I was watching a "motivational" video I stumbled across this morning and it featured a collage of clips from famous business people encouraging us not to give up, to keep going! All very clichéd... but valuable nonetheless. The trouble is I think many of us who operate outside the sweetspot struggle with this concept. What does it mean to "never give up" and is the a point which we can actually give up? I'm not so sure, because "don't give up" implies that there is a set criteria to keeping on. The truth is that no one can say what "giving up" actually is and only when we define it does it exist. So with that in mind, let's look at a scenario where a business is no longer functioning to an extent where it produces a profit and ask the question; Is Closing Down Your Business A Strategic Or Moral Decision? Is closing your business, and deciding to go in a new direction, providing different services for example, giving up? The answer is no, it's not. Is giving up your business and admitting it didn't work out this time, losing everything you had built and getting a job with an established company giving up? No it's not, not if you decide so. There's always another day, there's always another opportunity. As my 'oul mate Dick Branson said; "Opportunities are like buses, there's always another one on the way". There's always another way, and once you can believe in yourself, maybe lick your wounds for a while if you have to, you can come back and hit your goals.
