, photographs, historical audio, and rare books. ACUMEN is searched by keyword and results can be filtered by resource type. For detailed information on using UA’s special collections with ACUMEN, click the Guidance tab at the top of the ACUMEN front page. If you need help finding resources or have questions about using UA Libraries, contact us at 205-348-6047 or go to ask.lib.ua.edu to Ask-A-Librarian."

How to source your voter database

05:10
Political candidates often run into trouble when trying to source voter files for their election run. Different countries have different regimes and traditions with respect to the availability of voter data. In Europe particularly, it can be very difficult to access any identifiable information about voters and politicians have to rely on generic data about areas. In the US, typically, voter data is much more readily available with a range of sources to choose from. If you are starting on your voter list journey today here are some of the sources you might look to and below that is a list of some of the vendors of this information broken down by country. If your country is not listed or if you are still struggling, then contact us and we will help you to find the correct source for your area. Voter file vendors There are a host of voter file vendors, mainly in the US, who provide incredibly detailed voter information. They often will have software attached that is then used to outreach to these voters. Party sources If you are affiliated with a political party, they should be able to provide you with good quality voter information that has been built up over time. If they cannot, it might be worth asking why not? Previous candidates or retiring incumbents It is always worth asking former candidates or retiring incumbents for their information. A simple clean up job on the file and it might be saleable. Local government resources By far the most common source of voter information is local government or the county/city council. They are usually obliged to provide an electoral register to candidates but will often need to be harassed/cajoled or taken to dinner to extract it from them! Seriously though, know what you are entitled and make sure that they deliver on this. Organically/voter outreach This is easily the best voter file you can acquire if you have the time and resources to do it. Building a voter list yourself through voter outreach will give you a watertight resource and the huge benefit of all those interactions in order to get it! Think long term and start early with this, your political career is unlikely to be just one run for office. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of our world-class products and exciting updates: https://goo.gl/YhZF9h When someone mentions the term information security, what do you think of first? Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability? How about Effectiveness, Efficiency, Compliance or Reliability? When you think about all the things you do today to secure information across your organization, what does that look like? As attacks against infrastructures become more sophisticated and targeted, protecting accounts and credentials will be more important than ever. Organizations will need to understand who might be a high value target because of their access to sensitive information and do a better job of verifying the identity of users before providing access to sensitive resources. At the same time, organizations will also need to deploy advanced measures to monitor user activities and detect suspicious behavior before it negatively impacts the business. Webinar: Application Availability Monitoring sneak peek

42:18
Join Matthew Long and Richard Benwell for a sneak peek at some upcoming functionality in the next feature release of Squared Up: Application Availability Monitoring. SCOM has many capabilities for monitoring the health of your applications from an end-user or business perspective, but these are typically behind clunky UI or require specific SCOM MP authoring knowledge to leverage. It's also not always obvious how to rollup health from your end-user tests into a health model along with traditional infrastructure monitoring data and how to surface that into the business. This behind the scenes webinar shows a small part of how Squared Up vNext models this with newly dubbed 'Enterprise Applications', and how easy it will soon be to configure both simple web tests and advanced scripting scenarios, tied together with your app component and infrastructure health and reported to your business in a consistent, clear manner. Welcome to the DoveScore!

01:42
The DoveScore finds the best places with healthcare resources in America. Each geographic location including address, zip code, or city is scored out of 100 based on the accessibility and availability of health care. The DoveScore created a unique algorithm based on the medical resources of hospitals, physicians, and nearby amenities of each geographical location. A community with a higher score means that the community is close to quality health care. For each area, communities receive points based on their distance to the amenities in each category. Then, the data is summed and normalized to give a score between 1 and 100. A decay function is used to give more points to areas closer to facilities and fewer points to areas farther from facilities. The DoveScore services to more than 35,000 cities and zip codes, helping you receive more granular information about the community of your interest. Research Project on Water Allocation and Availability

03:16
The project title is: Assessing the Impact of Water Abstraction Project on Water Allocation and Availability Along River Ragati Basin in Mathira East Sub-County Kenya. The project seeks to address three main objectives on a wider scope namely; To find out the effect of Water Abstraction for domestic on agricultural needs, effect of water abstraction for agriculture on domestic needs and effect of water abstraction for domestic and agriculture on the environment/ecology. This would mainly address the harmony in water allocation and availability across the three water user sectors. The problem statement is to address the issue of considerable concerns of water shortage from the locals as well as availability regardless of the several abstraction project schemes established in Ragati forest along the River basin. The water institutional bodies such as Water Resource Users Association would be evaluated to determine the performance of their mandate in ensuring harmony in water allocation across the water users. This would benefit the local government in addressing proper utilisation of water resources and also provide information that would ensure transparency and management of the abstraction projects with legit licences for withdraw to minimise water conflicts among the community members and water related companies.

Health Systems - This Week in Global Health

27:17
This episode of TWiGH will focus on Health Systems. To subscribe to our news-letter and get the "show notes" from each show, click here http://www.twigh.org/news-letter/ What are "Health Systems": - Leadership and governance - Financing - Information technologies - Healthcare products - Human resources for health - Service delivery Medical products and technologies represent the second (after salaries) largest component of health expenditure in low and middle income countries. Components of a functioning system include: - A regulatory system that ensures high quality and safe products are available - A national list of essential medical products per level of care, treatment protocols and procurement guides - A supply and distribution system to ensure universal access - A national medical products availability and price monitoring system - A national programme to promote rational prescribing Human Resources for Health: Common concerns include - recruitment, - education, - training, - improved productivity and - retention of the workforce Globally, rural areas are served by only 38% of the total nursing workforce and by less than 25% of the total physician workforce. less than 2% of the global health expenditure are spent each year on health professional education 57 countries have a health workforce crisis In a well-functioning health system, the network of service delivery should have the following characteristics: - comprehensiveness, - accessibility, - continuity, - people-centeredness, - coordination, - accountability and - efficiency. The health information system provides the underpinnings for decision-making and has four key functions: - data generation - compilation - analysis and synthesis - and communication and use. The health information system COLLECTS data from the health sector and other relevant sectors, ANALYSES the data and ensures their overall QUALITY, RELEVANCE and TIMELINESS, and converts data into information for health-related decision-making. The health system needs - A system to raise sufficient funds for health fairly - A system to pool financial resources across population groups to share financial risks - A financing governance system supported by relevant legislation, financial audit and public expenditure reviews, and clear operational rules to ensure efficient use of funds Some facts - 150 million each year suffer severe financial hardship because they have to pay out of their own pockets at the time they receive care, and 100 million are pushed into poverty as a result - 17.9% of total expenditure on health was out of pocket in 2012 - 50% of Official Development Assistance for health flows through governments Components of health governance - Ensuring that health authorities take responsibility for steering the entire health sector (not merely public sector service delivery); and for dealing with future challenges (including unanticipated events or disasters) as well as with current problems - Defining, through transparent and inclusive processes, national health policies, strategy and plans that set a clear direction for the health sector - Coordination of the other 5 components of the health system - Oversight of resource allocation -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Know how interpret an epidemic curve?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SM4PN7Yg1s -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
