To find them, make sure you’re starting at the library’s homepage, http://libraries.luc.edu. Next, click in the search box and type “Harvard Business Review” then click search. Your first result should be the Harvard Business Review. You’ll see we have both online and physical copies. All you have to do is click on the title, “Harvard Business Review.” You’ll now see that the journal has opened within the catalog. However, it can be a little awkward to read it this way. Instead of reading this way, you can click on the link that says “Open source in a new window” and it should pop open in a full view. Now you have two options: One is to browse through the dates and find the exact issue that you need. You have full-text access, going all the way back to 1922, to Harvard business review on campus or remotely through the Lindell Library homepage. What Harvard Business Review forbids is the creation of links to course management programs such as Moodle to Harvard Business Review, even though we have full text access through the database we pay for. Now, we can talk about that as a business model, but... well... anyway... To access Harvard Business Review articles, go to the library homepage at www.augsburg.edu/library. Next, find the brown box in the middle that says "I'm looking for...". Click on "Database". Now, scroll down to "Business Source Premier". There, click on the second tab near the top which reads "Advanced Search". A number of boxes will appear next to the word "Find". In the first search box type "Harvard Business Review", then, in the box next to it, pull down the field box to "Publication Name". Continue adding the author's name, last name first, and pull down the field box to "Author". Finally, add the title and again pull down the field descriptor to "Title". Click "Search" and access to the full-text article will appear. The article can be read, printed, emailed or added to a folder. "Bill George is a professor of management practice at Harvard Business School, where he has taught leadership since 2004. He is the author of three best-selling books True North, Finding Your True North, and Authentic Leadership. Mr. George is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Medtronic. He joined Medtronic in 1989 as President and Chief Operating Officer, was Chief Executive Officer from 1991-2001, and Chairman of the Board from 1996 to 2002. The power of paradox: Dr. Wendy Smith at TEDxUD
Wendy Smith earned her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior at Harvard Business School, and is currently an Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Alfred Lerner School of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware. Wendy's research focuses on strategic paradoxes -- how leaders and senior teams manage commitments to contradictory agendas. She has explored how senior teams simultaneously explore new possibilities while exploiting existing competencies. She also explores how hybrid organizations, specifically social enterprises, manage social missions and financial goals simultaneously. Her research has been published in journals such as Academy of Management Review, Harvard Business Review, Organization Science, Management Science and Long Range Planning. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. Strategies for Innovation in China | ESMT Open Lecture with George Yip
How to understand and learn from the Chinese approach to innovation. In this ESMT Open Lecture on November 29, George S. Yip will analyze the key advantages China has for innovation, while identifying challenges for foreign companies conducting innovation in this Asian country. The Professor of Marketing and Strategy at Imperial College Business School will highlight leadership and strategy lessons for foreign companies to be learned, basing his talk upon a four-year program of research conducted by the CEIBS Centre on China Innovation. The findings are the subject of the book China’s Next Strategic Advantage: From Imitation to Innovation, published by The MIT Press in 2016. About George S. Yip George S. Yip is Professor of Marketing and Strategy, and Associate Dean for Executive Programmes at Imperial College Business School, London. Previously he held a number of academic positions at China Europe International Business School, Rotterdam School of Management, as well as Harvard, UCLA, Cambridge Judge and London Business School. Furthermore, he was Lead Senior Fellow of the UK’s Advanced Institute of Management Research and member of the Editorial Advisory Board of MIT Sloan Management Review. Management positions included Vice President and Director of Research & Innovation at Capgemini Consulting and senior manager at Price Waterhouse (USA) amongst others. He published widely, including three books and more than 100 articles in top journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Harvard Business Review and others. Markus Reitzig, Professor of Management, explains what hierarchies do to our behavior, and how we should use them effectively to create competitive organizations instead of “boats full of captains with no sailors”.
