Articles. Time management. Habits. [FRDP #6]

11:04
It was my first week of "learning English" and it was interesting. I tried to get rid of my habit of overemphasizing articles. But the habits are really hard to get rid of as you will see. I'm also trying to find a time-management approach that would work for me and help me keep everything organized (but not too organized). Let's talk about it.

What HR Managers Learn About You By Looking at Your Clothes

09:03
If you want to get your dream job, it’s crucially important to make the best possible first impression on the recruiter, and everything, including your style, means a lot. There are five vital things you should know that hiring professionals use to form their opinions about you and decide if you will fit into the corporate culture and get the job or not. Sherry Maysonave, head of Empowerment Enterprises, an image consulting firm based in Austin, Texas, says that the first impression happens in less than 30 seconds and it’s based entirely on your attire. Using the color of your clothes, you can influence other people however you want. Pastel colors in clothes and makeup can help you win other people’s trust. The most important thing is not to overdo it. Blue is probably the best color choice for a job interview, unless you’re aiming for a creative job. The color red represents the life force and the inclination to be successful and efficient. Business suits are not always the best choice for a job interview because the impression you may give the employer is that you are “overqualified.” A tasteful statement dress that doesn’t reveal your neckline and ends around 1 inch above the very top of your knee will do just fine. Your attire should be as close to the company dress code as possible. People are more eager to accept other people who are like them, so the more you look like the other employees, the easier it is for an HR manager to imagine you working with them. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS What the colors of your clothes say about you 0:33 What the style of your clothes says about you 3:21 What your brands say about you 5:07 Illustrative details 5:47 How well can you fit into the corporate culture 6:52 SUMMARY -Blue is probably the best color choice for a job interview. If you choose clothes with contrasting colors, you could make a powerful and dominant impression. The worst color choice for a job interview, according to studies and opinions of specialists, is orange — it’s often associated with something unprofessional. -A business quit is the perfect choice if a manager is hiring for a senior-level position, a flower print dress won’t do in this case. But if you are looking for a job teaching children or a creative job, this type of attire is not just appropriate, but also preferable. -It’s better to impress your prospective employee with your professional achievements and attitude to work than with luxury brand logos. -Bad manicure, old clothes, and other little flaws, can make a very negative impression. Wear small and elegant pieces of jewelry like small earrings, bracelets, and watches. Your bag should have a clear shape. -Use social media to find out all about the company dress code and try to look like the other employees at the interview. SEO For Beginners: 3 Powerful SEO Tips to Rank #1 on Google in 2019

09:21
SEO For Beginners: 3 Powerful SEO Tips to Rank #1 on Google in 2019 Are you new to SEO and want to rank #1 on google this upcoming year? Here are 3 SEO strategies that will boost your rankings! #1: Focus on content Google has this update called Hummingbird, and with Hummingbird, websites who just have content on everything won't do as well as sites which focus on one single niche and are super thorough. You want to be VERY thorough with your SEO content. Poke holes in your content and fill them all up, so then that way people are like, "This is the end all site "that you should end up reading "if you're interested in dating online." #2: Optimize your title tag and your meta description Have you ever done a Google search, and noticed that every time you do it, there is this link at the top, and then there's this one sentence with a link at the top is called the title tag. And the description below is called the meta description. Now think of it this way, if you search for the phrase online dating, and you don't see the word online dating in neither the title or the description, are you going to click on the result? Well if you are, there's something wrong, because why would you click on a result that isn't related to what you're looking for? In addition to that, have you ever searched for a term like online dating? And have you ever noticed that the word isn't in the title or description? That's because Google tracks who's clicking on what listing, and they've learned that when a keyword is in the listing, that same keyword that you're searching for, they know you're way more likely to click through. So in your title tag and your meta description, make sure you include the keyword. But you can't just add the keyword, "online dating," right? The easiest way and what I would do and I wish it was this simple; I will just put "online dating, online dating, online dating, online dating." If I could put it 20 times so people would know that the article is on online dating, I wish I would get more clicks. But it's not that simple. Yes you have to include the keyword in your title and your description, but it has to be appealing. If it doesn't flow in a sentence, it's not easy to read, and it's not appealing or evoking curiosity, no one is gonna click through. #3: Use Google Search Console Did you know that Google gives you a tool that teaches you how to rank number one on Google? Yes I know that sounds ridiculous but it is true, and it's called Google Search Console. If you're not already a user of it, sign up. It doesn't cost a dollar. You're missing out if you're not using it. I can't emphasize that enough. So now that you're using Google Search Console...give it a few days because it takes some time to populate data. You'll see a screen that shows Search Analytics and this shows you all the pages on your website that are getting you traffic. But the cool thing about Google Search Console is they also show you which articles are getting impressions. Take all the keywords you're getting impressions for and start adding them to your copy. Now we have an article on Instagram, and it teaches you how to get over 300 targeted Instagram followers per day. The article is around 10,000 words. When I first wrote that article, it wasn't 10,000 words, it was roughly 2,500. I went to Google Search Console, I saw all the people that are searching for terms related to the article, I added them within that article. I made it more thorough and you know what? My SEO traffic more than tripled to that article. Yes it is that simple. And when I made that change, it didn't happen right away, but I noticed the results within 50 days. That's not a long time. In this lesson, you will learn three approaches to the IELTS Reading section and their pros and cons. The goal of this lesson is to help you finish the test on time without compromising your understanding of the readings. Learn how to read less while answering more questions correctly. After watching, make sure to do the quiz to test your understanding. Good luck on your test! https://www.engvid.com/ielts-3-reading-strategies/ https://www.GoodLuckIELTS.com/ https://www.writetotop.com/ WATCH NEXT IELTS Writing: The 3 Essay Types https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ-Vyqxn1To TRANSCRIPT Hi again. Welcome back to www.engvid.com. I'm Adam. Today's lesson is about IELTS. As usual, with IELTS lessons, I will be speaking a little bit faster than normal. It's good for your listening practice. But if you're not taking the IELTS, you can still listen and try to follow us as we go through this section. So, let's begin. Today, I'm going to look at the IELTS reading section. I'm going to look at three different approaches to tackling the IELTS reading section. Students always ask me: "What should I do with the reading? How do I do it? How can I finish on time? How can I answer more questions?" Right? So I'm going to give you three approaches, three different ways to try to do the IELTS. Okay? We're going to look at three different ways. They're completely different from each other. The most important thing I want to tell you before we start: you have to know what works for you. Okay? One of these approaches will work for you; the others may not. Practice all three. If you're comfortable with one and it seems to work for you, and your score seems to be getting better, stick with that one and practice that one. Don't try to do all three each time. Figure out which one works, and just practice that one the most. Okay? The most obvious one and the first one we're going to talk about: read the entire passage, and then tackle the questions. Now, a few things to say, good and bad, about this approach. So, you have 20 minutes, let's say, that you're going to start from the first passage, you're going to do about 17 minutes; the second passage, you're going to spend 20 minutes; the last passage, you're going to spend 23, 24, 25 minutes. So, you have to do this very fast. So: can you read the entire passage and do the questions in that timeframe? Okay? That's the question you must ask yourself. Are you a fast reader? Can you comprehend everything you're reading? How is your vocabulary? Things like this. Some people, they must read everything, from beginning to end, and then go to the questions. But they can also keep; they can retain the information they've read, so when they go to the questions, they know where to go back and look for the answers. Now, the good part about this is that you have all the information in your head once you've read the entire passage. The bad part is that you're going to be reading the passage twice. Okay? Or not the whole passage, but you're going to read big chunks of the passage twice. You'll have read it the first time, you'll go to the questions, and then you'll be reading again to find the answers, because you're looking for specific words now. When you get to the questions, sometimes it's only one word difference from what you read in the passage. So, do I recommend this? Yes and no. If you're a fast reader and you can comprehend, then yes, do that. If you're not a fast reader, then no, don't do this. You'll be wasting too much time and reading more than you need to. What I'm going to do with these two approaches is show you how to read less. So you don't need to read the entire passage; you just need to read the areas that contain the answers to the questions. So, the second approach: go straight to the questions. You look at the question. First of all, understand the type of the question. Is it a multiple choice? Is it a fill-in-the-blank, like a summary? Are you looking for like headings for each paragraph? Are you looking for the title? Etc. Figure out what you're looking for, read the question carefully, pick out the keywords in the question or the key idea in the question, and then scan the passage. Don't read the passage. Just quickly look everywhere for where that information ought to be.

eLearning course in Scientific Writing and Reference Management (eSWaRM) Trailer

00:56
Aim of the course: To enable health professionals to write scientific research articles that can be published and to equip them with skills to cite and manage references/ bibliography while writing using a reference management tool such as Mendeley. Course description: In this course, we will introduce participants to the different types of scientific articles and provide an outline of how to write an original research article describing their original scientific research. The course will also enable an understanding of the importance to cite other scientific literature while reporting research work and will equip them with skills to cite literature appropriately. They will learn about reference management software tools that are commonly used to read, manage and create bibliographies. The course will provide detailed hands-on training in Mendeley, one of the widely used reference management tools. It will also introduce them to use of this tool in networking, sharing and collaborating with other researchers and experts. Course objectives - To write an original research article in a format that can be published avoiding common language errors. - To appreciate the importance of citing to avoid plagiarism. - To cite literature appropriately and accurately - Paraphrasing and quoting and create citations linked to references in the bibliography of the research article. - To use a reference management tool - Mendeley to cite while they write, manage their references, create a bibliography and network, share or collaborate with other researchers. - To Identify common software tools for managing references other than Mendeley. Course rationale: Recent studies report that the research output in terms of publications from Indian medical institutions in particular is very poor. These institutions however, do mandate that postgraduate students conduct original research in partial fulfillment of their degrees. Thus while research is being conducted, very few appear as published research articles. This is not only limited to research conducted at medical institutions but also at other public health organisations. This may be partly due to the fact that writing and reference management are seldom taught in universities/medical schools/research courses. Also, there is a need to sensitise health professionals conducting research to the importance of citing and acknowledging another person's ideas in writing and that failing to do so accurately is plagiarism. This course is an attempt to address these gaps and to equip students and researchers with skills to write original scientific research articles with attention to the quality. Further, it also seeks to equip them with skills to use software such as Mendeley to cite while they write and efficiently manage their references. It is difficult to manually manage and cite the volume of literature available today. _ _ _ _ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/iphindia Twitter: https://twitter.com/iphindia Google+: https://goo.gl/sdMCao Linkedin: https://goo.gl/3nfpQ9 Website: http://iphindia.org #Elearning #Course #OnlineLearningCourse #PublicHealthCourse #ElearningPublicHealth #Scientific #WritingResearchPapers #ScientificWritingCourse #ReferenceManagement #Research #Citations #Elearning #Education #OnlineCourses #ScientificWriting #Writing #Science #Lecture #PublishingYourResearch #PreparingAScientificManuscript #ScientificWritingAssistant #WritingScientificPapers #WritingScientificArticles #ScientificWritingStanford #ScientificWritingSkills #ScientificWritingTips #ScientificWritingWorkshop #ScientificWritingSoftware #WritingScientificNotation #ScientificWritingSyllabus #ScientificWritingPdf #ScientificWritingЧтоЭто #ScientificWritingПеревод #ScientificWritingПредмет #ScientificWritingAReaderAndWritersGuide #ScientificWritingAndCommunicationPapersProposalsAndPresentations #ScientificWritingAndCommunication #ScientificWritingIs #ScientificWritingLecture

7 Ways to Survive Natural Disasters

09:35
How to Survive Natural Disasters. Here’s a list of survival tips that can save your life in an emergency. We live in a time when natural disasters occur more and more often and get more and more devastating. Many of us believe we should blame the human race for that. Whether it’s true or not, we all want to know how to survive when those disasters happen. Some rules are universal for most natural disasters. A national campaign called Ready was started in the United States to inform the population about how to get ready for and survive in different emergency situations. It recommends having a basic survival kit to provide you with the most important things just in case. Remember you will need to have enough food, water, and other supplies for at least 72 hours after the disaster. “Other supplies” include a battery powered weather radio, flashlight, first aid kit, a whistle, a dust mask, personal sanitation items (such as moist towelettes), pliers, can opener for food, maps of your area and an emergency cell phone with backup batteries. TIMESTAMPS Hurricane 0:40 Tornado 1:45 Tsunami 3:15 Flood 4:10 Avalanche 5:03 Wildfire 6:00 Earthquake 7:00 SUMMARY - If a hurricane starts while you are driving, leave your vehicle and find a building to shelter in, or a ditch. Stopping in an overpass will not save you. If your home is a trailer and there is enough time to flee to a safe area – do it. - If a tornado starts when you are in a public building, follow the same rules. You want to stay as low as possible. Avoid windows and open spaces such as auditoriums, gyms, and large hallways. Desks and benches can give you some extra protection if you get under them. It is impossible to outrun a tornado. - Tsunamis are so fast they hit the coast minutes after the earthquake. Remember that tall buildings, including hotels right in the beach area, can provide an excellent shelter. In case a tsunami finds you at sea, stay there instead of going back to the coast. It won’t be a safe haven. - Don’t try to be the bravest person around and stay in your house once you hear the evacuation warning. Leave for safety in higher grounds with your important papers in a waterproof container. If a flash flood gives you no time to evacuate and the water is all around you, don’t try to swim across it. - When an avalanche starts, try to move to the side of the slope as fast as you can. There will be more snow in the center of the flow. To move faster, drop any heavy equipment you have on you. If you can’t escape it, try using a sturdy tree to keep you above the snow. - If you find yourself in a wildfire area, it is critically important to ensure that you can breathe. If you fail to do it, you can pass out in the midst of a danger zone. Use a wet cloth to cover your nose and mouth and escape to safety. - If an earthquake starts when you are inside, stay where you were. Experts say that during an earthquake you must drop to the floor, get underneath a table, cover your neck and head with one hand, and hold on with the other hand. Your entire body must be under the table. Don’t try to run out of the building - the exterior of a building is one of the most dangerous places.
