Read CSV Resource File: Android Programming

21:25
Import a CSV file into an Android Application from the raw resource folder and store the contents in custom data objects for use in Java. Steps: 1. Have data in a spread sheet. Clean out ','s from the data, then save as CSV file. 2. In Android project, create new resoure directory - type raw: gives name "raw" - copy in file w/ copy/paste 3. Write code to read it. - access the file via getResources().openRawResource(R.raw.vehicles_simple); - use a BufferedReader to read one line at a time. - call String.split() on the full line to create string tokens. - parse the strings as needed and store in custom data objects. - handle incorrectly formatted or missing data. Localization and Internationalization in Java Tutorial Part 1

03:39
Using Locale and ResourceBundle Class L10N I18N using Netbeans Localization refers to the adaptation of a product, application or document content to meet the language, cultural and other requirements of a specific target market (a locale). Internationalization is the process of designing an application so that it can be adapted to various languages and regions without engineering changes. Resource bundles contain locale-specific objects. When your program needs a locale-specific resource, a String for example, your program can load it from the resource bundle that is appropriate for the current user's locale. In this way, you can write program code that is largely independent of the user's locale isolating most, if not all, of the locale-specific information in resource bundles. This allows you to write programs that can: be easily localized, or translated, into different languages handle multiple locales at once be easily modified later to support even more locales. Java Try with Resources - 043

04:38
In this video, we're going to look at the try-finally, and the try with resources statements! There are times when we want to make sure something happens in our code no matter what. If an exception happens, we need the code to run. If an exception doesn't happen, we still want the code to run. An example of this is when we open a file. If there's an exception, we want to make sure the file is close. If there is no exception, we still want the file closed. #java #programming #tutorial ▼ Like the video? String Resources - Beginning Android Development - Your First Kotlin Android App

05:18
In Android, you should avoid adding text directly and instead use string resources. In this video, you'll learn what that means. This course will be released entirely free on YouTube with a new video being released once per day. This course will be released entirely free on YouTube with a new video being released once per day. For more videos, check out raywenderlich.com --- About www.raywenderlich.com: raywenderlich.com is a website focused on developing high quality programming tutorials. Our goal is to take the coolest and most challenging topics and make them easy for everyone to learn – so we can all make amazing apps. We are also focused on developing a strong community. Our goal is to help each other reach our dreams through friendship and cooperation. As you can see below, a bunch of us have joined forces to make this happen: authors, editors, subject matter experts, app reviewers, and most importantly our amazing readers! --- Kotlin is a statically typed programming language that runs on the Java virtual machine and also can be compiled to JavaScript source code or use the LLVM compiler infrastructure. Its primary development is from a team of JetBrains programmers based in Saint Petersburg, Russia.[2] While the syntax is not compatible with Java, Kotlin is designed to interoperate with Java code and is reliant on Java code from the existing Java Class Library, such as the collections framework. Kotlin uses aggressive type inference to determine the type of values and expressions for which type has been left unstated. This reduces language verbosity relative to Java, which demands often entirely redundant type specifications. As of Android Studio 3.0 (October 2017) Kotlin is a fully supported programming language by Google on the Android Operating System[3], and is directly included in the Android Studio 3.0 IDE package as an alternative to the standard Java compiler. The Android Kotlin compiler lets the user choose between targeting Java 6- or Java 8-compatible bytecode. Philosophy Development lead Andrey Breslav has said that Kotlin is designed to be an industrial-strength object-oriented language, and a "better language" than Java, but still be fully interoperable with Java code, allowing companies to make a gradual migration from Java to Kotlin. Semicolons are optional as a statement terminator; in most cases a newline is sufficient for the compiler to deduce that the statement has ended. Kotlin variable declarations and parameter lists have the data type come after the variable name (and with a colon separator), similar to Pascal. Variables in Kotlin can be immutable, declared with the val keyword or mutable, declared with the var keyword. Class members are public by default, and the classes themselves are sealed by default meaning that creating a derive class is disabled without requiring explicit keywords in the base class to enable it. In addition to the classes and methods (called member functions in Kotlin) of object-oriented programming, Kotlin also supports procedural programming with the use of functions.

Resources Names in Android

01:50
Each resource has an ID number held in a static variable that belongs to one of the static inner classes in R. The name of that static variable is the very same name we specify as the name of the resource. It can be name of the string (string resource), the name of the image file (drawable resource), the name of the array (array resource), the name of the xml layout file (layout resource) etc. The name of the resource must obey the same rules that apply when creating a simple variable in Java.
