Although I began my career as a special education teacher helping severely emotionally disturbed children in a non-public school setting (K-12), I now have over 15 years in human resources. This means I can help you parlay your skills into a new role, too. I'll review and optimize your resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile. I also provide mock phone interviews so you are prepared. Lastly, I also help you identify and locate your ideal next employer, and position you as their next ideal employee. You do realize that all those collateral materials are marketing, right? Your resume is your marketing piece. As is your cover letter, your online presence (website, social media, including LinkedIn, etc.). And your phone interview. You are marketing you for your ideal next role. It may be only a target market of one: that specific Human Resource Professional or the Hiring Manager, but it is marketing non-the-less. The employer's job listing is their marketing piece. They, too, only have a target market of one: that one candidate who is positioned properly to show them that they are their next ideal employee. Now I didn't always realize this. Before I joined Hank's business, I thought he was the marketing guy and I was Office and Human Resource Management. Then I was listening to him talk to his clients and realized that his conversations were the same conversations I was having in my small business human resources office. This is probably an obvious point if you are freelancer or consultant, because you only get paid when someone contracts with you, but I postulate that it is also true if you are looking for a W2 role. By the way, the marketing part doesn't end once you're new employee is hired. Every day, employees and hiring managers have conversations that require one to convince the other of their position. I recommend you switch your paradigm and think of these interactions with your marketing mind. How can you craft your message to attract your target market of one to your point of view? To be bold, implementing digital marketing strategies could be game-changing for HR departments. And there is a ton of low-hanging fruit - quick results, as well as long-term gain. After two decades in HR (training, career development, OD) I became preoccupied with digital marketing, and for the last few years I've pursued it as a career (and last year launched my own digital agency), But I can't stop thinking about HR (it's a disease!). The more I learn about digital strategies the more I can see how they could apply to HR initiatives and make a huge difference - in recruitment, engagement, productivity, etc. First, these strategies can be used to help HR market itself! My position on this is pretty simple, that HR tends to suck at marketing (not to be too harsh, but it's never been our strong suit). And there are some technologies and proven practices that are commonly used in digital marketing that could benefit HR in terms of their own promotion. But these same technologies can help HR fulfill its mission by improving results in key initiatives, and by providing more value, they will also have more to promote. It's a virtuous circle. So I made this video where I just talk (perhaps a bit too much) about some specific ways to leverage emerging digital strategies to support HR initiatives (and therefore core business initiatives). (10) Be prompt without being hasty, quick without being aggressive. (11) Establish a rapport with the interviewers. (12) Emit vivacity and enthusiasm from yours looks and expressions. (13) Be perfectly normal. (14) Show pleasing and graceful manners, sufficient politeness and verve. (15) Be smartly and soberly dressed. (16) Gather adequate general knowledge before appearing at the interview. (17) Tell frankly if you are not able to answer any question or questions, In case the interviewer or interviewers suggest the answer always show gratefulness to them by being nicely thankful to them. (18) Try to show your interest in the job and never give the impression that you are only casually appearing before the interviewers. Don'ts (by PD CLASSES) (1) Do not appear nervous or shaky. (2) Do not speak in an affected style. (3) Do not try to unnecessary elaborate your answer. (4) Do not interrupt the interviewers. (5) Do not enter into an argument with the interviewers. (6) If somehow you miss to listen a question you can request the interviewer to repeat it. Never answer a question until you have listened it well. (7) Do not hesitate in answering questions. Alarmed by the nonsensical ideas of Transactional Analysis, Patrick Vermeren set out on a mission to reveal the truth about the many HR theories, models and questionnaires. The academic literature revealed that most HR practices (in recruitment, assessment, development, coaching…) are very problematic and some even dangerous. In this Talk valid alternatives are presented. Patrick Vermeren has been active as a consultant, trainer and coach since 1996. He built on his experience at major Belgian banks ( Cera and Dexia) and an American multinational ( Procter & Gamble). Since he joined Perco he advises HR professionals and he guides groups and individuals in the areas of leadership, coaching and facilitating decision making in groups ( participation). He also assists CEOs, managers and high potentials through training and personal coaching.
