Poverty is general scarcity or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. It is a multifaceted concept, which includes social, economic, and political elements. Absolute poverty or destitution refers to the lack of means necessary to meet basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter.[2] Absolute poverty is meant to be the same independent of location. Relative poverty occurs when people in a country do not enjoy a certain minimum level of living standards as compared to the rest of the population and so would vary from country to country, sometimes within the same country. Employment is a relationship between two parties, usually based on a contract where work is paid for, where one party, which may be a corporation, for profit, not-for-profit organization, co-operative or other entity is the employer and the other is the employee. Employees work in return for payment, which may be in the form of an hourly wage, by piecework or an annual salary, depending on the type of work an employee does or which sector she or he is working in. Employees in some fields or sectors may receive gratuities, bonus payment or stock options. In some types of employment, employees may receive benefits in addition to payment. Benefits can include health insurance, housing, disability insurance or use of a gym. Employment is typically governed by employment laws or regulations or legal contracts. The unemployment rate is a measure of the prevalence of unemployment and it is calculated as a percentage by dividing the number of unemployed individuals by all individuals currently in the labor force. During periods of recession, an economy usually experiences a relatively high unemployment rate. According to International Labour Organization report, more than 200 million people globally or 6% of the world's workforce were without a job in 2012. There remains considerable theoretical debate regarding the causes, consequences, and solutions for unemployment. Classical economics, new classical economics, and the Austrian School of economics argue that market mechanisms are reliable means of resolving unemployment. These theories argue against interventions imposed on the labor market from the outside such, as unionization, bureaucratic work rules, minimum wage laws, taxes, and other regulations that they claim discourage the hiring of workers. Keynesian economics emphasizes the cyclical nature of unemployment and recommends government interventions in the economy that it claims will reduce unemployment during recessions. This theory focuses on recurrent shocks that suddenly reduce aggregate demand for goods and services and thus reduce demand for workers. Keynesian models recommend government interventions designed to increase demand for workers; these can include financial stimuli, publicly funded job creation, and expansionist monetary policies. Its namesake economist John Maynard Keynes, believed that the root cause of unemployment is the desire of investors to receive more money rather than produce more products, which is not possible without public bodies producing new money. It’s a complex topic, with lots of variables, most importantly the employee's exempt or non-exempt status. 00:50 So who's exempt and who's non-exempt? Exempt employees are "exempt" from—meaning they’re not subject to—the minimum wage and overtime pay requirements of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, or FLSA. 01:04 To be exempt, employees must be bona fide executive, administrative, professional, outside sales, or computer employees. The law contains additional tests, including a salary test, to determine whether employees are exempt. 01:20 Under the salary test, to be exempt, an employee generally must be paid a weekly salary that is above the minimum threshold amount contained in the law. 01:29 So, once you've established who's exempt, do you have to pay these employees when you shut down for weather reasons? Usually, yes. In most cases, exempt employees must be paid their full salary if they perform any work during a work week. 01:44 01:44 However, if your business remains open during bad weather, and an exempt employee chooses not to report, you may deduct the day's pay from that person's paycheck, but only for full-day absences. If an exempt employee performs any work at all, he or she must be paid for the day. 02: 02 What about non-exempt employees? These are workers who are protected by the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the FLSA, and who are usually paid on an hourly basis. 02:14 Generally, non-exempt employees are paid only for time worked, meaning they do not have to be paid if the worksite is closed for bad weather. 02:21 Some state laws and regulations require employers to pay employees for showing up—even if there is no work that can be performed (such as when the office is closed) or the employee is sent home early (for instance, due to an impending storm). 02:37 These laws, often referred to as "reporting-time-pay" laws, may apply to specific industries or certain employees only, so check with your state labor department for exact details. State law may also protect workers from being disciplined for failing to report to work during events such as road closures and declared states of emergency. 02:57 Again, check with your state labor department to learn which of these laws apply to you. 03:02 Recognizing that weather is beyond our control, some employers choose options that don’t financially penalize employees for closings. These alternatives include paying employees at their regular rate for time lost due to weather. Or the employer will allow the employee to use personal or vacation time, or to make up time or lost shifts. 03:23 Another choice that makes the closure easier on the employee is to arrange for the employee to work from home for full pay. If you chose the work-from-home option, make sure you make it clear how much work should be produced, and whether and how the employee must be available to supervisors, colleagues, clients, customers, and others during the day. 03:44 Winter storm pay policies and work options should be outlined as part of an overall inclement weather policy, which should also include information on how employees will be notified of closures. # Employment / Work-based visa options Hello, my name is Matt Curtis and I'm an associate attorney here at Lightman Law Firm. Specialized in working with companies and with individuals to navigate the employment-based immigration process. It's worth noting at the outset that each of the options I'll be discussing have specific and limited validity periods. It's also worth noting that these options all have employment-based green card counterparts for those looking for more permanent or long-term solutions. # H-1B The most common and widely known option for those looking to work in the U.S. is the H-1B visa. The H-1B is for individuals who have secured a job offer in a specialty occupation. The specialty occupation is a role that requires the application of a specialized body of knowledge only attainable through completion of a bachelors degree or its equivalent. Whether or not a position qualifies as a specialty occupation requires careful analysis of an individual's degree, education, work history...as well as the business operations of the employer. # Country-specific specialty occupation options There are also certain country-specific specialty occupation options. For example, the E-3 visa is available to citizens of Australia, and the H-1B1 visa is available to citizens of Chile and Singapore. There's also the TN visa, which is based on the North American Free Trade Agreement. (NAFTA) While the TN and the H-1B share certain similarities, rather than the job being in a specialty occupation, TN applicants must have secured a job that is one of the specific enumerated TN professions. # L-1 visa Individuals currently working abroad at a company with a U.S. counterpart should consider the L-1 visa. The L-1 is for individuals who have been working in an executive, managerial, or specialized knowledge capacity for their foreign employer for at least one year. If the employer has a branch, subsudiary, or affiliate, the individual may enter the U.S. to continue working in such a capacity. It's also an option if the individual is seeking to open a new branch, subsidiary, or affiliate for their foreign employer. # E-2 treaty investor visa Finally, there's the E-2 treaty investor visa. The E-2 allows entrepreneurs to enter the U.S., to develop and direct an enterprise that they have invested in. We look forward to speaking to you about your specific immigration goals. Type the CAPTCHA correctly Tick on the required options. Check all before click on SUBMIT. Then you will receive a temporary EB Registration number. (2) Validation of Temporary EB Registration ID After successfulregistration in Employment Bank website you will receive a confirmation screen containing a temporary EB Registration ID/Username, then you have to take a printout of this page in a A4 page and visit nearest Employment Exchange with all the required documents in original and self-attested (mentioned below). After verifying your documents they will make the temporary EB-ID/Username permanent & will provide a password for your Employment Bank profile. Also you may receive a SMS containing the Username & Password. Then You can login your profile at Employment Bank's website with this login credentials. With that, I wanted to highlight three things you need to think about when leaving your day job to become self-employed. ***Retaining Your Health Insurance*** First up is something that really came to the forefront when my wife and I were making our decision and that is maintaining your health insurance. Since the Affordable Care Act requires the majority of business to offer group health insurance plans to their employees, there's a good chance this is currently how you're covered. Unfortunately, this means that walking away from your day job likely also means walking away from your insurance. While COBRA is an option for extending your current coverage, this can be quite expensive, requiring your to cover 102% of the premium. Thankfully, among other options, you are likely still able to sign up for health insurance using HealthCare.gov or state-run exchanges. Although open enrollment is now closed, leaving your job does count as a qualifying life event that enables a special enrollment period. You may even be eligible for a subsidy on your premium depending on your projected income. Given the importance of health insurance, the high price of some premiums, and the still in effect penalty for non-coverage, you'll definitely want to price out plans before turning in your two weeks' notice. ***Planning Your Home Office*** Next, if you plan on working out of your home, you'll want to ensure that you have all of the tools and the space you'll need to be productive throughout the day Personally, having a desk to head to each morning is an important part of keeping myself on task and getting things done. While fancier or trendier desks can easily get pricey, a $100 model from Target does the job for me. Instead, one of the investments I made when beginning why self-employed career was a reliable desktop computer. Meanwhile, with my wife's upcoming job requiring both travel and video creation, we recently shelled out for a fast laptop that can handle video editing. While these costs can be a bit steep — especially when you're just getting started — hopefully they'll pay off in the form of productivity, which in turn translates to more money. Another thing to note is that, if you plan on taking a home office deduction, you will need a dedicated room. Keep this in mind in mind when planning out workspace arrangement. ***Taxes, Expenses, and Other Finances*** While we're on the subject of deductions, there's a lot to consider regarding your finances when you're self-employed, including taxes, expense tracking, and more While self-employment can change your commute and lifestyle for the better, not all of the changes to your finances are so great. For example, business owners may be required to pay quarterly estimated taxes instead of just filing each April like you likely do now. Moreover, self-employed individuals will need to pay the full FICA taxes whereas half of these contribution expenses are covered by employers. However, to offset these downsides, freelancers and other self-employed workers can write off a number of business expenses. In order to do this, you'll want to keep track of what you're spending on your business so you can itemize your deductions. To help with this, I'd recommend using bookkeeping software such as Quickbooks Self-Employed that will make it easy to keep your personal and business expenses straight. Finally, self-employment may not be viewed so favorably by potential lenders. Therefore, if you plan on making a large purchase such as a house in the near future, you may want to look into how your work status may affect your approval odds. Hopefully this list of considerations doesn't dissuade you from pursuing self-employment but does help you prepare you for the transition and help you succeed.

From clocking in and out to running reports and viewing their personal accrued time, this tutorial teaches employees how to utilize their employee options that are allowed by the main administrator. "In this video I will provide instructions on how your employees can use TimeClick. First, we’ll cover clocking in and out. As an employee, your name will be listed on the main screen of TimeClick. There are two ways you can find your name. The first is simply picking it out of the list of employees. The second is using the Quick Search. This can be useful if there is a large number of employees or if the display is off. If you found your name in the list, double click on it and enter your password. With the Quick Search, type in your name or ID and password in the fields provided. Both methods will bring you to the same small window. This window shows your current status. Below are the clock actions you may take. TimeClick will default to the next action that must be taken so because Sarah is already clocked in, the Clock Out option will already be marked. You may also leave a comment for the administrator. When you are ready to clock in or out, click OK. To access your Employee Options, click on or search for your name, enter your password. In this window, select Launch Employee Options in the top right corner. The next window will first show you your messages. In this tab you can send and manage messages sent within TimeClick. You can also submit time requests to the administrator here. The Dashboard shows your Approaching Overtime report. Select a date to view how close to Overtime you were on that day based on a threshold set by the administrator. By default this report will show you the day of the week you are currently on. In the view hours tab, use the drop down menu to select the type of report you would like to run. Select the beginning and ending date to review. Navigate between pay periods using this navigation tool. Set the information you would like to view on the report in the Hours Report Settings. You can also adjust the font size if needed. To run the report, click Generate Report. A PDF of the report will open in a new window. This can be saved, emailed, or printed. In View Accrued Time, you can view the current accrued hours you still have available and the rates at which your time accrues. On the right side of the window, use the drop down Include Hour types to select which types of accrued hours you would like to see in your Accrued time report. Below, use the drop down Date Range to select which month and year to view. From here you can also Print the report or submit a time request to the Administrator. To change your password, enter the Settings tab. When you click Change Password, enter your current password then type a new one. Confirm it and click OK. In the Admin Privileges, if you have been granted restricted admin privileges, select Launch Restricted Admin Mode. In this mode you will be able to view the options granted by the main administrator. These options may range from Modifying times to running reports for other employees.
