What is FINRA arbitration? Securities and investment advisor information.
Nearly all national brokerage companies and many larger regional stock brokerage firms require their customers to sign FINRA arbitration agreements as a condition upon you doing business with their company. This means that if you, for any reason, need to sue your investment advisor, stock broker, and/or company for either fraud or investment malpractice, you will not be able to do so in court, and instead must use the FINRA arbitration process and hire a securities arbitration lawyer. 21. Exchanges, Brokers, Dealers, Clearinghouses
Financial Markets (2011) (ECON 252) As the starting point for this lecture, Professor Shiller contrasts the view of economics as the theory of the allocation of scarce resources with the view of economics as the study of exchange. After a discussion of the difference between brokers and dealers, he outlines the history of securities exchanges from ancient Rome, to the Amsterdam Stock Exchange and Jonathan's Coffee House in London, until the formation of the New York Stock Exchange. He complements this historic account with an overview of securities exchanges all over the world, covering India, China, Brazil, and Mexico. An example of a limit order book allows him to elaborate on the mechanics of trading at the National Association of Securities Dealers Automatic Quotation System (NASDAQ). Subsequently, he turns his attention to the growing importance of program trading and high frequency trading, but also discusses their impact on the stock market crash from October 19, 1987, as well as on the Flash Crash from May 6, 2010. When talking about fairness in financial markets, particularly with regard to the relation between private investors and brokers, he discusses the National Market System (NMS), the Intermarket Trading System (ITS), and consolidated quotation systems. He concludes this lecture with some reflections on the operations of dealers, addressing the role of inside information and the Gambler's Ruin problem. 00:00 - Chapter 1. How an Independent Insurance Agency Works
Independent insurance agents are one of the 3 avenues to getting home, auto, and business insurance. But the differences can be hard to perceive. This video breaks down your options. Here are some highlights: The 3 access points to home, auto, and business insurance: 1. Online/800 Number Go out and get your own insurance policies using a web portal or calling a hotline 2. Captive Agent A local branch of a large insurance company. The term “captive” means the local representative works for the company. 3. Independent Agent A small business that provides access to multiple insurance companies and advice about which company and coverage is best for you. Pros & Cons of Each: SPEED: Generally, the fastest way to get an insurance quote is through direct access to an online company. Their systems are automated and can give you a quote immediately. No advice about how good your policy is but fast. LOCAL: Here both Captive and Independent Agents should have you covered. You can walk into their office, meet face to face, and talk through your insurance options. QUALITY: When it comes to the best companies, high quality coverage, and well-rounded advice, independent agents have every motivation to be the best option. They aren’t tied to one company so their advice is much less biased. They work with companies that focus on quality rather than blasting the airways with a billion ads. PRICE: It’s important to note that no company or insurance agent can ever claim to have the best price. That’s simply because price is constantly changing. When you’re looking for insurance, it’s a single moment in time. The company that’s the best right then may not be the best in a year. Having said that, Independent agents have a huge advantage on price for two reason: 1. There is price competition inside the agency Independent agencies work with multiple companies. So the companies know that they have to bring their best pricing every year to stay relevant. If they can’t, the agency can just move on. 2. Independent agents see the ebb and flow of price Captive agents see one company all day long. This is the only company they can offer. Independents are motivated to be watching and connect with the companies that are most competitive. So, What’s an Independent Insurance Agency: • Access to multiple exclusive insurance companies • Works for you not the company • Is motivated by quality and good advice • Can usually find the best price and coverage • Helps during claims

Brokerage Firms -- Business Funding Tip
http://www.nchinc.com/ Brokerage Firms Many major brokerage firms like Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley have special programs designed for small businesses that allow the owners quick access to various loans and lines of credit. Many have found it simpler to get approved through a brokerage firm than a traditional bank. This is because brokerage firms are regulated differently. You can manage multiple loans in a single account, choose from flexible repayment options, easily track account activity, take advantage of competitive interest rates plus have easy and efficient access to funds. Loans typically come in three primary forms; short term, intermediate term, and long term. Before an applicant approaches a brokerage, they should have a clear understanding of what the funds will be used for and how to best present the information. To learn more about using brokerage firms to fund your business, contact a Nevada Corporate Headquarters representative at 1-800-508-1729.
