You will see that the wound will heal more quickly. - Alcohol rubbing may create intoxication, while vinegar will significantly raise acidity, which is especially dangerous for children. So, don’t believe these outdated pieces of advice. - Lifting a fainted person up will only aggravate the spasm. What you should do is lift their legs up, unbutton any tight pieces of clothing and don’t let them stand up right after they come around. After they regain consciousness, don’t let them drink coffee or energy drinks. - Butter or sour cream dry your skin and disrupt thermal exchange. This results in heat having nowhere else to go but deeper into the skin causing even more damage. What you should do is hold your hand in the cool water for 15 minutes. This will help with the pain. - You should never set a dislocated joint on your own, no matter how cool and brutal that looks in movies. It may result in additional injuries. The best course of action would be to immobilize the injured limb and go to the hospital as soon as possible. - When your muscles are sprained, a warm cloth won’t help. On the contrary, heat will strengthen the blood flow, leading to a more severe swelling. In the first days after the injury apply cold. It will lessen the inflammation and kill the pain. - The standard recommendation for poisoning is to make yourself vomit. It might sound reasonable, but actually, it’s strictly prohibited. First of all, the poison can get into the lungs and damage them. The second problem is that if someone was poisoned with some chemicals, vomiting doubles the change of burning your throat. - Remember to approach a person from behind so that they don’t see you coming; otherwise, the person may hinder you or drag you down in their panic. After you’ve approached the person, grab them under the armpits or by the chin, and move to the shore, keeping their head at your belly. - Never try to pull out objects from serious wounds. Even doctors keep them in place until the patient is in surgery. The thing is, while the object is inside the wound it doesn’t let the bleeding start. The only thing you can do is put some alcohol on the wound, but you must be ready for the wound to hurt very much. - You shouldn’t apply ice directly to the skin if you don’t want to get a cold burn. Instead, put a cloth between your skin and a pack of ice. - Skin glue is very quick and virtually painless. Wash the wound with cool water before using glue. Then, stop the bleeding by pressing the wound. Close the edges of the wound and put skin glue along it. Keto: Low Carb Diet (Science Explained)

Ketosis is a process that occurs in the body in times of chronic glucose depletion. When the body runs out of glucose it turns to fat for fuel, and when it does this, it begins to form ketones to burn as fuel hence the word “Ketosis”. Ancestrally speaking this would have been very beneficial in times of a drought, or other natural disaster where our ancestors were unable to obtain their preferred macronutrient carbohydrates as a source of fuel. This is similar to the cyclical keto diet. However, it is not the preferred state of the body rather a stressed state that the body is in until it can find an ample source of glucose to properly fuel itself. This diet took hold after findings that showed fasting was effective at treating epilepsy in the early 1900s, and it was in 1921 when Rollin Woodyatt discovered that when in a fasted state your body produces 3 distinct ketones. Later in the 1960s it was found that in the absence of a high carb diet with a high amount of the dietary calories coming from MCT that the body was able to produce these ketones without fasting, and thus created a novel treatment for epileptic children (60,66). But is this diet really beneficial for the average person? Is this optimal for athletes that are trying to optimize their performance on all fronts? Can you really eat fat to burn fat, or does this just cause insulin resistance? Ketones are not the bodies preferred fuel source, and the body, as shown in research time and time again, does not thrive in the ketotic state, but rather on a glucose metabolism (49,50,51,59) One reason that many people think that they need to go into ketosis is the thought that they can enhance their performance, but this is a common misconception. There are many studies that show that this isn’t the case, there is no benefit whatsoever, and can even cause a decrease in performance in certain cases and cause a adverse effects on the body when trying to recover (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14). Another reason that many people fall to the ketosis myth is that they believe it is a magic bullet for losing a little extra weight, but this is only in the short term whenever the body is running out of the glycogen it has stored and pushing out excess water. In the long term there is no advantageous effect of the keto diet over any other diet if the calorie are not in check and that a higher carb diet can actually be more effective (5,15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22). In fact doing this type of diet actually causes the body to not be able to respond to insulin, because it becomes unfamiliar with it the longer that it goes without it and leads to insulin resistance (23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32). The keto diet is also very detrimental for the the thyroid, causing massive damage to the thyroid, especially when done chronically (3,33,34,35,36,37,38,39,40,41, 42). The reason that people also tend to feel pretty bad on the keto diet is because of the lack of diversity in their food. Most foods that are high in carbs are also extremely dense in micronutrients, and it makes it very difficult to get adequate amounts of all the key minerals we need in order to thrive (43,44,45,46,47,48). Along with the micronutrient deficiencies that can be caused by the keto diet there are a whole host of studies that show different adverse effects of the keto diet, such as acid P, renal tubular acidosis, enlargement of the heart, hyperlipidemia in children, children heart attacks, decreased platelet functioning leading to increased bruising, and increase in oxidative stress (low antioxidant content in the diet) (52,53,54,55,56,57,58,61,64). All bias aside from the scientific literature that has been discussed it is obvious that a diet that is deprived of carbs is not optimal for human health. There are many complications that accompany the diet and is only necessary in extreme cases such as severe epilepsy. Thomas Schlereth is the author of two brilliant articles on project management in our book series "Die Neue Führungskunst - The New Art of Leadership". The founder and CEO of Can Do GmbH in Munich belongs to the most impressive thinkers in the entire project management business, even though he has neither finished school nor visited a university. I first worked with him shortly after his team has released the very first version of cando project intelligence. At that time, one of the firms initial investors (today the firm is purely owned by Thomas and his management team), a client of mine, brought us in touch and we had regular discussions on modern organizations, the requirements for collaborative software and marketing issues. cando project intelligence is far more than just another piece of project management software. Transcript: Most managers feel they should keep everyone on their team happy and comfortable. But, such managers usually have poor long-term job security. They are secure for a period of three to five years, then they are let go or moved to a less significant position by the organization. Why are they moved out? Because the whole world rapidly changed, while their focus was on keeping people happy and comfortable, despite major problems in the areas of customer satisfaction, quality, teamwork, timeliness, or cost-competitiveness. To be successful, your focus needs to be on staying ahead of your competition. The problem with rapid change is that it usually makes people feel uncomfortable, unhappy, and fearful. Being fearful is normal because an unclear future is scary. You know what's scarier than an uncertain future? A future that you are not a part of because your team is made up of dinosaurs who have grown too comfortable and are afraid of change. Take a look around and read the writing on the wall. What customers demand and desire is completely changing, and will continue to change because of technology. Since customers are raising the bar, that means you also need to raise the bar in terms of what you are expecting of your employees. Even if you don't raise the bar and welcome change with open arms, your competitors will. Some people disagree with the goal of keeping employees uncomfortable. Today, the employee who is out there chopping the water, demanding that we change fast to stay one step ahead of our competition is the loyal employee. These new loyal employees may be the ones to incite change first, or it may be the managers. Either way, this means that managers need to over-communicate to ensure that everyone is aware of the changes that are needed. Talk to customers, talk to the employees on the front line, talk to people in different industries, read books and blogs, and go out and talk to your competitors. All this will result in an information base to help you become more confident, passionate, and excited about the need to change. The more information you provide your employees with regarding your industry, the economy, environment, and your customers, the more people will understand, and be excited about, the need to change. Discomfort will be the new norm.

World's leading authority on Autism, Prof Simon Baron-Cohen uncovers the secrets of Autism Spectrum Conditions Is there a relation between scientists and Autism? How about Engineering and Autism? Prof Simon Baron-Cohen and his team of researchers pondered on these questions when they started conducting research in the City of Eindhoven in Netherlands. The city is seen as the 'silicon valley' of Netherlands and has birth of many Engineering organizations for a century now. Especially companies like Philips has made Eindhoven its home base. The results did surprise them. They found out that Autism is twice more prevalent in Eindhoven, compared to two other cities in Netherlands. Their research also showed that children with Autism were more attracted towards patterns and systems instead of human interaction. Moreover the parents of people with Autism were found to be working in Engineering disciplines giving a hint that it might be genetically linked as well. Professor Simon wonders out loud if Autism could be more common in Bangalore, the Indian Silicon Valley due to the nature of technology related jobs in the city. In this talk, Simon traces back the history of discrimination against disability by nations in Europe and in US and the sterilization laws that were in place to discriminate people with disability in the 1930's. Counting incidents of euthanization during this bleak period of history, Professor says, 'We have to remember history so as to not repeat its mistakes'. Humanity seems to have learnt from its mistakes and countries like UK have, since 2005, adopted the Disability (anti) discrimination bill to stop discrimination of people with disability thus setting an example to other nations world over that it's high time we started embracing Neurodiversity which will gift the humanity our next Einstein and Newton. But, Nature is very selective-- less than 7% of submittedpapers are published. In order to maximize your chances of getting published, papers should present fundamental new physical insights, or startling observations/results. Theory papers pose additional problems, as we want only those papers that are likely to be the correct explanation, and not simply exploring parameter space. The writing should be clear, concise and directed at the level of a graduate course in the subject. I encourage authors to contact me in advance of submission of a paper, both to ascertain the appropriateness of the result for Nature, and to ensure that the writing is close to our standards. Posting to ArXiv is and always has been allowed, but authors should discuss the specifics with their institutional public affairs officers before doing so. Lapses in professional ethics seem to be on the rise -- I will discuss some examples, and what we should be doing to keep astronomy clean.

Learn more about this event: http://age-of-experience.3ds.com/science/ Early in his career Karplus studied magnetic resonance spectroscopy; of particular interest was his theoretical analysis of nuclear spin-spin coupling constants. He made fundamental contributions to the theory of reactive collisions between small molecules based upon trajectory calculations. He was one of the first researchers to apply many-body perturbation theory to atomic and molecular systems. He has studied quantum mechanical processes in biological molecules, such as the bonding of oxygen to hemoglobin and the photochemistry of visual pigments. His more recent work has been concerned with the development of molecular dynamics and other simulation methods for the elucidation of the properties of proteins and nucleic acids. He is now studying enzymatic reactions, protein folding, and the function of biomolecular motors. Over the years, Dr. Karplus has conducted research in many areas of theoretical chemistry and biochemistry and has presented his results in over 800 journal articles and book chapters, as well as two books. His primary interest has been to develop and employ theoretical methods for increasing our understanding of chemical and biological problems. His contributions have been instrumental in the transformation of theory from a specialized field to a central part of modern chemistry and more recently of structural biology.
