Water Resources

11:38
005 - Water Resources In this video Paul Andersen explains how water is unequally distributed around the globe through the hydrologic cycles. Seawater is everywhere but is not useful without costly desalination. Freshwater is divided between surface water and groundwater but must me stored and moved for domestic, industrial, and agricultural uses. Subsidized low cost water has created a problem with water conservation but economic changes could help solve the problem. Do you speak another language? Types Of Natural Resources

01:52
Follow us at: https://plus.google.com/+tutorvista/ Check us out at http://www.tutorvista.com/content/biology/biology-iv/natural-resources/natural-resources-types.php Types of Natural Resources Natural resources are naturally occurring resources in the environment that have not been disturbed by mankind. By resource is meant any physical entity, which has limited availability. These resources occur in their natural form. Few examples of natural resources are: •Air, wind and atmosphere •Plants (Flora) •Animals (Fauna) •Agronomy (the science of using plants for food, fuel, feed and fiber) •Wildlife •Forestry and Agroforestry •Coal and fossil fuels •Range and pasture •Soils •Water, oceans, lakes and rivers Something that people generally arent aware of, is that everything we use in everyday life are derived from natural resources, for example, milk which comes from cows - animals are a natural resource. We use water, food and vegetables that comes from plants, salt which is a mineral are some of the other natural resources. Wood that we get from tree is a natural resource. It can be used to build a house, make paper, burn in fireplaces and in stoves for cooking, etc. Man utilizes these resources in various ways. These resources are processed further so as to be made suitable for our needs. The table below is an example that shows in what way the resources have been utilized. ProTrack: Limited resource availability during a certain period

01:32
Answer: We will answer this question based on an example. Suppose you have 4 employees at your disposal, which means you have an availability of that resource of 400%. However, during 1 month availability is restricted to 2 employees. After adding your resources, go to the resources page. Right click on the resource that has limited availability and click on 'show availability'. By pressing the plus button, you can add extra rules that can change resource availability in certain periods. First, you add the starting date of the period with limited availability and change availability. Then you have to add the starting date of the period your resource has full availability again. Don't forget to click the check mark. For more information, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theprotrackcommunity/

Resource Capacity Planner - Excel Template - Team Capacity (Hours) Planning

16:41
In this article, we will be taking up monthly capacity planning for a team. We will be using the Resource Capacity Planner Excel Template in this exercise. (Link: https://indzara.com/product/resource-capacity-planner-excel-template/) SCENARIO: We are responsible for planning our team’s capacity every month. We need to have a realistic view of how much work can be done by our team next month, taking into account the availability of each of our team members during the month. This will allow us to commit to our leadership on deliverables’ scope and if needed ask for more resource or to reduce the deliverables. Resource Capacity Planner Excel template is helpful in understanding the available resource capacity, comparing with demand and identifying surplus/deficit capacity by skill groups. The template takes the resource availability, holidays, weekends, overtime and vacation data to calculate capacity. Then, based on your input demand data, it can calculate the surplus/deficit capacity. In addition, you can generate an employee availability report. It can be used in different environments. For example, a manager leading a team can use this to plan capacity of his team every month. A project manager who is working on a multi-month long project can plan the resource capacity for the entire duration. This can also be used outside corporate environments wherever you want to compare demand vs capacity. HIMALDOC: A one-stop portal for Himalayan information resources

19:17
HIMALDOC, based on Invenio software, was developed by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) as a tool for the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) regional repository on sustainable mountain development. The HKH region is the source of 10 large Asian river systems. They provide water, ecosystem services, and the basis for livelihoods to more than 210 million people. Much research has been done on social and environmental issues in the HKH by scholars from different universities, regional and international research organizations, governments and UN bodies. But the scientific results and data are either not available online or scattered on different web pages. HIMALDOC aims to collect, harvest and make these resources accessible. The availability of such specific information resources and data through a single interface is crucial to further research, development and policy making.

National Water Account 2013–14

03:11
In our variable climate, as our population increases and industries change, competition for Australia’s precious water resources intensifies. To ensure we have enough water for everyone, it is important to account for how water is managed across Australia. We need to know how much water is available, where it is, and how it’s being used. The Bureau of Meteorology’s National Water Account provides an annual picture of water availability. It plays a critical role in the planning and decision-making processes of governments and industry. This video summarises the key findings of the National Water Account 2014 from a national perspective. For more information, go to http://www.bom.gov.au/water/nwa/2014/

Availability Intelligence for z/OS Performance & Capacity Planning

04:14
For more resources, please visit: http://info.intellimagic.com/z/OS "Availability" is often associated with technologies and processes used to recover from service disruptions once availability to production applications has been lost. But protecting availability before it is lost is even better than recovering it after the production environment is affected. Availability Intelligence is able to produce visibility of upcoming threats that can disrupt service availability so that they can be avoided before impacting production users. Discover how IntelliMagic for z/OS can change the way you think about your z/OS environment. Your z/OS mainframe is known for superior reliability. In fact, the "z" in z Systems even stands for "Zero Downtime" That means your users on z have never experienced outages, right? Of course they have! The z/OS operating system may indeed have zero unplanned downtime. But every shop still experiences issues on the z that impact at least some end-users. And they are expensive - 686 thousand dollars per hour of downtime for large companies according to a recent Aberdeen Group survey. Outages can be classified as either Predictable or Unpredictable. Today, you probably think of most incidents that disrupt availability as unpredictable. Why is this? If it could have been predicted, you would have indeed avoided it, right? And if you did not avoid it, then it is normal to think of it as “unpredictable”. But what if many of these currently unpredictable incidents could be moved to the predictable category? How would that impact your customers, your employees, your IT staff? How would it reduce emergency hardware purchases? How can you effect this shift? z/OS mainframes already generate far richer measurement data than any other enterprise computing platform. But this data is vastly underutilized. First, because the extreme quantity of data makes it difficult and time consuming to find what is important; And second, because understanding what the data means is very difficult. To see what it means about risk to continuous availability for your end-users, the data needs to be interpreted with specific knowledge about the capabilities of your hardware configuration. Your existing RMF and SMF reporting that has been in use for many years is simply unable to create this kind of intelligence from the data. Unlocking the potential of the performance and configuration data lets you protect availability for your production users in new way. But this requires a new approach. It requires automatic, daily interpretation using built-in expert domain knowledge. Expert domain knowledge about the infrastructure is the key to discovering upcoming problems in the data and is far more effective at it than even Analytics solutions that spot correlations or anomalies in the data. Built-in expert domain knowledge is what transforms the data into intelligence about your workloads on your infrastructure. Where are the bottlenecks developing? When are your workloads likely to saturate certain components and introduce unacceptable delays? What can you do to avoid an outage? This Availability Intelligence gives insight that is “sooner than real time” because you see upcoming problems before your real-time monitors can even detect any service disruption. And for incidents that are truly the result of unpredictable events, it provides insight that dramatically reduces the Mean Time To Resolution. IntelliMagic Vision produces this Availability Intelligence for your z/OS infrastructure from processors down to the physical disks, and other mission critical z/OS resources such as virtual tape and the replication infrastructure. Some of the largest mainframe shops in the world are using IntelliMagic Vision every day, as are small and mid-sized shops, but you don't have to take our word or even their word for it. Using your historical data we can show you the warning we would have provided before your last incident. Just send us your data, and you can see for yourself. You can install our software on site. But this problem of how to generate valuable intelligence out of the data, is one that lends itself very well to the Software as a Service model. In as little as 24 hours after starting to send us your data, you can start receiving valuable intelligence about specific threats to availability in your infrastructure and this services option also gives you access to deep experts to consult with you about risks and remediation strategies. No long term, expensive contract is required. Intellimagic Vision will provide you with the Availability Intelligence you need to outsmart unavailability incidents by avoiding outages and solving problems faster. How to Find Resources at UA Libraries

06:06
This video covers how to use the research tools on the University of Alabama Libraries' website to find the resources you need. The search functions covered are Scout, The Databases Index, E-Resources, the Libraries' Catalog, and ACUMEN Digital Archives. UA Libraries: http://www.lib.ua.edu Ask-A-Librarian: http://www.ask.lib.ua.edu VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: SCOUT: Our primary search tool is SCOUT, which searches the Libraries Catalog, our databases, the digital archive, all in one search. Scout looks for keywords by default, but its Advanced Search mode can be adjusted with the drop-down menus to search by title, author, or other parameters. Use the AND, OR, NOT menu to narrow or broaden your terms. You can refine results in the sidebar. For example, I might want only peer-reviewed articles published since 2016. I’ll enter a simple keyword search to illustrate how the results display and link to the resources. The first is a print book currently on the shelf in the Education library. The second is an article from an academic journal with a linked pdf, which requires a few clicks to get to it. Next is a direct download link for a full-text pdf. Last you can see “Check for Full Text,” this means that we don’t have access to a digital copy, but it may be available through print holdings or interlibrary loan. As the all-in-one research tool for UA Libraries, Scout is a great place to begin exploring a topic and discovering what articles and books are available. For more in-depth research, however, you may need to explore specific databases. DATABASES: Databases are large collections of specialized content, such as full-text academic journals, news, statistical data, or streaming video collections. UA Libraries provides access to hundreds of databases, all of which can be accessed through our Databases link on the home page. You can use the drop-down menus to find databases by subject or type. You can also find a database by name using the A-Z index or search bar. The subject, scope, and range of a database are described below each link. Each link will take you to that database’s landing page, where you can browse or search for specific resources. Databases are organized and constructed in a variety of ways. Some, like Academic Search Premier, look a lot like Scout. Others, like ProQuest Historical Newspapers, have different options and search functions designed specifically for the content they contain. In most databases, you can perform advanced searches with menus and limiters to find the best results. Many databases also provide specific tutorials and FAQs for advanced searching. Each database has unique content and resources, so advanced research often requires searching in multiple databases. E-RESOURCES: The E-Resources link lets you browse our electronic journal and book holdings alphabetically or by subject area. You can also search by journal title, making this the fastest way to find complete issues of specific scholarly journals; just search for the title, follow the links, and then find the volume you want. Most are organized by year. You can also browse by subject area, and then limit your results by resource type. Clicking a title in the results listing will allow you to directly access the content. LIBRARIES' CATALOG: The Libraries' Catalog search tool is different than Scout, and is sometimes more convenient to use if you know the author, title, or subject of a book you’re looking for. The catalog searches UA’s permanent collection of books, government docs, periodicals, multimedia items, rare books, primary documents, and microfilm. You can also search for specific journals by title to check availability of print and electronic volumes. When you click on a result, you’ll see the item’s information, location, and availability. The actions menu on the right of the item record page allows you to save, send, or export records, and you can also request to hold a book, recall a book that is currently checked out, or request items from the Annex. ACUMEN DIGITAL ARCHIVES: Through UA’s homegrown digital archive, ACUMEN, you can access or locate items from our special collections libraries such as dissertations, manuscripts, photographs, historical audio, and rare books. ACUMEN is searched by keyword and results can be filtered by resource type. For detailed information on using UA’s special collections with ACUMEN, click the Guidance tab at the top of the ACUMEN front page. If you need help finding resources or have questions about using UA Libraries, contact us at 205-348-6047 or go to ask.lib.ua.edu to Ask-A-Librarian."
Groundwater, the Hidden Resource

03:41
Water is essential to human, plant, and animal survival. From huge cities to tiny villages, about 50% of the world’s population depends on groundwater every day. So what’s the problem? Well, while groundwater is the most abundant source of fresh water on earth, it remains a hidden resource. We often know where to locate it, but what really keeps it “hidden” is the limited amount of data on its availability, quantity and quality. In other words: we often have insufficient real insight in the water below. Now it’s time to uncover the mysteries behind the great resource of groundwater! If You’ve Never Heard of the ‘Homework Gap’ This Video Will Shock You

04:15
In the age of technology, we have more information at our finger tips than ever before. We partnered with Sprint to explore what advantages (and disadvantages) students have thanks to the internet. 70% of teachers assign homework that requires access to the internet. Yet, 5 million families with school aged children do not have access to high speed internet at home. So, what happens to the kids whose life circumstances don’t allow them easy access to all the internet has to offer? That’s why Sprint has committed to help close the Homework Gap by providing 1 million free devices and wireless service to low income high school students who do not have internet access at home. Potential is everywhere. Visit a Sprint Store or http://www.1millionproject.org to see how you can help, too. We love to connect with YOU, no matter what language you speak. Water in the Balance: The Human Fingerprint on Global Freshwater Availability as Seen from Space

01:08:36
A CUSA Sustainability Seminar delivered by Jay Famiglietti, PhD, Professor, Earth System Science and Civil & Environmental Engineering, and Director, UC Center for Hydrologic Modeling. Recorded on April 6, 2011. Over the last decade, satellite observations of Earth's water cycle, in particular, those from NASA's GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) mission, have provided an unprecedented view of recent changes in freshwater availability. In particular, the human fingerprint of water management practices such as reservoir storage and groundwater use is abundantly clear, and raises many important issues for climate, water, food and economic security. Moreover, the worldwide depletion of groundwater aquifers and their transboundary nature points to the great potential heightened conflict in the very near future. In this seminar I will review the basics of how the GRACE mission observes world water resources, what new information the mission has provided since its launch in 2002, and what the implications are for the future of water availability. Several hotspots for water stress, including implications for regional security and conflict, will be highlighted.

Health Systems - This Week in Global Health

27:17
This episode of TWiGH will focus on Health Systems. To subscribe to our news-letter and get the "show notes" from each show, click here http://www.twigh.org/news-letter/ What are "Health Systems": - Leadership and governance - Financing - Information technologies - Healthcare products - Human resources for health - Service delivery Medical products and technologies represent the second (after salaries) largest component of health expenditure in low and middle income countries. Components of a functioning system include: - A regulatory system that ensures high quality and safe products are available - A national list of essential medical products per level of care, treatment protocols and procurement guides - A supply and distribution system to ensure universal access - A national medical products availability and price monitoring system - A national programme to promote rational prescribing Human Resources for Health: Common concerns include - recruitment, - education, - training, - improved productivity and - retention of the workforce Globally, rural areas are served by only 38% of the total nursing workforce and by less than 25% of the total physician workforce. less than 2% of the global health expenditure are spent each year on health professional education 57 countries have a health workforce crisis In a well-functioning health system, the network of service delivery should have the following characteristics: - comprehensiveness, - accessibility, - continuity, - people-centeredness, - coordination, - accountability and - efficiency. The health information system provides the underpinnings for decision-making and has four key functions: - data generation - compilation - analysis and synthesis - and communication and use. The health information system COLLECTS data from the health sector and other relevant sectors, ANALYSES the data and ensures their overall QUALITY, RELEVANCE and TIMELINESS, and converts data into information for health-related decision-making. The health system needs - A system to raise sufficient funds for health fairly - A system to pool financial resources across population groups to share financial risks - A financing governance system supported by relevant legislation, financial audit and public expenditure reviews, and clear operational rules to ensure efficient use of funds Some facts - 150 million each year suffer severe financial hardship because they have to pay out of their own pockets at the time they receive care, and 100 million are pushed into poverty as a result - 17.9% of total expenditure on health was out of pocket in 2012 - 50% of Official Development Assistance for health flows through governments Components of health governance - Ensuring that health authorities take responsibility for steering the entire health sector (not merely public sector service delivery); and for dealing with future challenges (including unanticipated events or disasters) as well as with current problems - Defining, through transparent and inclusive processes, national health policies, strategy and plans that set a clear direction for the health sector - Coordination of the other 5 components of the health system - Oversight of resource allocation -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Know how interpret an epidemic curve?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SM4PN7Yg1s -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
2018: Prospering Availability | Apostle Shane Wall

01:30:04
2018: Prospering Availability | Apostle Shane Wall 2018 will be a continuation with a stronger concentration of prosperity being among those who respectfully make themselves available to God, as His divinity and holiness deserves. Join us at the Feast of the Lord as Apostle Shane Wall tells us what God is saying about 2018 in the message Prospering Availability! Sermon Notes: 22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. 23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. 24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? 25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? 26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? 27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? 29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. 30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. 31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Luke 12:22-31 (KJV) https://goo.gl/tzD6TP *- Most of us don’t worry about having food and the such like, but we do fret offending the resources we depend on to provide our necessities. *- We are more prone to spend and invest our availability with who and what matters the most to us. 2018: Prospering Availability *- 2018 will be a continuation with a stronger concentration of prosperity being among those who respectfully make themselves available to God, as His divinity and holiness deserves. *- “Lord I’m not as available to You as I once was.” *- “Increased availability for many will simply be availability, period.” *- “Which decisions were made, and by whom were they made, that decreased your availability to Me?” *- “Don’t make plans/goals that make your availability to Me scarce.” *- “Too many opportunities that I’ve presented have gone unclaimed by those I have chosen. Therefore, I will open doors to opportunities for those who are available to Me.” Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV) https://goo.gl/KfPfJ5 *- Many of us haven’t received an answer from God nor do we see in the supernatural realm because we’re not available to call God. *- We get so busy seeking amongst our resources to solve our problems that we neglect to call the Source that can supply every need. 3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? 5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 1 Corinthians 3:3-7 (KJV) https://goo.gl/hxqx8b *- Are you available to plant? Are you available to water? Know, be confident and faithful to who you are. *- “How is this decision going to affect my availability to God?” View every slide of this sermon here: https://goo.gl/PKZFm1 For more information on Apostle Shane Wall or the Feast of the Lord please visit us at http://www.orangeburgchurch.com/.

NASA | Show Me the Water

02:50
Freshwater seems abundant, but when accounting for all the water on Earth, it's in limited supply. Just three percent of the water on our planet is freshwater. A majority of this water, about two percent of the world total, is contained in glaciers and ice sheets or stored below ground. The remaining one percent is found in lakes, rivers and wetland areas or transported through the atmosphere in the form of water vapor, clouds and precipitation. Rain and snowfall replenish freshwater sources, making it vital to know when, where and how much water is falling at any given time. Using NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement satellite, researchers can track precipitation worldwide and monitor levels from space. Availability Intelligence for End-to-End SAN Performance & Capacity

03:40
For more resources, please visit: http://info.intellimagic.com/SAN Discover how to transform unpredictable outages into predictable ones by creating Availability Intelligence out of the storage performance and configuration data using built-in expert domain knowledge. You invested in your enterprise data storage systems because of their high-end performance and data integrity capabilities. In fact, reliably fast data access for your organization is like blood is to the body. If the data stops flowing, the rest of the IT infrastructure doesn’t really matter! Disruptions to availability are a big deal - the average cost of an unplanned outage is now 690,000 dollars per incident, according to a recent study. Yet despite enterprise class features in your high-end storage systems, application unavailability conditions still occur due to storage problems. These outages can be classified as either Predictable or Unpredictable. Today, you probably think of most storage incidents that disrupt application availability as unpredictable. Why is this? If it could have been predicted, you would have indeed avoided it, right? And if you could not see it and avoid it, then it is normal to think of it as “unpredictable”. But what if many of these currently unpredictable incidents could be moved to the predictable and avoidable category? How would that impact the applications that your customers and employees use? How would it affect the focus of your IT staff? And how would it reduce emergency storage hardware purchases? How can you effect this shift? Your enterprise storage arrays and fabric switches generate detailed performance and configuration data. Yet despite the mission critical role that storage plays, and despite this rich source of performance data the internal storage components are still the least visible and monitored parts in the entire IT infrastructure. Virtualization only makes it more difficult to understand which physical resources are handling which virtualized IO workloads. Analytics and reporting solutions are not enough – they can spot correlations or anomalies in the data, but they don’t know when critical components are approaching their saturation points. Only one key can unlock the potential of the storage performance and configuration data to show approaching problems. That key is Expert Domain Knowledge. Automatic interpretation of the data, using built-in expert knowledge, is the only way to transform the data into intelligence about risk to availability. Where are the bottlenecks developing? When are individual components likely to introduce unacceptable delays? What can you do to avoid an outage? This Availability Intelligence gives insight that is “sooner than real time” because you see upcoming problems long before your real-time monitors can even detect high response times. And for incidents that are truly the result of unpredictable events, this intelligence dramatically reduces the Mean Time To Resolution. IntelliMagic is uniquely positioned to transform the data into this kind of intelligence because of the type of expert knowledge we build into our software. We’ve amassed this expert knowledge through more than 20 years of being the world’s only provider of storage performance modeling software. You can install our IntelliMagic Vision software on-site. But this problem of how to generate valuable intelligence out of the data is one that lends itself very well to the Software as a Service model. In as little as 30 minutes after starting to send your data to our services platform, you can start receiving valuable intelligence about specific threats to availability in your storage infrastructure. This services option also gives you access to deep experts to consult with you about risks and remediation strategies. No long term, expensive contract is required. The Availability Intelligence created by IntelliMagic Vision enables you to avoid outages and solve problems faster. For more information, please contact us at intellimagic.com

Webinar: Application Availability Monitoring sneak peek

42:18
Join Matthew Long and Richard Benwell for a sneak peek at some upcoming functionality in the next feature release of Squared Up: Application Availability Monitoring. SCOM has many capabilities for monitoring the health of your applications from an end-user or business perspective, but these are typically behind clunky UI or require specific SCOM MP authoring knowledge to leverage. It's also not always obvious how to rollup health from your end-user tests into a health model along with traditional infrastructure monitoring data and how to surface that into the business. This behind the scenes webinar shows a small part of how Squared Up vNext models this with newly dubbed 'Enterprise Applications', and how easy it will soon be to configure both simple web tests and advanced scripting scenarios, tied together with your app component and infrastructure health and reported to your business in a consistent, clear manner. For more information on what's coming in Squared Up vNext, check out our previous webinar on a 2018 Squared Up preview (links below).
