Gold and Oil are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to commodities. In this video David Jones explains what the three main groups are and what factors influence them the most. Energy, precious metals and agricultural products are what make the world function. They are its lifeblood and vital organs. Because of this importance they are actually traded often with futures, so that there is a guarantee that they will be there when needed. From politics and weather to disease and speculation, commodities are among the most volatile instruments in the financial world. Their specifics are governed by a wide range of variables and understanding what drives their prices up and down is one of the hardest challenges that traders face. Among the other more popular commodities we have silver, natural gas, wheat, orange juice, cattle. The list is actually quite long and the factors that change their price too. Whether it’s interest rates in the U.S., oil production in Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, or a insect invasion in Southeast Asia, it’s definitely an exciting world to trade in. At Trading 212 we provide an execution only service. This video should not be construed as investment advice. Investments can fall and rise. Capital at risk. CFDs are higher risk because of leverage.

Counting the Cost - The giants of commodity trading

25:21
Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe From Switzerland to the world - they are the giants of commodity trading, but can they shake off the tag of 'modern day slave masters'? This week on Counting the Cost we examine the commodities industry - the very essentials, the raw materials and resources that we simply cannot live without. These are traded all over the globe - everything from oil to copper, sugar to precious minerals. A country normally associated with great lakes, political neutrality and the Red Cross can now be associated with the global commodities industry as Switzerland is home to some of the biggest commodities companies in the world. But why has that one region out surpassed the others in the commodities business? And is it possible to regulate the globalised, multi-billion dollar companies which operate within it? At Al Jazeera English, we focus on people and events that affect people's lives. We bring topics to light that often go under-reported, listening to all sides of the story and giving a 'voice to the voiceless.' Reaching more than 270 million households in over 140 countries across the globe, our viewers trust Al Jazeera English to keep them informed, inspired, and entertained. Our impartial, fact-based reporting wins worldwide praise and respect. It is our unique brand of journalism that the world has come to rely on. Which Markets To Trade? Trading Commodities 👍

08:43
Which Markets To Trade? Trading Commodities http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/commodities/commodities-spread-betting.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! Commodities like sugar, soybean and wheat are an asset class that you may have thought out of your reach but given spread betting there might never have been a better time to start trading commodities. In these volatile times you can use spread betting, futures, options and CFDs to access commodities trading and make money out of trading them in much the same way that you do spread betting on gold or crude oil. It is also worth noting here that sugar is one of the most liquid soft commodities you could spread bet on with a bid-offer of about $1.7. Trading Commodities Finally in this short review of the markets you can trade, you can consider trading on commodities. Commodities are usually traded in large quantities, and trading volume is high, which means they are readily available, even though you may find higher spreads than with some other markets. Commodities include a whole host of items. One of the most well-known is crude oil, which actually comes in two variations, West Texas and Brent. The price of oil can be affected by many world matters. OPEC is in control, but you can find political situations where countries can reduce their output or increase it, with a corresponding effect. In fact, we don’t have many days supply of oil in store at any particular time, so the price is responsive to market impacts. Longer-term oil prices are affected by the severity of winters, increasing efficiencies, shale oil production, and demand such as that from China, with its expanding economy. Another well-known commodity that can be traded readily is gold. The price of gold has been less volatile recently than historically, but can still give opportunities. Gold is always regarded as a safe haven for cash when it seems that cash is becoming worth less and stocks and shares are in a down market. Threats of war seem to cause a rush to physical wealth such as gold. Again, you can use technical analysis techniques to anticipate possible moves. Along with gold, silver is another precious metal that has much the same characteristics, even though it is significantly cheaper than gold. If you chart gold and silver together you will quite often find they move in concert. The interesting thing is that their characteristics are very different. Most of the gold that has ever been mind is still available in some form such as jewellery. But very little of the total production of silver is still around. Silver is used in industrial processes, and was notably used extensively for photography in the last century. It gets used up, and companies that need it are always looking to buy it on the futures market in order to lock in the price. Even so, gold and silver prices tend to be in a fixed ratio over the years. There are many other commodities. All the soft commodities include the agricultural products such as corn, wheat, hogs, and cattle. Obviously these prices are seasonal and are also affected by the weather. You’ll find that the prices tend to have wider spreads than the hard goods. Whatever market you decide to trade in, you are spoiled for choice. But if you change your focus from week to week, as you find it difficult to make money in your latest slot, the danger is that you will never learn any of the markets and be unable to trade effectively. You need to focus for a time on particular markets and get to know them. Every trader has strengths and weaknesses, and in time you will find a market that is best suited to your style of trading.

Talk Africa: Africa commodities trade

29:01
Could this mark the end of the good times? Africa rode the global demand for commodities at the turn of this century to create some of the fastest economic growth figures in the world. 6 of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world were from Africa. However, a recent IMF report indicates that demand for commodities is on a decline, sending shock waves across exporting countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. So how bad is the situation, and what can be done to reduce Africa's dependence on commodities? Beatrice Marshall and her panel of experts explore this topic on this episode of Talk Africa.

Jim Rogers - How He Became a Commodities Trader

09:35
For the latest Jim Rogers, go to http://JimRogersBlog.com - In the investment business, Jim Rogers invested in everything both long and short. He came from a rural part of Alabama, but his family weren't farmers. He began investing in commodities because it looked like that was the major bull market at the time. When it was time to invest in commodities at that time, there weren't any proper indexes to invest in. Because of that, Jim Rogers had to sit down and create his own index that reflected the cost to live all around the world. Dow Jones didn't even know that they had a commodities index. You shouldn't put a penny of your money there. At times, the investment banks had huge commitments to commodities. They got out during the 80s and 90s because there was a bear market. Now they are starting to come back. The go to whatever is hot because that is what is easy to sell. In 5, 10, 15 years, they will come back to commodities in a big way. By definition, rising prices is inflation. Central banks are printing huge amounts of money all over the world. There are supply demand imbalances compounded by the central bank printing money. Who knows what will happen at the end of the bull run. At the end of bull markets, things get wild and hysteria. When prices get so extraordinarily high, that will reduce demand, and that is one of the factors that will lead to the end of the bull market. Normally, Jim Rogers has gotten out too soon, because he can see what is happening. But the prices can double very quickly at the end of a bull market. But it is the most dangerous part of the bull market. The US Dollar is a terribly flawed currency. It is going into its demise over the next couple decades. That commodities are traded in dollars will be a factor on their prices. 100 years ago commodities were traded in the Pound Sterling. But that changed, and now they are traded in the dollar. That too will change. India and China have 2.3 billion people, but their economies combined are still only a tenth of the size of the US and Western Europe. So they aren't as big of a factor right now, but that will slowly change.

He really was throwing the kitchen sink at trying to keep the market elevated. So, there were crazy swaptions on physical. I feel like crude probably the next five to 10 is up but I'm not $100 crude guy. But to me, it doesn't feel like the general market at large feels like gold is as big a barometer as it used to be. If one and a half percent growth is what we get. But we also only have one and a half percent inflation, I actually think the stock market could rally pretty strongly into that. TONY GREER: Hi, this is Tony Greer of TG Macro. I am really excited for my conversation today with Greg Agran on behalf of Real Vision. Greg is a Harvard graduate, a 26-year veteran of Goldman Sachs. When he left the firm in 2017, he was a partner, head of commodity trading. We've got a lot to talk about, and I'm excited to get started. I'm here today with my friend Greg Agran, who's a Harvard graduate, 26-year veteran of Goldman Sachs. When you left the firm in 2017, you were head of commodity trading and a partner of the firm. So, we have a lot to discuss, and I'm looking forward to getting started. GREG AGRAN: Well, thanks for having me. TONY GREER: We may as well get started right at the beginning, because I like to see where trader brains like yours get started. So, why Harvard and how has that impacted your life today? GREG AGRAN: I think we came from similar backgrounds. I grew up in Central New Jersey, public school. You don't really know what you're capable of. And when I was applying, I didn't think I was capable of getting into a place like Harvard, but I was lucky enough to have a coach. He had a nephew that had gone to Harvard. And he was really passionate about me trying to lift my goals a little bit. And he convinced me to apply there. And I had a great trip. There were a lot more what I would call normal guys than my impression was what a place like Harvard would have. I stayed with this awesome guy from Melrose, Massachusetts. It was just like salt of the earth, Bostonian type. And once I came back from that trip, I'm like, I'm going to Harvard. It's what you know. Great opportunity. Great guys. TONY GREER: Yeah. Are you still involved with the network today? GREG AGRAN: Oh, yeah. Like I'm pretty involved with the Friends of Harvard Baseball, which is alumni group that helps try to keep raising money so that they can do cool trips in the spring and pay for the things that the school doesn't pay for. And, yeah, I'm pretty involved with the Harvard community at large. I have a couple scholarships outstanding there and a few cool things. It was a really big formative part of the early years for me. TONY GREER: That got you punching above your weight class at a young age.

Commodities are the basic building blocks of the global economy, and as such are hugely important. Commodities refer to primary goods such as wheat, gold or oil, and are traded on dedicated exchanges around the world. They are often influential components of the financial markets, so understanding how they are priced, and how they are traded, is extremely important. Hedging in Commodities and How it Works🌱

07:14
Hedging in commodities and how it works. http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/dealing-handbook.php PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! How does hedging actually work? Commodity markets were originally invented to permit producers of commodities to hedge their exposure to the fluctuating price of a commodity. So if you have a consumer who was consuming a product no one really cares about him. It is the producer that needs to be looked after and protected. Granted the end consumer might have to pay a little bit more for his, say, cornflakes but that's not the end of the world. On the other hand if producers don't have any incentive to keep producing a commodity or if they're very vulnerable to price fluctuations in the commodity they might stop producing that commodity altogether. So futures exchange came about to allow producers to hedge their produce. Let's suppose a soybeans farmer expects to produce 500,000 bushels and her breakeven price is $10 per bushel. Now 1 Futures contract is equivalent to 5000 bushels The current price of soybeans for the expiry that she wants is $13 per bushel. If she wanted to lock that price of $13 per bushel she would sell (i.e. short) 100 futures contracts at $13. Some farmers are little bit more risk-seeking - they will try to time the market so they will become speculators in their own right.

Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, which are the seeds of berries from the Coffea plant. The genus Coffea is native to tropical Africa, and Madagascar, the Comoros, Mauritius and Réunion in the Indian Ocean.[2] The plant was exported from Africa to countries around the world and coffee plants are now cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of the Americas, Southeast Asia, India, and Africa. The two most commonly grown are the highly regarded arabica, and the less sophisticated but stronger and more hardy robusta. Once ripe, coffee berries are picked, processed, and dried. Dried coffee seeds (referred to as beans) are roasted to varying degrees, depending on the desired flavor. Roasted beans are ground and brewed with near boiling water to produce coffee as a beverage. Coffee is slightly acidic and can have a stimulating effect on humans because of its caffeine content. Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world.[3] It can be prepared and presented in a variety of ways (e.g., espresso, French press, cafe latte, etc.). It is usually served hot, although iced coffee is also served. Clinical studies indicate that moderate coffee consumption is benign or mildly beneficial in healthy adults, with continuing research on whether long-term consumption inhibits cognitive decline during aging or lowers the risk of some forms of cancer.[4][5] The earliest credible evidence of coffee-drinking appears in the middle of the 15th century in the Sufi shrines of Yemen.[6] It was here in Arabia that coffee seeds were first roasted and brewed in a similar way to how it is now prepared. Coffee seeds were first exported from East Africa to Yemen, as the coffea arabica plant is thought to have been indigenous to the former.[7] Yemeni traders took coffee back to their homeland and began to cultivate the seed. By the 16th century, it had reached Persia, Turkey, and North Africa. From there, it spread to Europe and the rest of the world. Coffee is a major export commodity: it is the top agricultural export for numerous countries and is among the world's largest legal agricultural exports.[3][8] It is one of the most valuable commodities exported by developing countries. Green (unroasted) coffee is one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world.[9] Some controversy is associated with coffee cultivation and the way developed countries trade with developing nations and the impact of its cultivation on the environment, in regards to clearing of land for coffee-growing and water use. Consequently, the markets for fair trade coffee and organic coffee are expanding

China Play: Short-Term This Is The Best Commodities Move

The best metal to own to weather the trade wars storm is still gold, owing to its status as a safe haven and the potential for industrial metals to suffer from the economic consequences of tariffs, this according to Peter Hug, global trading director of Kitco Metals. “Given the current state of sort of the macro picture that I’m looking at right now, I still consider gold the best performer short-term. If there were to be a reversal in, sort of the rhetoric regarding China and ideally the tariffs don’t go to 25% and stay at 10%, I would be then much more aggressively inclined towards metals such as palladium and platinum,” Hug told Kitco News. _________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the world’s #1 source of metals market information. The Silk Road and Ancient Trade: Crash Course World History #9

10:31
The Silk Road and Ancient Trade: In which John Green teaches you about the so-called Silk Road, a network of trade routes where goods such as ivory, silver, iron, wine, and yes, silk were exchanged across the ancient world, from China to the West. Along with all these consumer goods, things like disease and ideas made the trip as well. As is his custom, John ties the Silk Road to modern life, and the ways that we get our stuff today. The deceptive promise of free trade | DW Documentary

42:26
Global trade is a hot topic of the G7 summit in Canada. Is free trade truly free - and fair? What roles do US President Trump, economic powerhouse China, and the EU play in global trade? When it comes to global trade, it would seem that trickery, threats and deception are the order of the day - yet all this takes place largely beyond the reach of the public eye. Donald Trump has made "America First” his agenda and rallying cry. Along with aiming sharp criticism at global export champion Germany, Trump has also introduced punitive tariffs and warned of further measures. Will this fresh wave of protectionism lead to economic isolationism and threaten global free trade? And what about those for whom free trade’s promise of prosperity increasingly rings hollow? Around the world, many people have come to regard themselves as the losers of globalization. If the true winners of free trade and globalization are not ordinary citizens, has the time come to revise the liberal orthodoxy of free trade? This documentary visits Germany, Switzerland, the United States and Cameroon to explore these issues by way of some everyday examples, including the trade in onions, floor tiles, and bicycles. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Commodities Trading

05:13
http://profitabletradingtips.com/trading-investing/commodities-trading Commodities Trading By www.ProfitableTradingTips.com As currencies fall in value commodities appear to rise. In fact, commodities such as gold, oil, and agriculture products simply retain their value in the face of inflation and currency devaluation. Those engaged in commodities trading know that fact. Traders engaged in commodities trading also know that supply and demand, the fundamentals, are basic to commodity prices. Those who wish to profit from commodities trading learn technical analysis. This is the analysis of past price movement with the purpose of predicting future price movement. One trades commodities in a futures market. Traders enter into contracts to buy or sell specified quantities of a given commodity on a specified future date. To profit from commodities trading one needs a firm grasp of the fundamentals that determine pricing and a clear sense of how the market reacts to changes in information. Commodity Futures Futures are standardized contracts between two parties to buy or sell a specific, standardized, amount of virtually anything. The price is agreed upon at the time of the contract and holds until the date of delivery. Most futures traders do not actually sell or buy commodities as they simply exit the contract by making the opposite trade prior to the delivery date. Although the price set in the futures contract for corn, beef, oil, gold, or other commodities is set the value of the contract varies and that is where the profit lies in commodities trading. In today's world online commodities trading is common. Traders follow the news pertinent to the value of gold, cattle, or wheat. They follow pricing patterns in order to understand evolving market sentiment. Depending on the perceived changes in supply and demand the value of a commodity futures contract will rise or fall. In commodities trading one can buy or sell a contract for crude oil that is not deliverable for a decade but still make profits today. The trader simply seeks to enter and exit the trade at the most profitable times. Many traders use options in commodity trading. In doing so, they limit their risk and often leverage their investment capital. Futures Markets The following is a list of United States Futures exchanges: CBOE Futures Exchange (CFE) Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) Chicago Climate Exchange (CCE) ELX Futures (Electronic Liquidity Exchange) ICE Futures U.S. Kansas City Board of Trade (KCBT) Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGEX) Nadex (formerly HedgeStreet) NASDAQ OMX Futures Exchange (NFX) New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and (COMEX) NYSE Liffe US OneChicago, LLC (Single-stock futures (SSF's) and Futures on ETFs) The CME group owns CME, CBOT, NYMEX, and COMEX. Predicting the Future Will there be a drought in Eurasia, Brazil, or North America? These are the world bread baskets for wheat, corn, and soybeans. Will overly strong monsoon rains or a persistent drought affect the rice harvests in Southern Asia? Commodities trading in these foodstuffs requires a clear sense of what will affect supply and demand. Gold goes up when currencies falter or war threatens and oil goes up when there is unrest in the Middle East or a hurricane approaching the Gulf of Mexico. In commodities trading, traders keep an eye on the facts and the other eye on how the market is reacting. Timing the market as a day trader in commodities trading is also important, especially important news breaks. What is COMMODITIES EXCHANGE? What does COMMODITIES EXCHANGE mean?

02:00
What is COMMODITIES EXCHANGE? What does COMMODITIES EXCHANGE mean? COMMODITIES EXCHANGE meaning - COMMODITIES EXCHANGE definition - COMMODITIES EXCHANGE explanation. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A commodities exchange is an exchange where various commodities and derivatives products are traded. Most commodity markets across the world trade in agricultural products and other raw materials (like wheat, barley, sugar, maize, cotton, cocoa, coffee, milk products, pork bellies, oil, metals, etc.) and contracts based on them. These contracts can include spot prices, forwards, futures and options on futures. Other sophisticated products may include interest rates, environmental instruments, swaps, or ocean freight contracts. Commodities exchanges usually trade futures contracts on commodities, such as trading contracts to receive something, say corn, in a certain month. A farmer raising corn can sell a future contract on his corn, which will not be harvested for several months, and guarantee the price he will be paid when he delivers; a breakfast cereal producer buys the contract now and guarantees the price will not go up when it is delivered. This protects the farmer from price drops and the buyer from price rises. Speculators and investors also buy and sell the futures contracts in attempt to make a profit and provide liquidity to the system. However, due to the financial leverage provided to traders by the exchange, commodity futures traders face a substantial risk.
