In this video, we will see how to enable dates after a specific date using minDate option and how to enable dates before a specific date using maxDate option. These options are really useful when you have to enable or disable consecutive dates in jQuery UI Datepicker. You can set the value of minDate and maxDate in the form of a Date object, number or string. If you set the value of minDate to new Date(2015, 0, 5), then dates till 5th January 2015 will be disabled. In other words, only dates from 5th January 2015 will be selectable or clickable. If you set the value of minDate to -2, then only dates from day before yesterday (2 days before today) will be enabled. If you set the value of minDate to -1m (y for year, m for month, w for week and d for day), only dates from one month before will be selectable. If you set the value of minDate to 0, only dates from current day (today) will be enabled. Similar is the case with maxDate. You just need to use the datepicker method. The Datepicker widget offers a number of options to customize your date picker. Many times, you will have to make some of the dates disabled or non-selectable. If you are developing an appointment form where you should not give appointments on holidays or Sundays. In that case, it would be better to disable those dates so that user will not select those dates even by mistake. You can accomplish this using beforeShowDay option. You need to return an array where the first item in the array needs to be true or false based on whether you want the date selectable (true) or non-selectable (false). In this video, we will make all Saturdays and Sundays as well as January 1st non-selectable. If you do not know how to write jQuery code easily and simply, see this video tutorial. http://youtu.be/ifus3baASaQ To know how to mark holidays in jQuery UI datepicker, see the video at http://youtu.be/Aj00lQlMVPU To know how to enable dates before/after specific dates in jQuery UI datepicker https://youtu.be/tNAmUH_RsrI To know how to format selected date in jQuery UI datepicker https://youtu.be/zlZnAqYPZVc

Select values of checkbox group with jquery

12:22
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/03/select-values-of-checkbox-group-with.html In this video we will discuss, how to select values of checked checkboxes that are in different groups using jQuery. Along the way, we will also discuss how to pass a variable to jquery selector. If you have just one group of checkboxes on your page, to get all the checked checkboxes you can use $('input[type="checkbox"]:checked'). However, if you have more than one checkbox group, then $('input[type="checkbox"]:checked') is going to select all checked checkboxes from both the checkbox groups. If you prefer to get checked checkboxes from a specific checkbox group, depending on which button you have clicked, you can use $('input[name="skills"]:checked') or $('input[name="cities"]:checked'). This will ensure that the checked checkboxes from only the skills or cities checkbox group are selected. Replace < with LESSTHAN symbol and > with GREATERTHAN symbol. At the moment to get the checked checkboxes values, we are using a button click event. You can also use the click event of the checkbox to do this. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('input[name="skills"]').click(function () { getSelectedCheckBoxes('skills'); }); $('input[name="cities"]').click(function () { getSelectedCheckBoxes('cities'); }); var getSelectedCheckBoxes = function (groupName) { var result = $('input[name="' + groupName + '"]:checked'); if (result.length > 0) { var resultString = result.length + " checkboxe(s) checked<br/>"; result.each(function () { resultString += $(this).val() + "<br/>"; }); $('#div' + groupName).html(resultString); } else { $('#div' + groupName).html("No checkbox checked"); } }; }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> Skills : <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="JavaScript" />JavaScript <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="jQuery" />jQuery <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="C#" />C# <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="VB" />VB <br /><br /> Preferred Cities : <input type="checkbox" name="cities" value="New York" />New York <input type="checkbox" name="cities" value="New Delhi" />New Delhi <input type="checkbox" name="cities" value="London" />London <br /><br /> Selected Skills:<br /> <div id="divskills"></div> <br /> Selected Cities:<br /> <div id="divcities"></div> </body> </html>

The most commonly used element is the unordered list. To disable a menu item add ui-state-disabled class to that list item element. <ul id="menu"> <li>USA <ul> <li>Virginia</li> <li>Maryland</li> </ul> </li> <li>India <ul> <li>AP</li> <li class="ui-state-disabled">MP</li> <li>Karnataka <ul> <li>Bangalore</li> <li>Mangalore</li> <li>Mysore</li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> <li>UK</li> <li>Australia</li> </ul> Step 2 : Find the unordered list element in the DOM and call menu() function $('#menu').menu(); To control the width, set the preferred with in the .ui-menu class. This class is applied to the unordered list by jquery ui. You can see this using the browser developer tools. <style> .ui-menu{ width:150px } </style> Please note : Another way you can control the width of the menu widget is by placing it as a child element in another element and setting the width of the parent element. <div style="width:150px"> Menu HTML here </div> You can add an icon to a menu item, by applying class names. For the list of icons provided by jQuery http://api.jqueryui.com/theming/icons/ <ul id="menu"> <li><span class="ui-icon ui-icon-flag"></span>USA <ul> <li>Virginia</li> <li>Maryland</li> </ul> </li> ... </ul> To associate a different icon to a submenu, use icons option $('#menu').menu({ icons: { submenu: 'ui-icon-circle-arrow-e' } }); To disable the menu, set disabled option to true $(document).ready(function () { $('#menu').menu({ disabled: true }); }); To get the selected item text, use the select event $('#menu').menu({ select: function (event, ui) { alert(ui.item.text()); } });

We want all the data for the cascading dropdownlists to be coming from the database. When the webform first loads, only the continents dropdownlist should be populated. Countries and Cities dropdownlist should be disabled and should not allow the user to select anything from these 2 dropdownlists. Once, the user makes a selection in the continents dropdownlist, then Countries dropdownlist should be enabled and populated with the countries that belong to the selected continent. The same logic applies for the cities dropdownlist.

If URL is not specified, a new window with about:blank is opened name - Specifies the target attribute or the name of the window. _blank - URL is loaded into a new window. This is the default value if not specified. _parent - URL is loaded into the parent frame _self - URL replaces the current page _top - URL replaces any framesets that may be loaded name - name of the window features - Must be a comma-separated list. Some of the browsers does not support these features. menubar (yes/no) - Shows or hides the browser menu toolbar (yes/no) - Shows or hides the browser navigation bar location (yes/no) - Shows or hides the address field status (yes/no) - Shows or hides the status bar resizable (yes/no) - Whether or not the window is resizable scrollbars (yes/no) - Whether or not to display scroll bars top(pixels) - The top position of the window left(pixels) - The left position of the window height (pixels) - The height of the new window width (pixels) - The width of the new window replace - Specifies whether the URL creates a new entry or replaces the current entry in the browser history. Works only if the url is loaded into the same window. true - URL replaces the current document in the browser history list false - URL creates a new entry in the browser history list No parameters are passed to window.open() method. Since URL is not specified, a new window with about:blank will be opened. [input type="button" value="Open popup" onclick="window.open()" /] Most modern browsers open new tabs instead of separate windows. If you want to open the popup in a new window, one workaround I have found is to specify the URL, name, and features(height and width) parameters. This may not work in all browsers and it also depends on user's browser preferences. [input type="button" value="Open popup" onclick="window.open('http://google.com', '_blank', 'height=200,width=200')" /] When name parameter is set to _self, the new window replaces the current window [input type="button" value="Open popup" onclick="window.open('http://google.com', '_self')" /] Specify where you want the new popup window to be positioned using top and left features. [input type="button" value="Open popup" onclick="window.open('http://google.com', 'My Window', 'height=300,width=300, top=400, left=400')" /] Disable scrollbars and resizing. Works in IE but not in Chrome. [input type="button" value="Open popup" onclick="window.open('http://google.com', 'My Window', 'height=300,width=300, scrollbars=no, resizable=no')" /] To close pouup use window.close() method. [input type="button" value="Open popup" onclick="openPopup()" /] [input type="button" value="Close popup" onclick="closePopup()" /] [script type="text/javascript"] var popup; function openPopup() { popup = window.open("http://google.com","My Window", "height=300,width=300") } function closePopup() { popup.close(); } [/script]

HTML5 Developer Tutorial: New Input Types for Web Forms

16:07
http://www.informit.com/store/html5-for-developers-livelessons-video-training-downloadable-9780132761710 Excerpt from HTML5 for Developers LiveLessons Video Training - Today's mobile phones can tell you where you are and, more importantly, where to find the closest dark chocolate skim mocha. Though technically a separate spec, most consider it a part of the HTML5 package. In this segment, we'll talk about the API and how you can use it to add that extra touch to your applications. HTML5 for Developers LiveLessons is a complete video training course introducing you to the fundamentals of working with HTML5, the fifth revision of the markup language used for structuring and presenting content on the Internet. HTML expert Nate Schutta offers 4 hours of instruction designed to show novice programmers the importance of HTML5 and how to leverage it in the web applications being built today. This set of training videos will explain what HTML5 is (and isn't) and demonstrate the new elements that HTML5 brings to the table. Schutta introduces key concepts, shows you how to detect browser support and how to build sophisticated Web forms. He also breaks down the new semantic elements as well. This training does not assume any experience with HTML and is the perfect way to get to know the language's key features. 1: Introducing HTML5 2: Basics of Browser Detection 3: New Input Types for Web Forms 4: New Semantic Elements 5: Using Canvas 6: Geolocation 7: Local Storage and the Offline API 8: Web Sockets and Web Workers 9: Other Key HTML5 Features Lesson 1: Introducing HTML defines just what HTML5 is. We will review a bit of history to see how HTML5 was created, and viewers will learn about why Web developers should care about HTML5 and what it can do for web sites and mobile applications. Also, we'll look at some demos, introduce concepts that will be covered in more detail throughout the series and discuss browser support -- and what to do about browsers that aren't up to speed. Lesson 2: Basics of Browser Detection will cover the basics of detection as well as getting the most out of rocking cool libraries like Modernizer. We'll also look at just what to do when a browser *doesn't* support a feature you're trying to leverage. Lesson 3: New Input Types for Web Forms will review new input types introduced by HTML5 along with features like placeholder text and autofocus that we've been hacking around for years. This lesson will also discuss how to do client side validation - even if JavaScript is disabled. Lesson 4: New Semantic Elements discusses the header, footer, and nav elements introduced in HTML5 as well as a new human type-able doctype and other semantic elements. Lesson 5: Using Canvas will review one of the most exciting features of HTML5 -- the canvas, a space you can use to draw anything from shapes to text to, well, anything! From basic drawing to graphs to full-fledged games, canvas opens up a whole new world of possibility -- a world sans browser plugins. Lesson 6: Geolocation will examine the Geolocation API and how it can be used to add an extra touch in your applications. Lesson 7: Local Storage and the Offline API will look at how you create a web app that works offline using HTML5. Lesson 8: Web Sockets and Web Workers will review the web socket API, which gives programmers a native way to have bi-directional communication with the server. As we create richer and richer clients, we're writing more and more JavaScript. Further, while the JS engines are getting faster and faster, there are cases where it'd be very handy to run scripts in the background. Web workers give us just such an opportunity. Lesson 9: Other Key HTML5 Features will discusses several features and elements in the spec that may not be as flashy as canvas and forms but may prove to be just as important. http://www.informit.com/store/html5-for-developers-livelessons-video-training-downloadable-9780132761710

jQuery tabs in asp net

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/06/jquery-tabs-in-aspnet.html In this video we will discuss how to use jQuery tabs in an ASP.NET web forms application. jQuery tabs widget is a single content area with multiple panels, each associated with a header in a list. This is similar to Accordion widget, which we discussed in Part 74 and 75. a) Tabs must be in either an ordered or unordered list b) Each tab "title" must be inside of a list item and wrapped by an anchor element with an href attribute c) Each tab panel may be any valid element but it must have an id which corresponds to the hash in the anchor of the associated tab. Steps to retrieve data from a database table and present it using jQuery accordian in an asp.net webforms application. We will use the country webservice that we worked with in the previous video session. We want to retrieve data from the following database table tblEmployee and display it using jQuery tabs widget in an asp.net web forms application Add a WebForm to the project. Copy and paste the following code. Notice that we are using 2 repeater controls to produce the HTML that the jQuery tabs widget expects. <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="WebForm1.aspx.cs" Inherits="Demo.WebForm1" %> <!DOCTYPE html> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script src="jquery-ui.js"></script> <link href="jquery-ui.css" rel="stylesheet" /> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#tabs').tabs({ collapsible: true, active: 1, event: 'mouseover' }); }); </script> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div id="tabs" style="width: 600px"> <ul> <asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <li> <a href="#C_<%#Eval("ID")%>"><%#Eval("Name") %> </a> </li> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> </ul> <asp:Repeater ID="Repeater2" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <div id="C_<%#Eval("ID")%>"> <%#Eval("CountryDescription")%> </div> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> </div> </form> </body> </html> Copy and paste the following code in the code-behind file using System; namespace Demo { public partial class WebForm1 : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Services.CountryServiceSoapClient client = new Services.CountryServiceSoapClient(); Services.Country[] countries = client.GetCountries(); Repeater1.DataSource = countries; Repeater1.DataBind(); Repeater2.DataSource = countries; Repeater2.DataBind(); } } } jQuery Tabs Widget Options collapsible - By default, atleast one panel need to be active. If you want to collapse all the panels, including the one that is active, set this option to true. active - This option can be set to a boolean value or integer. Setting active to false will collapse all panels. This requires the collapsible option to be true. An Integer value will make the corresponding panel active. Panels use zero-based index. event - The type of event that the tabs should react to in order to activate the tab. The default is "click". To activate on hover, use "mouseover".

How to Privately Embed YouTube & Vimeo Videos on Your Website

09:57
Start Your Own Member Directory Website: ▶ TRY FREE DEMO: https://www.brilliantdirectories.com/themes We get asked a lot about privately embedding YouTube and Vimeo videos on a website - how to make sure that the video can only be viewed where it's been embedded and nowhere else. You may want to do this if you are going to have a video section on your website for educational or training courses, internal company videos, or other premium video content. Videos uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo (which are the best tools for streaming content) are usually public and anyone can view them. So in this video, we demonstrate how to make your videos private, and only viewable on your website. It is good to keep in mind that if you want your videos to be found and be listed in Google, then it's best to upload these videos to YouTube. YouTube is the second largest search engine, and because it is owned by Google, YouTube videos are indexed more in Google than Vimeo videos. However, if you are going to be uploading your videos only to then be embedded on your website, Vimeo would be the better option because it has a lot more features for managing your videos and privacy settings. ► Get your free 7-Day Trial of Brilliant Directories: http://www.brilliantdirectories.com/freetrial

How to check if JavaScript is enabled

09:17
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/02/how-to-check-if-javascript-is-enabled.html In this video we will discuss how to check if JavaScript is enabled or disabled. Let us understand this with an example. We have a page that captures Name and Gender. Both fields are required. The page relies on JavaScript being enabled for performing validation. We should always have server side validation irrespective of whether we have client side validation or not. It is not a good practice to rely just on client side validation, but for the purpose of this demo, let us say we only have client side validation. If JavaScript is enabled then we want to display the Name and Gender elements and the user can continue to use the application. If JavaScript is disabled then we want to hide the Name and Gender elements and we want to display the following message. It seems that you have disabled JavaScript. Please enable JavaScript. The easiest way to detect if JavaScript is enabled is by using noscript tag. The content inside the [noscript] element will be displayed only if scripts are not supported, or are disabled in the user's browser. [noscript] [style type="text/css"] .rootDiv { display: none; } [/style] [h1]It seems that you have disabled JavaScript. Please enable JavaScript.[/h1] [/noscript] [div id="rootElement" class="rootDiv"] [table border="1"] [tr] [td] Name [/td] [td] [input id="txtName" type="text" onfocus="validateIfEmpty('txtName')" onblur="validateIfEmpty('txtName')" onkeyup="validateIfEmpty('txtName')" /] [/td] [/tr] [tr] [td] Gender [/td] [td] [input id="txtGender" type="text" onfocus="validateIfEmpty('txtGender')" onblur="validateIfEmpty('txtGender')" onkeyup="validateIfEmpty('txtGender')" /] [/td] [/tr] [/table] [/div] [script type="text/javascript"] function validateIfEmpty(control) { var controlToValidate = document.getElementById(control); if (controlToValidate.value == "") { controlToValidate.style.background = "red"; } else { controlToValidate.style.background = "white"; } } [/script]

Customise ngx bootstrap datepicker

09:48
In this video we will discuss customising the ngx-bootstrap datepicker component with an example. Changing ngx-bootstrap datepicker theme : At the moment, the Datepicker is using the default green theme. We want to change it to dark-blue theme, so it matches with the rest of the form. As of this recording ngx-bootstrap datepicker component has the following 6 color schemes. theme-default theme-green theme-blue theme-dark-blue theme-red theme-orange We can change the default colour-scheme, by manipulating containerClass property in bsConfig object. Showing or hiding week numbers : By default, the weeknumber are displayed. If you want to hide them, all you have to do is set "showWeekNumbers" boolean property to false in the config object. constructor() { this.datePickerConfig = Object.assign({}, { containerClass: 'theme-dark-blue', showWeekNumbers: false }); } You can find all the properties of the config object at the following page. https://github.com/valor-software/ngx-bootstrap/blob/development/src/datepicker/bs-datepicker.config.ts Along the same lines we can also set the min and max dates. Please note that the month numbers start from 0 and not 1. So for January it is 0, February it is 1, so on and so forth. constructor() { this.datePickerConfig = Object.assign({}, { containerClass: 'theme-dark-blue', showWeekNumbers: true, minDate: new Date(2018, 0, 1), maxDate: new Date(2018, 11, 31), }); } To change the date format, use dateInputFormat property of the config object. constructor() { this.datePickerConfig = Object.assign({}, { containerClass: 'theme-dark-blue', showWeekNumbers: true, minDate: new Date(2018, 0, 1), maxDate: new Date(2018, 11, 31), dateInputFormat: 'DD/MM/YYYY' }); } To set a default date, create a property (dateOfBirth) in the component class and set it to the default value you want. Since we are using 2 way databinding, the defualt date is displayed in the corresponding input field when them form loads. In this case we have set default date to January 30, 2018. dateOfBirth: Date = new Date(2018, 0, 30); At the moment, the "Date of Birth" input element is spanning across the entire width of the form. There are sevral options to limit it's width. One option is to use the Bootstrap row and grid classes (Example: col-md-4, col-md-5, etc...) To control the placement of the Datepicker use the placement property. The allowed values are "top" | "bottom" | "left" | "right". The default is "bottom". AngularJS Tutorial #12 - ng-show directive

05:19
Yo ninjas, in this AngularJS tutorial, I'll show you how we can dynamically hide and show elements depending on the value of certain properties in your data. ng-show only shows elements when it is equal to true, and ng-hide only hides elements when it is equal to true. Hey gang, in this AngularJS tutorial, I'll be introducing you to filters and how we can use them to change the way our data is displayed to a user. Filters can be used in conjunction with ng-repeat, or directly on the expression itself. We use Angular filters to do things like ordering a list of items alphabetically, or by type, or to display numbers as a currency. ----- COURSE LINKS: + Source files on GitHub - https://github.com/iamshaunjp/angular-js-playlist + Atom text editor - https://atom.io/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can find more front-end development tutorials on CSS, HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, WordPress & more on the channel homepage... Adding JavaScript to ASP NET controls

13:12
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/02/adding-javascript-to-aspnet-controls.html In this video we will discuss different options available to add JavaScript to ASP.NET server controls. Adding JavaScript to ImageButton in ASP.NET : Adding JavaScript to ASP.NET server control declaratively : Copy and paste the following HTML in WebForm1.aspx. In this example we are declaratively adding the JavaScript that we want to execute in response to onmouseover and onmouseout events. onmouseover and onmouseout attributes does not correspond to any of the ImageButton control properties, so they will be passed through to the browser as is. [asp:ImageButton ID="ImageButton1" runat="server" ImageUrl="/Images/blueButton.png" onmouseover="this.src='/Images/greenButton.png'" onmouseout="this.src='/Images/blueButton.png'" /] The JavaScript that we want to execute in response to onmouseover and onmouseout events can also be present in separate JavaScript functions as shown below. [form id="form1" runat="server"] [asp:ImageButton ID="ImageButton1" runat="server" ImageUrl="/Images/blueButton.png" onmouseover="changeImageOnMouseOver();" onmouseout="changeImageOnMouseOut();" /] [script type="text/javascript"] function changeImageOnMouseOver() { document.getElementById("ImageButton1").src = "/Images/greenButton.png"; } function changeImageOnMouseOut() { document.getElementById("ImageButton1").src = "/Images/blueButton.png"; } [/script] [/form] Adding JavaScript to ASP.NET server control at runtime : ASPX : Notice that in the declarative markup we removed onmouseover and onmouseout attributes [asp:ImageButton ID="ImageButton1" runat="server" ImageUrl="/Images/blueButton.png"/] ASPX.CS : protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { ImageButton1.Attributes.Add("onmouseover", "this.src='/Images/greenButton.png'"); ImageButton1.Attributes.Add("onmouseout", "this.src='/Images/blueButton.png'"); } Adding JavaScript to ASP.NET Button onclick client event declaratively : With Button, LinkButton and ImageButton controls, OnClick attribute corresponds to server side click event. For this reason you cannot use OnClick attribute to add JavaScript that you want to execute in response to client side click event. The following code throws an error. [asp:ImageButton ID="ImageButton1" runat="server" ImageUrl="/Images/blueButton.png" OnClick="return confirm('Are you sure you want to submit')"/] With Button, LinkButton and ImageButton controls to associate JavaScript that you want to execute in response to client side click event use OnClientClick attribute as shown below. [asp:ImageButton ID="ImageButton1" runat="server" ImageUrl="/Images/blueButton.png" OnClientClick="return confirm('Are you sure you want to submit')"/] Adding JavaScript to ASP.NET Button onclick client event at runtime : If you are adding JavaScript at runtime, then you will have to use onclick. ASPX : [asp:ImageButton ID="ImageButton1" runat="server" ImageUrl="/Images/blueButton.png"/] ASPX.CS protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { ImageButton1.Attributes.Add("onclick", "return confirm('Are you sure you want to submit');"); }

Intermediate HTML - Forms - Part 4 - Validating Form with JavaScript

15:05
Learn how to validate your username and password fields with JavaScript. We cover a couple addition HTML attributes and Elements such as: action, onsubmit, method and required attributes as well as the script element. Please not that you really shouldn't use JavaScript to validate your username and password fields. Because JavaScript is known as client side scripting language. That means that they can easily inspect your source code and quickly find what the actual username and password is. You should use a server side language such as PHP. Also, JavaScript can be disabled by the user at anytime. Enjoy!

HTML Tutorial 16 - Radio Buttons and Checkboxes (Forms)

15:30
In this tutorial, we continue to talk about creating HTML forms, but in addition to talking about textboxes and submit buttons, this tutorial covers how to add radio buttons and checkboxes to a form. Radio buttons can be useful for when a user is only allowed to select one option from a list of items, while checkboxes can be used to allow users to select multiple (or no) items from a list of them. In order to add radio buttons and checkboxes to our webpages, we can still use the "input" tag and the "type" attribute, but instead of using a type of "text" or "password", we can use either "radio" or "checkbox" to create radio buttons or checkboxes. Caching webforms 2. Caching multiple responses of webforms 3. Fragment caching using user controls 4. Caching multiple versions of usercontrols Please watch these videos, from the asp.net video tutorial using the link below http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6n9fhu94yhXQS_p1i-HLIftB9Y7Vnxlo In this video we will discuss about caching application data. It is possible to store application data in the web server memory, using the CACHE object, so that the data can be retrieved faster. For example, let us say, we have a stored procedure that takes 5 seconds to execute and return data. We can cache the data returned by this stored procedure with in an asp.net web application using the CACHE object, so that, next time when we try to access the data, we can get it from the cache, rather than reprocessing the stored procedure again. We will be using "tblProducts" table for this demo. If you need the script to create and populate this table, please refer to Part 122, using the link below. http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/01/fragment-caching-in-aspnet-part-122.html Text version of this video is present at the following link http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/02/caching-application-data-in-aspnet-part.html The following stored procedure takes 5 seconds to execute and return data. We are using WAITFOR DELAY, to introduce artificial query processing time of 5 seconds. CREATE Procedure spGetProducts as Begin Waitfor Delay '00:00:05' Select * from tblProducts End Copy and paste the following code in WebForm1.aspx.cs. The code is well documented and is self explanatory. protected void btnGetProducts_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { DateTime dtStartDateTime = DateTime.Now; System.Text.StringBuilder sbMessage = new System.Text.StringBuilder(); // Check if the data is already cached if (Cache["ProductsData"] != null) { // If data is cached, retrieve data from Cache using the key "ProductsData" DataSet ds = (DataSet)Cache["ProductsData"]; // Set the dataset as the datasource gvProducts.DataSource = ds; gvProducts.DataBind(); // Retrieve the total rows count sbMessage.Append(ds.Tables[0].Rows.Count.ToString() + " rows retrieved from cache."); } // If the data is not cached else { // Get the data from the database DataSet ds = GetProductsData(); // Cache the dataset using the key "ProductsData" Cache["ProductsData"] = ds; // Set the dataset as the datasource gvProducts.DataSource = ds; gvProducts.DataBind(); sbMessage.Append(ds.Tables[0].Rows.Count.ToString() + " rows retrieved from database."); } DateTime dtEndDateTime = DateTime.Now; sbMessage.Append((dtEndDateTime - dtStartDateTime).Seconds.ToString() + " Seconds Load Time"); lblMessage.Text = sbMessage.ToString(); } private DataSet GetProductsData() { string CS = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DBCS"].ConnectionString; SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(CS); SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter("spGetProducts", con); da.SelectCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; DataSet dsProducts = new DataSet(); da.Fill(dsProducts); return dsProducts; } In this video, we discussed about storing application data in cache, using direct assignment. That is using a key and assiging value to it, as shown below. Cache["ProductsData"] = ds In our next video, we will discuss about all the other options that are available, to store data in the Cache object.
