Human Population Through Time

06:25
It took 200,000 years for our human population to reach 1 billion—and only 200 years to reach 7 billion. But growth has begun slowing, as women have fewer babies on average. When will our global population peak? And how can we minimize our impact on Earth’s resources, even as we approach 11 billion? #humans #population #humanevolution #overpopulation Download the video in HD: http://media.amnh.org/sciencebulletins/AMNH_HumanPopulation_DOWNLOAD.mp4 Related content: Population Connection http://worldpopulationhistory.org/map/1/mercator/1/0/25/ UN World Population Prospects https://esa.un.org/unpd/wpp/ Real-time population counter http://www.worldometers.info/world-population/ NASA EarthData https://earthdata.nasa.gov NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu Video credits: Writer/Producer AMNH/L. How to create a dynamic map chart with drop-down (works with ANY Excel version)

17:34
Create a simple but effective Excel Dynamic Map Chart with drop-down. Also Conditionally formats the largest values on the map for improved readability. Learn how to create a simple but impressive dynamic map chart that enables you to visualize specific KPI's by geography. This method doesn't use the relatively new Bing map feature, so it is works on all Excel versions. The technique shown uses a scatter plot first to set up the respective points on the map and then turns it into a bubble chart to be able to visualize the actual KPI. I also show you how you can conditionally format specific data points to bring the attention to certain categories. In this case I conditionally format the largest data point in the chart in a different color than the rest. This technique is really simple but has a very powerful effect. It makes the difference between a "nice" Excel dashboard to a "great" Excel dashboard. All it takes is 3 minutes of your time. Stephen Hawking’s 7 Predictions of Earth’s Demise in the Next 200 Years

11:01
What will happen to our planet in the next 200 years? The most famous scientist since Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, who has made profound and inspiring discoveries, predicted an extremely dark and pessimistic future to the Earth and its inhabitants. Here are some of Hawking’s most terrifying predictions on how and when our world will meet its demise. Since scientists started toying with genetically engineered viruses to treat human illnesses, they’ve also discovered other possible uses for them. Nowadays, pharmacists are even combining several deadly viruses into a single shot and doing some weird stuff with DNA mixing. Hawking was a firm believer in extraterrestrial life, and he was convinced that they will eventually invade our planet. And no, unfortunately, they probably won’t come in peace. In his final work, A Smooth Exit from Eternal Inflation, completed just two weeks before he died, Hawking predicted that our universe will eventually fade into darkness as all the stars run out of energy. Although Hawking's life basically depended on artificial intelligence, he didn't trust it at all. He once said that it might just be “the worst invention in the history of our civilization” because it’ll probably replace humans altogether. Hawking added that global warming will make the conditions on Earth similar to those on Venus. To save ourselves from problems like overpopulation (and the scarcity of resources that comes with it), pandemics, and pollution, we have to discover new worlds and become a multi-planetary species. Music: Diamond Ortiz - Crock Pot Gonna Onyekwe - Destination Unknown Doug Maxwell/Media Right Productions - Hipsters Hopping Doug Maxwell - Light Years Away William Rosati - Rounds Francis Preve- Stranger Danger https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Genetically modified vaccines will backfire on us. 1:04 Aliens will invade our planet. 2:36 The Universe will come to an end. 3:52 Robots will replace humans. 4:21 Nuclear weapons will destroy humanity. 5:32 We'll need to find another planet to live on. 6:03 The Earth will combust into a ball of fire. 9:17 SUMMARY -We still don't fully understand the long-term damage genetically engineered vaccine concoctions might have. -Chances are that cosmic beings will find our floating rock in space and they’ll most likely want to either destroy us or study us like lab rats. -Hawking predicted that our universe will eventually fade into darkness as all the stars run out of energy. -The scientist believed that artificial intelligence could eventually outsmart and outperform humans or, worse, decide to get rid of us. -The development of militarized technology and weapons of mass destruction could lead us to disastrous consequences, which would mean the end of our world. -According to Hawking, we have to find another planet to live on within the next 100 years. Otherwise, we’ll die out as a species because Earth has already reached “the point of no return”. -Global warming will make the conditions on Earth similar to those on Venus. The average temperature will be about 480°F. Our planet will burst into flames in less than 600 years. By mid-century there will likely be 9 billion people on the planet, consuming ever more resources and leading ever more technologically complex lives. What will our cities be like? How will we eat in the future of Earth? Will global warming trigger catastrophic changes, or will we be able to engineer our way out of the world climate crisis? In the future world demographic changes will certainly be dramatic. Rockefeller University mathematical biologist Joel Cohen says it's likely that by 2050 the majority of the people in the world and USA will live in urban areas of the earth, and will have a significantly higher average age than people today. The Map of Chemistry

12:58
The entire field of chemistry summarised in 12mins from simple atoms to the molecules that keep you alive. This video was sponsored by The Great Courses Plus, start your free trial and help out this channel here http://ow.ly/crsQ30beNOZ If you would like to buy a poster of this map, they are available here: https://www.redbubble.com/people/dominicwalliman/works/26426671-the-map-of-chemistry I have also made a version available for educational use which you can find here: https://flic.kr/p/UBS4mf and a widescreen version: https://flic.kr/p/UNA1LW Errata and notes: 1. I got the Oxidising Agent and the Reducing Agent the wrong way around! Sodium is the Reducing agent and Chlorine is the Oxidising agent. My confusion was that when a sodium atom looses an electron it becomes oxidised, so in my simple brain, I called it the oxidising agent. That is wrong because the agent that oxidises the sodium is the chlorine atom and so the labels are the wrong way around. Doh! 2. I drew the hydrogen H2 molecule with a double bond but it should be a single bond because they are bonded with a single covalent bond. 3. Where I have drawn carbon dioxide, the carbon should have a double bond to each of the oxygens. 4. Apparently Feynman diagrams are not that useful for theoretical chemistry, so perhaps that wasn't the best choice for the illustration. The feedback in the comments from a real theoretical chemist is "All we deal with is shuffling around electrons, but many many many electrons, so a Feynman diagram would need to be huge but at the same time would be very very repetitive." 5. In analytical chemistry, I should have called it distillation rather than precipitation. 6. My definition of organic chemistry being about ‘life’ is not very good. I should have said that organic chemistry looks at compounds that contain carbon. But there are some compounds in inorganic chemistry that also contain carbon, like carbon dioxide so I guess I'd also have to state that inorganic chemistry is almost everything else. 7. I said that fuels are inorganic chemistry which is misleading when I drew a car next to it. My understanding is that there are inorganic fuels that don't contain carbon, but obviously all the fuels we are familiar with are organic. I thought a picture of a car would tie a few things together elegantly, but it ended up giving the wrong impression. That’s okay, I’m still learning! :D 8. In inorganic chemistry, I should have stated that all natural minerals fall under inorganic chemistry so as not to be misleading, otherwise you might go way thinking that only man-made substances fall under inorganic chemistry which is not true. I said that 'a lot of the inorganic compounds that are studied are man-made' meaning that the cutting edge of research is mostly man-made substances. 9. Apparently water is not the most inflammable substance. I thought it was so that is interesting. 10. In the bonding section, hydrogen bonding and van der waals forces are technically inter molecular forces. Why Some Countries Are Poor and Others Rich

Why there's a ring of natural disasters around the Pacific

06:35
The belt of volcanic activity is called the Ring of Fire. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO The Ring of Fire is a band of volcanoes and frequent earthquakes that runs from New Zealand, up through Eastern Asia, across the Bering Strait and all the way down to the Southern tip of Chile. Volcanoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis appear around the boundaries of the several, fast moving, tectonic plates that make up the region. When the plates collide, they create areas of volatility. The Ring of Fire sees more natural disasters than anywhere else on Earth, but what makes it particularly dangerous is that few countries are prepared. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. Globalization I - The Upside: Crash Course World History #41

11:51
In which John Green teaches you about globalization, a subject so epic, so, um, global, it requires two videos. In this video, John follows the surprisingly complex path of t-shirt as it criss-crosses the world before coming to rest on your doorstep, and eventually in your dresser. (Unless you're one of those people who never puts their laundry away and lives out of a laundry basket. If that's the case, shame on you.) Anyway, the story of the t-shirt and its manufacture in far-flung places like China, Guatemala, and India is a microcosm of what's going on in the global economy. Globalization is a bit of a mixed bag, and there have definitely been winners and losers along the way. In this episode John will talk about some of the benefits that have come along with it. Next week, he'll get into some of the less-positive side effects of globalization. Also, you should turn on the captions. Geo-Spatial Survey of Natural Resources

08:23
GEO SPATIAL TECHNOLOGY IS A POWERFUL TOOL TO TRANSFORM MANAGEMENT OF FORESTS,ECOLOGY & ENVIRONMENT WITH SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT"----"Geo Spatial Information Technology" thrives upon convergence and amalgamation of Geographical Topo-Sheets, Digital Satellite Imageries, Global Positioning System & Geographical Information Services. This GeoSpatial Intelligence not only facilitates accessing, analysing large chunk of digital spatial data, mixing of tremendous amount of attributes but also empowers interpretation of satellite imageries, monitoring of forest wealth in a routine, utilizing sustained yield on periodic basis, administering India's 40% natural capital which help and assist trigger integrated natural resource development in the sector of Forest, Ecology and Environment as seen never before. Monitoring Forest, Ecology and Wild Life Resources is essential in present day global scenario as economic development of any country depends on sustainable management of its renewable natural resources. This sector tangibly and intangibly contributes significantly in growth in term of GDP providing food, fibre, forest produce, medicines apart from supplying timber, fuel wood and multitude of genetic resources which could not be measured and quantified to such a greater precision as ever before. Sustainable management of ecology, environment, flora and fauna helps in conservation of bio diversity, maintenance of soil fertility and control of floods, droughts, landslide and climatic disasters-thus maintaining equilibrium in ecosystem and environment. National Forest Policy encompasses sustained yield and regulation of ever growing demand of forest resources ensuring conservation of natural forest wealth and its protection. Geo Spatial Technology assists us in analysis, assessment and management of natural resources through application of combination of remote sensing, GPS, GIS tools and techniques, in addition to skilful interpretation of exhaustive satellite earth imageries comprehensively. The GeoSpatial Cyber-Ecosystem work flow allows comprehensively a forester for inventory mapping, forest composition assessment and to raise early warning for degradation together with monitoring of surrounding water resources, wild fires and illegal encroachments as well as regulating felling activities to prevent uncontrolled deforestation. It will not only help in formation of "Standard Protocols" but will also assist in growth and development of natural resources ensuring greater rate of returns, higher productivty in a transparent and responsivesystem of g-Governance ..A K Singh

Factorio 0.16 - Final Factory #18 WHERE ARE THE RICH RESOURCES

38:42
Drawing on 3000 hours of experience with Factorio; this series will combine what I have learned into a single long-running Vanilla let's Play series on YouTube. From pick axe to first rocket I will focus on efficient builds and comprehensive explanations to teach how to build an effective base from scratch Once the rockets start launching I will transition to a megabase focused on effectivity and game performance to show how to build a large mega base I have introduced some rules and challenges to this playthrough for yours and my enjoyment: - Pure vanilla: This will be my final playthrough of Factorio Vanilla (I think) - 1 episode for each YouTube Sponsor and Patreon backer ("Captain of Industry" or higher): More backers = more episodes - Megabase must reach 10 Science per min for each episode played: 200 backers = 200 episodes = 2000 science per minute - Everything is recorded: I have a tendency to build a lot off camera, but that would be cheating for the challenge - Normal biter without expansion: I want to have the challenge of the biters, but continually re-clearing the same space gets tedious - Rich resources: Considering the scale of the base I want to make sure I don't spend all my time laying tracks to reach remote, rich resources Specific information for this series at: https://nilaus.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/PM/pages/351043590/Factorio+S23+-+Final+Factorio The map is available as a "Google map" thanks for Geostyx (updated weekly): https://go.factoriomaps.com/Nilaus-Final-Factory Website: http://nilaus.tv Patreon: patreon.com/Nilaus Discord: discord.gg/HtFp6dP Twitter: twitter.com/ChristianNilaus Schedule: Everyday at 18:00 CEST Playlist to start from the beginning: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV3rF--heRVuEd41geF7FA37uD22U-Cjr Mods: Supporter Display (created for this series by Virtollie and Timbo007 of the community) #Factorio #LetsPlay #VanillaDoneRight

Why Ukraine is trapped in endless conflict

04:25
The ceasefire is completely ignored. Correction: In a previous version, the Russian Empire at 2:31 did not include Finland and northern Kazakhstan and at 2:34 the map mistakenly depicted the Warsaw Pact members, not the Soviet Union. At 2:03 the Minsk II agreement refers to the separatist enclaves as "certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine" not the DPR and LPR. Sources: Russian Empire: https://www.loc.gov/item/2015591079/ Soviet Union: https://www.loc.gov/resource/g7001f.ct001572/ Watch Vox Atlas, videos about conflicts around the world and their origins: http://bit.ly/2FOW52x Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO The present conflict in Ukraine started in 2014. Today, there are 100,000 fighters stationed in the country, making it one of the most heavily militarized regions in the world. In Ukraine's east, Ukrainian forces are engaged in a struggle with Russian-backed separatists. A ceasefire was called in 2015, with a security zone established that was meant to foster peace. However, today the security zone remains one of the most violent places in the Ukraine. With over 10,000 deaths to date, and over 1.5 million civilians displaced, the cost of ignoring the ceasefire continues to mount by the day. And both sides are still building up their forces. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. Syria's war: Who is fighting and why

Watch how the Syrian civil war became the mess it is today. After four-plus years of fighting, Syria's war has killed at least hundreds of thousands of people and displaced millions. And, though it started as a civil war, it's become much more than that. It's a proxy war that has divided much of the Middle East, and has drawn in both Russia and the United States. The Third Industrial Revolution: A Radical New Sharing Economy

01:44:59
The global economy is in crisis. The exponential exhaustion of natural resources, declining productivity, slow growth, rising unemployment, and steep inequality, forces us to rethink our economic models. Where do we go from here? In this feature-length documentary, social and economic theorist Jeremy Rifkin lays out a road map to usher in a new economic system. A Third Industrial Revolution is unfolding with the convergence of three pivotal technologies: an ultra-fast 5G communication internet, a renewable energy internet, and a driverless mobility internet, all connected to the Internet of Things embedded across society and the environment. This 21st century smart digital infrastructure is giving rise to a radical new sharing economy that is transforming the way we manage, power and move economic life. But with climate change now ravaging the planet, it needs to happen fast. Change of this magnitude requires political will and a profound ideological shift. It helps out tremendously!! Civilization VI is a game about building an empire to stand the test of time, and the Rise and Fall expansion brings new choices, strategies, and challenges for players as they guide a civilization through the ages. Can you inspire the Loyalty of people around the world, or will you lose cities to your rivals? Will you establish a Golden Age for your civilization, or be mired in a Dark Age? In Civilization VI: Rise and Fall, you truly become a leader for the ages. Successful leadership of a civilization can send it into a prosperous Golden Age, but falling behind can usher in a Dark Age. Respond well to the challenges of a Dark Age, and your civilization can rise again into renewal with a Heroic Age. Encourage the Loyalty of your citizens to keep your borders intact, or inspire Loyalty among other civilizations to expand your empire. World borders continually shift and change as Free Cities emerge from empires, and neighbors compete for the Loyalty of cities across the map. With the new the Governor system, players are able to further customize and specialize their cities, as well as react to the new challenges of Dark Ages and Loyalty. Each of the seven unique governors has its own promotion tree, and lends itself to different playstyles and strategies. In addition to these new systems, Civilization VI: Rise and Fall introduces eight new civilizations and nine new leaders. Eight new world wonders can be constructed, as well as a variety of new units, districts, buildings, and improvements. There are more ways than ever before to build, conquer, and inspire. GREAT AGES As your civilization ebbs and flows, and you reach milestone Historic Moments, you will move towards Dark Ages or Golden Ages, each providing specific challenges or bonuses based on your actions in game. Rise triumphantly from a Dark Age, and your next Golden Age will be even stronger – a Heroic Age. LOYALTY Cities now have individual Loyalty to your leadership – let it fall too low, and face the consequences of low yields, revolts, and the potential to lose your city if it declares its own independence. But one civilization’s loss can be your gain as you inspire Loyalty among cities throughout the map and further expand your borders. GOVERNORS Recruit, appoint, and upgrade powerful characters with unique specialization bonuses and promotion trees to customize your cities, and reinforce Loyalty ENHANCED ALLIANCES An enhanced alliances system allows players to form different types of alliances and build bonuses over time EMERGENCIES When a civilization grows too powerful, other civilizations can join a pact against the threatening civilization, and earn rewards, or penalties, when the Emergency ends. TIMELINE Review your civilization’s history at any time with the new Timeline feature, a visual journey through the Historic Moments that you encountered on your path to victory. NEW LEADERS AND CIVS Nine new leaders and eight new civilizations are introduced. Each brings unique bonuses and gameplay, as well as a total of eight unique units, two unique buildings, four unique improvements, and two unique districts. NEW GLOBAL CONTENT Eight new world wonders, seven natural wonders, four new units, two new improvements, two new districts, fourteen new buildings, and three new resources have been added. IMPROVED GAMEPLAY SYSTEMS The Government system has been enhanced with new Policies, including Dark Age Policies, new hidden leader Agendas, new Casus Belli, and additional improvements to existing systems.

Coal, Steam, and The Industrial Revolution: Crash Course World History #32

11:05
Mongols Shirts and Crash Course Posters! http://store.dftba.com/collections/crashcourse In which John Green wraps up revolutions month with what is arguably the most revolutionary of modern revolutions, the Industrial Revolution. While very few leaders were beheaded in the course of this one, it changed the lives of more people more dramatically than any of the political revolutions we've discussed. So, why did the Industrial Revolution happen around 1750 in the United Kingdom? Coal. Easily accessible coal, it turns out. All this, plus you'll finally learn the difference between James Watt and Thomas Newcomen, and will never again be caught telling people that your blender has a 900 Newcomen motor.
