Residency BIDE + LaVisiva + Graner 2016

54:00
In this project, three entities linked to the contemporary performing arts, BIDE (Barcelona International Dance Exchange), Creation Center EL GRANER and Creation Center LA VISIVA, joining forces to launch a joint project with the aim of promoting artistic thought and transmission of creation methods concerning improvisation and instant composition. Each entity propose an artist with a particular profile: someone has developed its own methodology and is interested in the tools of instant composition and improvisation at the service of creation. Iris Heitzinger, Julian Barnett and Javiera Peón-Veiga had worked together during 10 days in La Visiva in order to share, in the way they decide, their methodology with the other participants. It asks the artist to do an exercise of transfer his knowledge, sharing a methodology developed throughout his career, with the idea of generating an exchange and open and active dialogue with other artists, to provide new insights and readings of the shared tools. The lab will focus on the tools of composition and improvisation as a methodology for the creation process, rather than the specific themes of work of each artist. We propose an experimental and open framework, where generosity and curiosity of each artist will be involved with the idea of sharing knowledge and concerns and feed the individual and collective artistic experience. In order to share the results of this meeting with the public we propose two actions. On one hand, the artists collect in a written document the content generated in this exchange. With this proposal we want to promote the generation of thought, theoretical content and written documentation in relation to artistic practice. This document will be shared on websites and networks of different entities. On the other hand, we ask the participating artists also share the content generated during the lab in an open session, under the format that seems most appropriate. This video shows the meeting that took place on 23 November 2016 on LA VISIVA, within the program of the SÂLMON Festival.

Is Our Trade Deficit a Problem? Foreign Exchange Reserves, Money Markets, Forex (2005)

47:14
From Classical economic theory, those who ignore the effects of long run trade deficits may be confusing David Ricardo's principle of comparative advantage with Adam Smith's principle of absolute advantage, specifically ignoring the latter. The economist Paul Craig Roberts notes that the comparative advantage principles developed by David Ricardo do not hold where the factors of production are internationally mobile. Global labor arbitrage, a phenomenon described by economist Stephen S. Roach, where one country exploits the cheap labor of another, would be a case of absolute advantage that is not mutually beneficial. In 2010, economist Ian Fletcher authored a significant work entitled, Free Trade Doesn't Work: What Should Replace It and Why, where he has supported a strategic approach to trade rather than an unconditional or unilateral approach. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trade_deficit Foreign-exchange reserves (also called forex reserves or FX reserves) are assets held by central banks and monetary authorities, usually in different reserve currencies, mostly the United States dollar, and to a lesser extent the Euro, the Pound sterling, and the Japanese yen, and used to back its liabilities, e.g., the local currency issued, and the various bank reserves deposited with the central bank, by the government or financial institutions. Central banks throughout the world have sometimes cooperated in buying and selling official international reserves to attempt to influence exchange rates and avert financial crisis. For example, in the Baring crisis (the "Panic of 1890"), the Bank of England borrowed GBP 2 million from the Banque de France.[15] The same was true for the Louvre Accord and the Plaza Accord. More recently, the Fed organized Central bank liquidity swaps with other institutions. During the crisis of 2008, developed countries authorities adopted extra expansionary monetary and fiscal policies, which led to the appreciation of currencies of some emerging markets. The resistance to appreciation and the fear of lost competitiveness led to policies aiming to prevent inflows of capital and more accumulation of reserves. This pattern was called Currency war by an exasperated Brazilian authority. The IMF [16] proposed a new metric to assess reserves adequacy in 2011. The metric was based on the careful analysis of sources of outflow during crisis. Those liquidity needs are calculated taking in consideration the correlation between various components of the balance of payments and the probability of tail events. The higher the ratio of reserves to the developed metric, the lower is the risk of a crisis and the drop in consumption during a crisis. Besides that, the Fund does econometric analysis of several factors listed above and finds those reserves ratios are generally adequate among emerging markets. Reserves that are above the adequacy ratio can be used in other government funds invested in more risky assets such as sovereign wealth funds or as insurance to time of crisis, such as stabilization funds. If those were included, Norway, Singapore and Persian Gulf States would rank higher on these lists, and United Arab Emirates' estimated $627 billion Abu Dhabi Investment Authority would be second after China. Apart from high foreign exchange reserves, Singapore also has significant government and sovereign wealth funds including Temasek Holdings, valued in excess of $145 billion and Government of Singapore Investment Corporation, valued in excess of $330 billion. In a strict sense, foreign-exchange reserves should only include foreign currency deposits and bonds. However, the term in popular usage commonly also adds gold reserves, special drawing rights (SDRs), and International Monetary Fund (IMF) reserve positions. This broader figure is more readily available, but it is more accurately termed official international reserves or international reserves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_exchange_reserves

IAS 21 The Effects of Changes in Foreign Exchange Rates

07:38
http://www.ifrsbox.com This is the short summary of IAS 21 The Effects of Changes in Foreign Exchange Rates. In today's world, the entities carry out their foreign activities in 2 ways: 1. They have some transactions in foreign currencies, or 2. They Have a foreign operation. An entity can also decide to present its financial statements in some foreign currency other than their own. The objective of IAS 21 is to prescribe • How to include foreign currency transactions and foreign operations in the financial statements of an entity; and • How to translate financial statements into a presentation currency. Functional currency is the currency of the primary economic environment in which the entity operates. It is the own entity's currency and all other currencies are "foreign currencies". The primary economic environment is normally the one in which the entity primarily generates and expends the cash, but more factors needed to be considered, such as the currency in which the sales prices are denominated, etc. Presentation currency is the currency in which the financial statements are presented. How to report transactions in FUNCTIONAL CURRENCY Initially, all foreign currency transactions shall be translated to functional currency by applying the spot exchange rate between the functional currency and the foreign currency at the date of the transaction. Subsequently, at the end of each reporting period, you should translate: • All monetary items in foreign currency using the closing rate; • All non-monetary items measured in terms of historical cost using the exchange rate at the date of transaction (historical rate); • All non-monetary items measured at fair value using the exchange rate at the date when the fair value was measured. All exchange rate differences shall be recognized in profit or loss with some exceptions. How to translate financial statements into a PRESENTATION CURRENCY When an entity's functional currency is NOT the currency of a hyperinflationary economy, then an entity should translate: • All assets and liabilities for each statement of financial position presented (including comparatives) using the closing rate at the date of that statement of financial position. • All income and expenses and other comprehensive income items (including comparatives) using the exchange rates at the date of transactions. All resulting exchange differences shall be recognized in other comprehensive income as a separate component of equity. The pleasure of annoyance, salem2salem

05:09
Komposition von Philippe Wozniak mit Michael T. Otto (Flügelhorn) und Hans Winkler (Performance); Cover(Grafik): Hans Seidl; Kamera: Hans Winkler. Videos zum internationalen Künstleraustausch salem2salem. Videoclips of the international exchange of artists; premiered at the Library of Schloss Salem, 8th August, 2018 Introduction from Philippe Wozniak: "This composition has been created during my residency at Schloss Salem within the artist exchange program “salem2salem” in 2018. At day and night the bells of the monastery in the castle in which I stayed during the program have been ringing every 15 minutes which wouldn’t allow me to get a full night of sleep. Those bells would follow me into my dreams and so it is not surprising that they became the main subject of my composition. In this way the annoyance of sleep deprivation and being constantly confronted with this sound made me process it in a creative way. The five notes written in the score are based on the notes of the bells of Salem. A Japanese legend says that if you can’t sleep at night it’s because you’re awake in someone else’s dream."

ABROAD IN JAPAN - Kansai Gaidai University (関西外大)

14:51
Hey guys, I've been looking forward to posting this video for a while now! As some of you may know, I had the incredible opportunity to study in Japan last year (Fall 2014). I made sure to take a lot of videos so I would be able to make a big video like this! Kansai Gaidai University is a college that primarily focuses on Asian Studies. It's located in Hirakata, Osaka, Japan. While I was there, I took classes on spoken Japanese, written Japanese, the history of manga and anime, and traditional Japanese music. I lived with a wonderful host family near the school, and rode a bike there every day. I can't even begin to put into words how incredible my experience was, but hopefully this video will give you an idea. Does Trade Help the Environment?

06:22
Is free trade good for the environment? Many environmental problems become better as a country increases its wealth. More resources are dedicated to taking care of the environment, and citizens of wealthier countries tend to prefer to live in a cleaner environment. There are, however, a small number of environmental problems that become worse as countries produce more, namely an increase in carbon emissions. This video also covers Kuznet's Curve, technique vs. composition effects, scale effects, private vs. social costs of production, and whether companies in wealthier countries ""outsource"" pollution. New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in 1932: "The Nation's Market Place" 1932 Dynamic Pictures

Originally a public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Stock_Exchange Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is a stock exchange located at 11 Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, New York City, USA. It is by far the world's largest stock exchange by market capitalization of its listed companies at US$13.39 trillion as of Dec 2010. Average daily trading value was approximately US$153 billion in 2008. The NYSE is operated by NYSE Euronext (NYSE: NYX), which was formed by the NYSE's 2007 merger with the fully electronic stock exchange Euronext. The NYSE trading floor is located at 11 Wall Street and is composed of four rooms used for the facilitation of trading. A fifth trading room, located at 30 Broad Street, was closed in February 2007. The main building, located at 18 Broad Street, between the corners of Wall Street and Exchange Place, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1978, as was the 11 Wall Street building. The origin of the NYSE can be traced to May 17, 1792, when the Buttonwood Agreement was signed by 24 stock brokers outside of 68 Wall Street in New York under a buttonwood tree on Wall Street. On March 8, 1817, the organization drafted a constitution and renamed itself the "New York Stock & Exchange Board." Anthony Stockholm was elected the Exchange's first president. The first central location of the Exchange was a room, rented in 1792 for $200 a month, located at 40 Wall Street. After that location was destroyed in the Great Fire of New York in 1835, the Exchange moved to a temporary headquarters. In 1863, the New York Stock & Exchange Board changed to its current name, the New York Stock Exchange. In 1865, the Exchange moved to 10--12 Broad Street. The New York Stock Exchange was closed for ten days starting September 20, 1873, because of the Panic of 1873. The volume of stocks traded increased sixfold in the years between 1896 and 1901, and a larger space was required to conduct business in the expanding marketplace. Eight New York City architects were invited to participate in a design competition for a new building; ultimately, the Exchange selected the neoclassic design submitted by architect George B. Post. Demolition of the Exchange building at 10 Broad Street, and adjacent buildings, started on May 10, 1901. The new building, located at 18 Broad Street, cost $4 million and opened on April 22, 1903. The trading floor, at 109 × 140 feet (33 × 42.5 m), was one of the largest volumes of space in the city at the time, and had a skylight set into a 72-foot (22 m)-high ceiling. The main façade of the building features six tall columns with Corinthian capitals, topped by a marble pediment containing high-relief sculptures by John Quincy Adams Ward with the collaboration of Paul Wayland Bartlett, carved by the Piccirilli Brothers, representing Integrity Protecting the Works of Man. The building was listed as a National Historic Landmark and added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 2, 1978...

Musical Postcard from Leiden to Leiden

04:03
This is a Musical Postcard Exchange between 16 year old Ayman, Omar, Hasan, Marcelo, Ahmed and Hassan. Ayman made a composition about his home country Syria. His four classmates responded with a composition and encourage him to continue with his music. Several students of the ISK-department (international switch classes) of The Da Vinci College in Leiden made Musical Postcards and composed musical responses to it. A selection of the Musical Postcards were presented at a school concert, performed by the students themselves and The Stolz Quartet.

A. R. Rahman, "Jiya Jale" (Dil Se): Berklee Indian Ensemble (Cover)

06:57
"Jiya Jale" (Dil Se) is a tribute to A. R. Rahman by the Berklee Indian Ensemble in gratitude for his immense contribution to our lives through his inspiring music and journey. A. R. Rahman is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and philanthropist. In 2009, Time Magazine placed Rahman in its list of World's Most Influential People. In a notable career spanning two decades, he has garnered particular acclaim for redefining contemporary Indian film music, and putting Indian music on the global map, in a way that no other Indian composer/performer has achieved. On October 24, 2014, Berklee College of Music will confer A. R. Rahman with an honorary doctor of music degree. Berklee Faculty and students from the Berklee Indian Ensemble will pay tribute to the living legend, who will join them on select pieces in a concert celebrating his music and life at Boston's Symphony Hall. Mr. Rahman's visit is a signature event under Berklee India Exchange, a new initiative co-founded by two Indian Berklee alums, Annette Philip (artistic director), and Clint Valladares (artist relations and strategy), as a platform for cultural conversation, through the composition, collaboration, and performance of original Indian music. Proceeds from the concert will go towards a scholarship fund in Mr. Rahman's name for students from India to attend Berklee. This is a huge milestone for the Berklee Indian Ensemble, one of largest and most diverse ensembles at the college, with members representing 37 countries, and counting. Founded in 2011 by faculty member, Annette Philip, the ensemble performs an expansive repertoire of Indian classical, semi-classical, folk, Sufi, and contemporary Indo-jazz music, with the ultimate goal of presenting concerts entirely consisting of original student compositions. Every year, there is at least one composition by A. R. Rahman featured in their repertoire. Berklee Indian Ensemble "Jiya Jale" (A. R. "The Mirabell Project" polaris artist management in cooperation with the Festival Hormiga de Oro present: Austria & Colombia -A musical exchange https://www.polarisartists.at/ “The Mirabell Project” is shaped by young musicians from all over the world, who converged in Salzburg, Austria, where they live, work and pursue their musical education at the renowned Mozarteum University. The majority speaks all three languages fluently: German, English and Spanish. The fascination, passion and desire of sharing the music and their knowledge with new audiences and young students is what connects the five musicians of The Mirabell Project. Their main goal is creating new musical ties and spaces, especially in developing countries. The musicians benefit from broad international musical experiences, being members of both modern and historic ensembles and orchestras with which they are regularly performing in all parts of the world. They stand out as soloists and chamber musicians. During this opening tour of the project, the Colombian audience will experience a high level of classical music performances. Furthermore, the musicians will take their audiences far beyond the typical concert situation. With their first priority being bringing their music to the regions, their motivation is making music together with children, students and teachers through recitals, didactic concerts and workshops.
