Creating a Local Bitcoin Testnet / Regtest - Programming Bitcoin

23:20
UPDATE: a few specifics have changed, see below for up-to-date commands In this video we create a local bitcoin testnet within a docker container. Then we'll connect to our testnet from Bitcoin-Qt on our desktop (host) machine. Here's the docker box we're going to use: https://github.com/freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box Essentially, run: docker pull freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box docker run -t -i --name bitcoind -P -p 49020:19000 freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box make start Now we'll have a local testnet we can use for test transactions. Tips: 1FfxymRtVTJbqtFg5ZK9p16mABVFCjqg6J ------------------ It's been a few years since I recorded this and the commands for `freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box` have changed. * Checkout https://github.com/freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box for the latest instructions on how to run that Docker box. * Make sure you expose port 19000, too: `docker run -t -i -p 19000:19000 -p 19001:19001 -p 19011:19011 freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box` * Instead of using bitcoind at 9:31, use: `bitcoin-cli -datadir=1 stop` * To tail the log run: `tail -f 1/regtest/debug.log` * To run BitcoinQT: `/Applications/Bitcoin-Qt.app/Contents/MacOS/Bitcoin-Qt -regtest -dnsseed=0 -connect=0.0.0.0:19000 -datadir=./localnet/ -splash=0` - note the different port and using regtest instead of testnet mode * Now use bitcoin-cli for most functions instead of bitcoind * E.g. `bitcoin-cli -datadir=1 listaccounts` Show less

Upgrading the Ignition Coin Wallet on Windows 7/8.1/10

02:39
Upgrading the Ignition Coin Wallet on Windows 7/8.1/10 $IC Your default data directory is in the folder %AppData%\Ignition, you can reach it by pasting %AppData% into your windows explorer address bar - This folder contains your wallet*, the chain data, and your configuration files. First, we want to backup the important files from the data directory. Turn off any running Ignition wallet on your PC, and make a new folder on your desktop or elsewhere to store your backup files. Then, go to %appdata%\Ignition\ folder, and copy these important files to your backup folder: wallet.dat, Ignition.conf, and masternode.conf (if it exists) Now, you can delete the data directory. Click the Folder ^up button or type %appdata% in the address bar. Then, delete the Ignition folder. (Make sure you have backed up your wallet.dat or you WILL LOSE YOUR COINS!!) Now that your data directory is deleted, you can run the latest wallet. It is a `.exe` file and you can get the latest here: https://github.com/ignitioncoin/ignitioncoin/releases (use the one with the highest version number) When you run it, it will then sync, this may take a while. Once fully synced, shut it down. You can check if it is synced using the explorer, https://chainz.cryptoid.info/ic/ Then, copy the backed up wallet and configuration files into the new Ignition data directory, by dragging your backed up files into %appdata%\Ignition folder. Now, run Ignition-qt again, and your all set , with old wallet and configurations.

Beginner's guide to solo bitcoin and litecoin mining, using cgminer and bfgminer

18:00
Newbie guide for those who want to try solo bitcoin and litecoin mining, using bfgminer and cgminer. The config files shown in the video are available in the readme or example files of the mining folder, but some of them won't be. For the rpcuser etc it's just a case of typing into a regular txt file and renaming it to a .conf file. Make sure you download the latest version of cgminer (I have noticed the 3.8 version doesn't work well with scrypt, but unsure if it has been completely unsupported, I just use 3.6.6) and bfgminer or it's likely to fail. Here are some of the links used in the video: Bitcoin exchange: https://www.virwox.com?r=453b1 Exchange altcoins for bitcoins here: http://bit.ly/1hrDgR9 (coins-e) Cex cloud mining is a good way to start without any mining equipment http://bit.ly/1bLOM6q Donations welcome: Cheap USB block erupters and other asics: http://asics.mongoloid.co.uk/ bfgminer: http://bfgminer.org/ cgminer: http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/ tcpview: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897437.aspx zadig (USB driver for cgminer): http://sourceforge.net/projects/libwdi/files/zadig/ bitcoin wallet: http://bitcoin.org/en/download litecoin wallet: https://litecoin.org/ Also Notepad Plus is recommended: http://www.notepad-plus-plus.org/ Bfgminer.conf file: { "pools" : [ { "url" : "http://127.0.0.1:9332", "user" : "username", "pass" : "password" } ], "intensity" : "11", "worksize" : "64,256", "auto-fan" : true, "auto-gpu" : true, "kernel" : scrypt, "scrypt" : true, "kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin" } cgminer: { "pools" : [ { "url" : "http://127.0.0.1:8332", "user" : "username", "pass" : "password" } ], "intensity" : "8", "worksize" : "64", "gpu-threads" : "1", "scan-serial" : [ "/dev/ttyUSB0", "/dev/ttyUSB1", "/dev/ttyUSB2", "/dev/ttyUSB3" ], "kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin" } litecoin.conf (in AppData Roaming Folder): rpcuser=username rpcpassword=password rpcallowip=127.0.0.1 rpcport=9332 daemon=1 server=1 gen=0 block_nTime=1317972665 block_nNonce=2084524493 bitcoin.conf (in AppData Roaming Folder): server=1 gen=0 rpcuser=username rpcpassword=password rpcallowip=127.0.0.1 rpcport=8332

What is BITCOIN CORE? What does BITCOIN CORE mean? BITCOIN CORE meaning, definition & explanation

What is BITCOIN CORE? What does BITCOIN CORE mean? BITCOIN CORE meaning - BITCOIN CORE definition - BITCOIN CORE explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Bitcoin Core is a reference client of bitcoin. Initially, the software was published by Satoshi Nakamoto under the name Bitcoin, then Bitcoin-Qt and later renamed to Bitcoin Core. It is also known as the Satoshi client. It is a full client used by bitcoin nodes that create the bitcoin network. Through the changes to Bitcoin Core, its developers make changes to the underlying bitcoin protocol. As of 2017, Bitcoin Core repositories are maintained by Wladimir J. van der Laan. The MIT Digital Currency Initiative funds some of development of Bitcoin Core. The project also maintains the cryptography library libsecp256k1 and others located at GitHub. In August 2016, a warning was issued regarding the software being targeted by state-sponsored attackers. The Bitcoin Foundation also warns that running the software may attract attacks which limit available download bandwidth. It includes a transaction verification engine and connects to the bitcoin network as a full node. Moreover, a wallet, which can be used to transfer funds, is included by default. The wallet allows for the sending and receiving of bitcoins. It does not facilitate the buying or selling of bitcoin. It allows users to generate QR codes to receive payment. The software validates the entire blockchain, which includes all bitcoin transactions ever. This distributed ledger which has reached more than 110 gigabytes in size must be downloaded or synchronised before full participation of the client may occur. A command line-based daemon with a JSON-RPC interface, bitcoind, is bundled with Bitcoin Core. It provides access to testnet, a global testing environment that imitates the bitcoin main network or Mainnet. It uses an alternative blockchain where real bitcoin are not used and the blockchain cannot be adversely affected. Regtest or Regression Test Mode creates a private blockchain which is used as a local testing environment. bitcoin-cli is the third program included. It allows users to send RPC commands to bitcoind. Checkpoints have been hard coded into the client. These maintain data integrity by keeping a part of the block chain data in the source code where it is able to be compared to the blockchain when its downloading is complete. A one megabyte block size limit was added in 2010 by Satoshi Nakamoto as a temporary anti-spam measure. This limited the maximum network capacity to about three transactions per second. Since then, some minor changes to the software have improved network capacity incrementally. A network alert system was included by Satoshi Nakamoto as a way of informing users of important news regarding bitcoin. In November 2016 it was retired. It had become obsolete as news on bitcoin is now widely disseminated. Miners are able to signal their decision on the incorporation of new features by voting. A powerful scripting language is used to define transactions. This Forth-like language is part of one of three distinct application programming interfaces. It can enable various transaction parameters. The script uses reverse Polish notation for validation. ScriptPubKey is used to "lock" transactions based on a set of future conditions. scriptSig is used to meet these conditions or "unlock" a transaction. Operations on the data are performed by various OP_Codes. Two stacks are used - main and alt. Looping is forbidden. ....

Dash: QT Wallet TestNet Guide = G15E19

08:08
Dash: QT Wallet TestNet Guide This tutorial will help you run the latest Dash-qt client on Test-net. This video is mean't for Linux but can be used for Windows/Mac as well. You will just need to locate your dash.conf in the Dash Data directory. What is TestNet ? https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Testnet Tipping Address: Xovo9BEAN3sKwxAAt5Knqdo1gqhodnzNu7 Dash is DigitalCash Dash is a decentralized cryptographic currency that works similar to Bitcoin, but fixes many of Bitcoin's problems. Dash's InstantX technology makes transactions almost instant, meaning it is suitable for in-person trades and point-of-sale purchases. Not only that, but Dash is truly private, meaning that nobody can mine the blockchain to find details of your purchases or financial history. You wouldn't advertise your credit card statement--why advertise your crypto purchases? Dash is built from Bitcoin's core code, meaning that it remains compatible with systems that are already designed to work with Bitcoin. The creator of Dash, Evan Duffield, works with a "core team" of almost 20 people to continually improve the Dash code and ecosystem. Since Dash implemented its self-funding mechanism, a number of new developers have begun working on various aspects of the project as well, including retail point-of-sale and vending machine integration. Dash's masternodes enable investors to earn a 10+% annual return on investment while performing vital services for the network. Masternodes power both the privacy and instant transaction features of Dash. Not only that, but masternode owners are able to vote on which projects will receive Dash's monthly self-generated budget funding. Dash's budget system provides tens of thousands of dollars in recurring funds, every month, which masternode owners allocate to projects designed to improve the Dash ecosystem. https://www.dash.org

How to install the Masterchest Windows wallet

05:59
This tutorial explains the steps necessary to install the Masterchest Windows wallet. The process requires the re-indexing of the Bitcoin-Qt database and it may take up to 24 hours. For that reason, please follow the instructions exactly and in order. Masterchest wallet has only been tested on Windows 7 and Windows 8 but it may work on any Windows versions where the .Net 4.0 framework can be installed. Set up your environment 1. Download and install the .NET Framework 4.0 from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851 2. Download and install the latest version of Bitcoin-Qt reference client for Windows: https://bitcoin.org/en/download Re-index the Bitcoin-Qt database 1. Start Windows Explorer, click on "Organize", "Folder and Search Options", and select the "View" tab. There check "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". 2. Press the start button and in the "Search programs and files" field type %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin and press Enter. 3. In the folder that appears, right-click, create a text file, and name it **bitcoin.conf**. Make sure that Windows has not added the ".txt" extension to the file! 4. Right-click on the file, open it using Notepad and paste the following code: rpcport=8332 rpcconnect=localhost rpcuser=your_username rpcpassword=your_password server=1 txindex=1 Save the file and exit Notepad. 5. If you don't already have one, create a shortcut for Bitcoin-Qt on your Desktop. Right-click on the shortcut and choose "Properties". In the "Target" tab enter " -reindex" (without the quotes) after the file location. The final result should be exactly "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Bitcoin\\bitcoin-qt.exe" -reindex 6. Double-click on the Bitcoin-Qt shortcut and wait until the reindexing is finished. *This may take a lot of time*. 7. After the re-indexing is complete, right-click on the Bitcoin-Qt shortcut, select "Properties". In the "Target" tab **remove** the " -reindex" after the file location. The final result should be exactly "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Bitcoin\\bitcoin-qt.exe" Don't make any changes in the bitcoin.conf file. If you do, Bitcoin-Qt will try to re-index the Bitcoin-Qt database again. Download and install Masterchest 1. Go to http://ow.ly/tYKqe and download the Masterchest wallet. 2. Create a new folder and copy there the .zip file you just downloaded. Extract the contents of the zip file there. 3. Start the Bitcoin-Qt wallet and keep it running. 4. Double click on the Masterchest_Wallet.exe and proceed with the installation. 5. The program will first perform some checks. Providing these checks are passed, your wallet will start the synchronization. You may check the status of synchronization by using the debug panel. 6. After the  synchronization is complete (note that the first time this may take a number of hours depending on the speed of your hardware) the network status label  will show 'Synchronized' and you should see an overview of your Mastercoin balance displayed.

How to mine bitcoins (solo mining) with the core client! (*solo mining now removed from client*)

01:00
*****UPDATE***** Solo mining has been removed from client. I'll keep the video up for how it used to work, it might still work for some alt coins (unsure) you will have to check those clients. Old information for this video below (NOTE: it no longer works). "This is how you solo mine with the core client. (I doubt you could get a single bitcoin solo mining this way any more (difficulty is too high) BUT you could use this knowledge to mine alt. coins since they are based on same client and difficulty will be much, much lower.) Instructions on how to solo mining with the bitcoin client: 1) Get the Bitcoin Core: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet 2) Download the entire blockchain. 3) Watch this video ;) (setgenerate true = start mining, setgenerate false = stop mining)" Thanks for watching and please feel free to subscribe!

Pettycoin: Losing Tiny Amounts of Bitcoin At Scale! [linux.conf.au 2014]

49:18
Bitcoin uses a shared ledger: currently 13GB, and fewer nodes will be able to keep up as popularity grows. This talk presents a pre-alpha implementation of an adjunct network where gateways ferry between the current bitcoin network and a new "pettycoin" network, which trades bitcoin's robustness for scalability. When complete, the result should be a network suitable for genuine microtransactions at the rate of thousands per second. Rusty Russell Rusty Russell is a Free Software hacker who created ipchains, iptables and the ACT state election software (EVACS). He wrote and currently maintains the linux kernel module code, the CCAN code repository, and the ntdb database for Samba. He maintains the linux kernel virtio code and wrote the original virtio spec, and chairs the OASIS VirtIO Technical Committee. http://linux.conf.au/schedule/30273/view_talk?day=friday
