The Touchstone of Theology (Comparative Study / Hinduism) !! Dr.Zakir Naik (Urdu)

09:02
Concept of God in Islam : INTRODUCTION Islam is a Semitic religion, which has over one billion adherents all over the world. Islam means "submission to the will of God". Muslims accept the Qur'an, as the word of God revealed to His last and final prophet, Mohammed (peace be upon him). Islam states that Allah sent messengers and prophets throughout the ages with the message of Unity of God, and accountability in the Hereafter. Islam thus makes it an article of faith to believe in all the earlier prophets, starting with Adam, and continuing withNoah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, John and Jesus amongst many others (may peace be on them all). The Most Concise Definition of God: The most concise definition of God in Islam is given in the four verses of Surah Ikhlas which is Chapter 112 of the Qur'an: "Say: He is Allah, The One and Only. "Allah, the Eternal, Absolute. "He begets not, nor is He begotten. And there is none like unto Him." [Al-Qur'an 112:1-4] The word 'Assamad' is difficult to translate. It means 'absolute existence', which can be attributed only to Allah (swt), all other existence being temporal or conditional. It also means that Allah (swt) is not dependant on any person or thing, but all persons and things are dependant on Him. Surah Ikhlas - the touchstone of theology: Surah Ikhlas (Chapter 112) of the Glorious Qur'an, is the touchstone of theology. 'Theo' in Greek means God and 'logy' means study. Thus Theology means study of God and to Muslims this four line definition of Almighty God serves as the touchstone of the study of God. Any candidate to divinity must be subjected to this 'acid test'. Since the attributes of Allah given in this chapter are unique, false gods and pretenders to divinity can be easily dismissed using these verses. What does Islam say about 'god-men'? ......... A Comparative Analysis of Ayahuasca Healing in Amazonia and Australia - Alex Gearin

27:12
http://psychedelicscience.org Help us caption and translate this video on Amara.org:‪ ‬http://www.amara.org/en/videos/hAaNS79GQbbB/info/ A Comparative Analysis of Ayahuasca Healing in Amazonia and Australia Alex Gearin, PhD (C) Over the last few decades the Amazonian psychoactive brew ayahuasca has undergone a rapid and quickening process of globalization. While there have not been many studies dedicated to comprehending indigenous Amazonian uses of ayahuasca, anthropologists tend to understand indigenous ayahuasca practices as being embedded in broader Amazonian ontological perspectives or ways of relating to the world. With a focus on notions of health, this talk undertakes a comparative analysis of basic principles of indigenous Amazonian ayahuasca practice in contrast to various cosmological postulates of ayahuasca use in Australian society. The analysis draws on personal fieldwork undertaken in Australian ayahuasca circles during 2011 and 2012 along with seminal ethnographies on the use of ayahuasca in indigenous Amazonia. Questions that will be explored include the instability of identity and personhood, notions of illness and wellbeing, and the encounter between humans and spirits or discarnate entities. Alex Gearin is currently a Ph.D. candidate in anthropology at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. His dissertation research involves a multi-sited ethnographic study of ayahuasca culture in Australia with a focus on health and cosmology. His B.A. thesis, written at La Trobe University, explores discourse on Amerindian ontology and the Upper Amazonian social contexts of discarnate entities encountered through the use of ayahuasca. Additional research interests include the anthropology of sorcery and witchcraft, post-colonialism, drug policy, and globalization. What is Linguistics? | Definition and Branches of Linguistics

03:09
What is Linguistics? | Definition and Branches of Linguistics: Linguistics is the scientific study of language, specifically language form, language meaning, and language in context. Linguistics is that particular science which studies the origin, organization, nature and development of language descriptively, historically, comparatively, explicitly and formulates the general rules related to language. Now, let’s discuss some of the branches of linguistics. General linguistics is a study of the phenomena, historical changes, and functions of language without restriction to a particular language or to a particular aspect of language such as phonetics, grammar and stylistics. Descriptive linguistics is the work of objectively analyzing and describing how language is actually used (or how it was used in the past) by a group of people in a speech community. It deals with a particular language in a specific time and in a specific community. Diachronic linguistics is also called historical linguistics. It is the scientific study of language change over time. It studies language change, history of words, history of speech communities and develops general theories about how and why language changes. Comparative linguistics is a branch of historical linguistics that is concerned with comparing languages to establish their historical relatedness. It compares two languages and establishes relationships between them. This comparison is generally done between the languages which are related to each other. Theoretical linguistics studies language to construct theories of their structure and functions. It is not concerned with practical applications. Applied linguistics studies language to apply the concepts and findings of linguistics to practical tasks including English language teaching. It covers both general and descriptive linguistics. Phonetics is a branch of linguistics that comprises the study of the sounds of human speech. It is concerned with the physical properties of speech sounds or sign, their physiological production, acoustic properties, auditory perception, and NEUROPHYSIOLOGICAL STATUS. Phonology, on the other hand, is concerned with the abstract and grammatical characterization of systems of sounds or signs. It has traditionally focused largely on the study of the systems of phonemes in particular languages (and therefore used to be also called PHONEMICS or PHONEMATICS. MORPHOLOGY is the study of words, how they are formed, and their relationship to other words in the same language. It analyzes the structure of words and parts of words, such as stems, root words, prefixes, and suffixes. ........................................................................... Study of Comparative Public Administration | Hindi & Urdu

11:41
Basic Concept of Comparative Public Administration | Hindi & Urdu COMPARATIVE PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION - DEFINITION: Comparative public administration is defined as the study of administrative systems in a comparative fashion or the study of public administration in other countries.Another definition for "comparative public administration" is the "quest for patterns and regularities in administrative action and behavior". It looks to test the effectiveness of the Classical Theorists' (Fayol,Taylor,Urwick, etc) Principles of Administration effectiveness on a universal level(different political and administrative setups in developing and developed countries and their ecology) as well as develop a comparative theory of Public Administration. It is a very significant area of study in Public Administration as it helps in understanding Administrative setups and their functioning in various settings and societies/countries and what works and why it works. Also,it helps improvise administrative systems making them more efficient together with helping in adding and improvising the already existing literature/theories of Public Administration thus leading to a strong and practical theory of the subject with the help of practical experiments and analysis. 2016 Michael H Heim Memorial Lecture on Translation & Translation Studies

01:13:18
The Michael Henry Heim Memorial Lecture in Translation and Translation Studies is an annual lecture in memory of Michael Heim to continue his legacy. Professor Heim was a pioneer in translation studies, which is now an area of considerable significance to the field of comparative literature. He is remembered by his colleagues, students and friends as a world-class scholar, a model pedagogue and a devoted mentor, generous in his commitment to a communication and understanding across languages and cultures, giving pride of place to translation. In her lecture, “Transnational vs. National Literature” Dubravka Ugrešić addresses what it means to be a (woman) writer writing in a minor language, and coming from a minor literary zone. She explores the concept and practices of national literature, her own exit into exile, and the implications of that condition. Ugrešić gives pride of place to translation, and discusses her views on the opposition between transnational and national literatures. While she favors a concept of transnational literature she develops in this lecture, she does not embrace the widespread practices of “corporate literature”. The true home for a good literature, according to Ugrešić, is somewhere else. This event was organized by the UCLA Department of Comparative Literature, with support from the UCLA Department of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Languages and Cultures and the UCLA Center for European and Eurasian Studies.

During the 4th dynasty of the Pharaohs in Egypt, nearly 5000 years ago, a people emerged from the mists of pre-history to complete the most ambitious and spectacular undertaking ever attempted by mankind. An incredible feat characterized by ingenious design, resourceful technique, and above all, the labor of tens of thousands of men who contributed with their bare hands to creating these colossal tombs for their Pharaohs. We look at the construction of Khufu, which, tall as a 40 story building, is the largest pyramid in the Nile Valley. Part 2 starts at 21:40 and looks at Ancient Aztec Pyramids. Translating Poetry in the Age of Prose

01:25:25
Professor of English and Comparative Literature Randa Aboubakr delivered the first lecture of the Fall 2012 In Translation Series. In her lecture, "Translating Poetry in the Age of Prose," she focused on the translatability and the importance of translating poetry. She explored different strategies of translation -- homophonic, mimetic, and analogical -- and translating "poetry in prose." The complexity of translating poetry, she observed, is reflected in the need to create a balance between the hidden meanings of a poem and the structural form of poetry as a genre. Aboubakr discussed the challenges of translating poetry in a field increasingly dominated by prose, the role of translators as "couriers of culture," and the politics of translation. She concluded that more attention should be given to translating poetry in the age of blogs, Facebook, and Twitter, which she called today's "little epics."

Vigillo PSP Converter

12:23
Vigillo is excited to deliver the industry's first and only PSP converter. This new tool allows you to translate FMCSA Pre-Employment Screening Program (or PSP) Reports into meaningful CSA Analysis. Nothing on the FMCSA PSP report provides CSA scores, points, or BASIC performance. In the new CSA-centric world, it is critical that carriers not only run PSP reports, but are able to translate the data on a PSP report into a meaningful CSA Analysis. The Vigillo PSP Converter accomplishes this for you -- quickly and easily. How it works: You run FMCSA's PSP report and receive a PDF file as the output. The Vigillo PSP Converter scans that report and applies the CSA methodology to the data and instantly creates a CSA Scorecard for that driver, Vigillo-style. You can process batches of PSP reports and the Vigillo PSP Converter will also rank all drivers in that batch using CSA points. It takes just seconds to run a comparative analysis on all of your driver candidates using CSA as the benchmark. Learn more at http://www.vigillo.com/converter.html

The Epic of Gilgamesh, Lecture by Andrew George

01:28:46
Andrew George, Professor of Babylonian, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London The Epic of Gilgamesh is a 4,000-year-old Mesopotamian poem about a hero who embarks on an arduous quest to find the secret of immortality. Preserved on clay tablets in cuneiform script, it is generally considered to be the earliest great work of literature to survive from the ancient world. In this illustrated lecture, Andrew George, author of a prize-winning translation of the Epic of Gilgamesh, explores four themes related to this Babylonian masterpiece: the archaeology of the poem’s recovery, the reconstruction of its text, the story it tells, and its messages about life and death. Presented in collaboration with the Departments of Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations and Comparative Literature, with the support of the Provostial Fund for the Arts and Humanities, Harvard University
