Loading Resources In Java Using Eclipes IDE

03:58
There are many questions posted on Experts Exchange by people starting out in Java programming, who are using an IDE, most often Eclipse and sometimes NetBeans that center around their application not being able to find a file. This is quite often an image they want to use in their application. This often happens when they create an 'executable jar'. An executable jar is an application that can be made to run in a windowing environment by double-clicking a shortcut icon, much the same as one can get a native application to run. The ultimate cause of the problem is the failure to understand the concept of the 'current directory' or the 'working directory'. Wikipedia tells us: "In computing, the working directory of a process is a directory of a hierarchical file system, if any,[1] dynamically associated with each process. When the process refers to a file using a simple file name or relative path (as opposed to a file designated by a full path from a root directory), the reference is interpreted relative to the current working directory of the process. So for example a process with working directory /rabbit-hats that asks to create the file foo.txt will end up creating the file /rabbit-hats/foo.txt." ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_directory ) When developers starting out want to display, say my-image.png in the program, they often refer to this only by the path "my-image.png", having copied this into the project. This will work fine when the application is run through the IDE, but when, like all good java applications, it is made into an executable jar and the resulting icon is double-clicked, the application fails. Worse still, since Windows associates the open action of a .jar file with javaw.exe, which is designed to run without a console window, apparently nothing at all happens and the reason the application fails is a mystery. The application is not 'relocatable'. The solution to this problem is to package the resources together with the class files in the application jar. One of the best ways to do this is to create a 'resources' folder at the package root and to place any needed resources in there. An video example of doing that in the Eclipse IDE can be seen here.

10 Advanced Java Servlet Tutorial | Developing Java Web Application | adv java

55:17
#Advanced Java Servlet Tutorial adv java : Developing Java Web Application Developing java dynamic web application 1) JDK software (Im Using JDK 1.8) 2) Web Server / Application server (like tomcat) 3) Browser Software (like firefox, ie, chrome etc) Procedure to develop the above DateApp dynamic web application: Step 1:Create Deployment Directory Structure of webapplication ------ J:\1-Andi-java-Classess\Java\2Servlet\1Workspace \1DateApp --------- | |---WEB-INF | |----classes | | | |---DateServ.java | |---DateServ.class | |----web.xml This deployment directory structure is server independent. That means its same in all servers. This is given by Sun Microsystem for all servers to make java webapplication as "WODA"(Write Once Deploy anywhere) application. - all servlet program & other .java files must be placed in classes directory. -Web-root folder name is programmer choice (Ex. DateApp) & it can be created anywhere. - WEB-INF folder contains the information about the web applicatin & it should be In UPPER CASE letters Step 2: Develop the servlet program (DateServ.java) ------- //DateServ.java (in 1DateApp\WEB-INF\classes\ folder import javax.servlet.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.*; public class DateServ extends GenericServlet { //provide the implementation for service method having request processing logic & response generation logic public void service(ServletRequest req,ServletResponse res)throws ServletException, IOException{ //set response content type res.setContentType("text/html"); //get PrintWriter object form response object PrintWriter pw=res.getWriter(); //write the request processing & response generation logic Date d=new Date(); String s=d.toString(); //write web page content to response object pw.println("Date & time is :"+s); //close the stream object pw.close(); }//end of service(-,-,) }// end of class Step 3: Add servlet api realted jar to the class path environment variable or ------- if you are using IDE like eclipse or netbeans the add the jar to lib folder Note : in tomcat server, the servlet api jar file represents servlet-api.jar you can find in C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 9.0\lib\servlet-api.jar servlet-api.jar is not a part of JDK software so, to make java compiler recognizing servlet api that you are using in DateServ.java program, the above servlet-api.jar must be added to the class path Step 4) Compile the above DateServ.java program (Servlet Program) ------- Step 5: Create web.xml file having the configuration logic of the servlet program - specifying the details of resource to make underlaying container/server recognizing that resource is called as resoruce configuration. - Spcifying the details of servlet program in web.xml file to make servlet container recognizing the servlet program is called as resource configuration. save web.xml file under ...1DatApp\WEB-INF\ folder Every servlet program is indetified with its url pattern but bot its with class name or logical name. - web.xml file is called as deployment descriptor file or web configuration file. Servlet container reads this file when we deploy the web application. - web.xml file name is fixed and its contents are case sensitive. - Servlet container uses given logical name (i.e. boss) as object name when it creates object for our servlet. Note: Step 1 to 5 indicate the development of java web application. ------------------------------ Step 6) Start the tomcat web server C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 9.0\bin\Tomcat9.exe Step 7) Deploy the web application in tomcat server (1DateApp). Copy the "1DateApp" folder to C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 9.0\webapps Step 6, 7 indicate deployment of the web application. Step 8: test your web application ------- Open the browser type the following request http://localhost:2017/1DateApp/test1 *1 *2 *3 *4 *5 *1 protocol *2 hostname/ipaddress *3 port number on which tomcat web server is running *4 Web application name or context path or context root *5 url pattern of DateServ servlet program

Building Modular Applications with Enterprise OSGi

56:45
Every Java EE developer is familiar with WAR files and Servlets, and most are familiar with Spring and dependency injection. Those who have used these two technologies together are also painfully aware of how hard it can be to manage the class path and class loaders of their application as they add more library JARs. OSGi offers the perfect modularity solution for this class path hell , but few developers are aware that you can use WARs and dependency injection within an OSGi framework. Moving Java EE applications to an OSGi stack is as easy as possible. In this session we will discuss the basics of the OSGi modularity model, and demo the build tools, middleware, and architectural principles which can be used to turn a chunky WAR into a lean, mean, extensible OSGi web application ! Whilst his session is primarily aimed at enterprise developers new to OSGi, much of the content is equally applicable to OSGi development, and is recommended to anyone looking to brush u... Website monitoring & custom Tomcat & Oracle

05:58
How to use website monitoring application, which is free open-source tool: http://sitemonitoring.sourceforge.net/ Source code: https://github.com/jirkapinkas/sitemonitoring-production Running Site monitoring as a standalone application is fine, but you may want to deploy it to your custom Java EE server and use your custom Oracle database. I will present this on Apache Tomcat and Oracle Express Edition (XE) installed on my computer. Download Tomcat ZIP file, Oracle JDBC driver for your database and latest version of sitemonitoring application. Open src/main/resources/db.properties and edit this file. Also copy JDBC driver either to src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/lib, or to tomcat/lib directory. Add Maven bin directory to Windows Path. Finally go to project home directory and run: mvn clean package -P war This will create a standard war file. Copy this file to Tomcat webapps directory and start Tomcat.

MySQL | How to create MySQL database connection in JCreator

06:19
In this video we will learn to use MySQL database in JCreator by creating mydbcon.java class that will store mydb database login credential. This class will be used by other java files in our project. Why are we creating a separate database connection file? Well its a best-practice to keep common resource that is used by many in a separate file. Moreover, it is easy to modify a single file than to modify a large number of files. Consider this, in case you change the password of your database in future and you have kept the login credential in a single file, then all you have to do is change the password in that file and all the other files using it will get updated automatically. This will save you from wasting your time in updating too many files. Note: Though I have used JCreator in this video, you can follow the steps and create the file in other IDEs like Eclipse, NetBeans etc. 0:25 In this video 0:48 Why create mydbcon class 1:22 Open JCreator 1:30 Create New Project 1:48 Select Basic Java Application 2:04 Name your Project (MySQLProject) 2:28 Select JDK Version 2:45 Select Default 3:14 Create mypackage 3:18 Create mypackage in src folder 3:47 Create mydbcon class 3:51 Create mydbcon java class inside mypackage 4:31 Database login credential If you have not yet installed MySQL and need some help in the installation process then kindly watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdpE-hyT-So To create mydb database in MySQL kindly watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpOMpzt-nxs To connect MySQL and JCreator kindly watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5oHCCIj3R8 You can download the project code from my GitHub repository https://github.com/yusufshakeel/SQL-Project
