How Blockchain Works - in 2 Minutes

02:08
What is the Blockchain? This 2 minute video explains it in a very easy way. As usual, please leave you questions and ideas in the comments. with love your MinuteVideos Team Video Script: Scene 1 Blockchain is a Peer to Peer software technology that protects the integrity of a digital piece of information. It was invented to create the alternative currency Bitcoin but may be used for other cryptocurrencies, online signature services, voting systems and many other applications. In this video we explain how it works and what makes it special. Scene 2 Everyone uses paper money. When you get a 10 dollar bill you trust that it's not fake. If instead someone sent you an email saying "here's 10 dollars" you probably wouldn’t trust it. But when we "transfer money", use an ATM or pay with a deposit card that's pretty much exactly what we do. We're sending money in a digital message. Scene 3 To make sure no one's cheating or sending money they don't have, these “messages” go through a few trusted banks that keep a record of everything. They know how much money everyone has and deduct it properly for every transaction. Scene 4 But this becomes expensive when there’s a million transactions around the world every minute. The Economist estimates that banks charged us more than 1.7 trillion dollars to process these payments in 2014. That’s about 2% of the entire world economy! With blockchain we can save a lot of this cost because it lets us send money just like sending an email. Scene 5 Instead of sending a lot of payment information through a few servers, blockchain uses thousands of personal computers on the internet. All transactions are copied and cross checked between every computer in a system wide accounting book called the ledger, which becomes very safe at scale. Scene 6 Blockchain doesn’t just allow us to create safe money online, it lets us protect any piece of digital information. This could be online Identity cards, voter ballots, contracts and many other “legal instruments”, bringing bureaucracy into the 21st century.

Understand the Blockchain in Two Minutes

02:26
Over the past decade, an alternative digital paradigm has slowly been taking shape at the edges of the internet. This new paradigm is the blockchain. After incubating through millions of Bitcoin transactions and a host of developer projects, it is now on the tips of tongues of CEOs and CTOs, startup entrepreneurs, and even governance activists. Though these stakeholders are beginning to understand the disruptive potential of blockchain technology and are experimenting with its most promising applications, few have asked a more fundamental question: What will a world driven by blockchains look like a decade from now? Using Blockchain for Supply Chains

01:57:58
As consumers, we want to know that the food we eat is safe and (in some cases, such as fine wines) that it’s provenance is authentic. We want to know with certainty that the gold, diamonds, and electronics we buy are not funding conflicts. And that the products we buy are not counterfeits. Supply chain managers want to track condition, location, and remove friction from global supply chains. Blockchain, distributed ledger technology, holds promise in solving these problems. In this session, we hear from CEOs, founders, and technology experts at the companies on the forefront of this ongoing digital transformation of the supply chain. Alex Tapscott: "Blockchain Revolution" | Talks at Google

56:39
Talks at Google in London were delighted to welcome Alex Tapscott to talk about his book Blockchain Revolution, looking at how the technology behind Bitcoin can reshape the world of business and transform the old order of human affairs for the better. Alex can be found on Twitter at: @alextapscott Book on Google Play - with free first chapter! https://play.google.com/store/books/details/Don_Tapscott_Blockchain_Revolution?id=bwz_CwAAQBAJ About the Book: The technology likely to have the greatest impact on the future of the world economy has arrived, and it's not self-driving cars, solar energy, or artificial intelligence. It’s called the blockchain. The first generation of the digital revolution brought us the Internet of information. The second generation powered by blockchain technology is bringing us the Internet of value: a new, distributed platform that can help us reshape the world of business and transform the old order of human affairs for the better. Blockchain is the ingeniously simple, revolutionary protocol that allows transactions to be simultaneously anonymous and secure by maintaining a tamperproof public ledger of value. Though it's the technology that drives bitcoin and other digital currencies, the underlying framework has the potential to go far beyond these and record virtually everything of value to humankind, from birth and death certificates to insurance claims and even votes. Why should you care? Maybe you're a music lover who wants artists to make a living off their art. And those examples are barely the tip of the iceberg. This technology is public, encrypted, and readily available for anyone to use. It's already seeing widespread adoption in a number of areas. For example, forty-two (and counting) of the world's biggest financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Credit Suisse, have formed a consortium to investigate the blockchain for speedier and more secure transactions. As with major paradigm shifts that preceded it, the blockchain will create winners and losers. And while opportunities abound, the risks of disruption and dislocation must not be ignored. About the Author: Alex Tapscott is the CEO and Founder of Northwest Passage Ventures, an advisory firm building industry-leading blockchain businesses. Formerly, Alex was a senior executive at Canaccord Genuity, Canada’s largest independent investment bank. At age 25, he became the firm’s youngest-ever Vice President and in 2014, he founded the firm’s blockchain practice. Over his career, Alex has worked tirelessly for his clients, raising hundreds of millions of dollars in growth capital from a global institutional investor base, and provided sound advice and counsel.

The Bitcoin and Blockchain Technology Explained

06:16
A block chain is a transaction database shared by all nodes participating in a system based on the Bitcoin protocol. A full copy of a currency's block chain contains every transaction ever executed in the currency. With this information, one can find out how much value belonged to each address at any point in history. ------------------------------------------------------------------- BUY BITCOIN SAFELY HERE: http://bit.ly/BuyBitcoinNow ------------------------------------------------------------------- REGISTER FOR A COINBASE ACCOUNT: http://bit.ly/CoinbaseBitcoinSignup ------------------------------------------------------------------- Every block contains a hash of the previous block. This has the effect of creating a chain of blocks from the genesis block to the current block. Each block is guaranteed to come after the previous block chronologically because the previous block's hash would otherwise not be known. Each block is also computationally impractical to modify once it has been in the chain for a while because every block after it would also have to be regenerated. These properties are what make double-spending of bitcoins very difficult. The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. Honest generators only build onto a block (by referencing it in blocks they create) if it is the latest block in the longest valid chain. "Length" is calculated as total combined difficulty of that chain, not number of blocks, though this distinction is only important in the context of a few potential attacks. A chain is valid if all of the blocks and transactions within it are valid, and only if it starts with the genesis block. For any block on the chain, there is only one path to the genesis block. Coming from the genesis block, however, there can be forks. One-block forks are created from time to time when two blocks are created just a few seconds apart. When that happens, generating nodes build onto whichever one of the blocks they received first. Whichever block ends up being included in the next block becomes part of the main chain because that chain is longer. More serious forks have occurred after fixing bugs that required backward-incompatible changes. Blocks in shorter chains (or invalid chains) are not used for anything. When the bitcoin client switches to another, longer chain, all valid transactions of the blocks inside the shorter chain are re-added to the pool of queued transactions and will be included in another block. The reward for the blocks on the shorter chain will not be present in the longest chain, so they will be practically lost, which is why a network-enforced 100-block maturation time for generations exists. These blocks on the shorter chains are often called "orphan" blocks. This is because the generation transactions do not have a parent block in the longest chain, so these generation transactions show up as orphan in the listtransactions RPC call. Several pools have misinterpreted these messages and started calling their blocks "orphans". In reality, these blocks have a parent block, and might even have children. Because a block can only reference one previous block, it is impossible for two forked chains to merge. • How do Bitcoin Transactions Work? http://www.coindesk.com/information/how-do-bitcoin-transactions-work/ ------------------------------------------------------------------- DID YOU LIKE THIS VIDEO? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Enjoy this video? INTRODUCTION TO BLOCKCHAIN Blockchain is the technology set to change the way we deal with money. With the development of this decentralized ledger system – a host of opportunities have opened up. Industries today are using blockchain technologies to increase efficiency and solve business problems associated with data privacy, security, information sharing, and inclusion. This technology can create value for business through cost-savings and efficiencies – in terms of speed and simplicity. Moreover, blockchains are set to replace the traditional banking system which makes it pertinent for the legal fraternity to understand its impact on the commercial transaction. Further, this technology could revolutionize the admissibility of evidence, negotiable instrument and Information Technology Laws. Hence, one should know how the information is generated, stored, and shared in blockchains, as well as gain tools to evaluate whether or not a blockchain solution would be suitable for their particular business case. In this course, we have tried to give the learner an overview of blockchain technology. The module covers the original scheme and impetus, the method of working, and the concept of blockchain technology. Further, this module discusses the benefits of blockchain. This course would help all the professionals to get an insight of Blockchain’s functioning along with the legal challenges that it might pose in future. [Hindi/Urdu]What is Li-Fi ? ?
