*Notice to teachers, the biological term "libido" is mentioned in this video. Not meant to be offensive. It's just a word with gender in Spanish.* In this video, we're going to be covering 10 rules (with exceptions) for how to know if a noun will be masculine or feminine in Spanish. Please remember that you don't have to memorize this list of words/rules! But it might be a nice reference for you to watch every now and again. And Native speakers don't even pay attention to the "rules". You'll notice that with animals especially they might make a gender for an animal that is grammatically genderless. Regardless, hopefully you find this helpful! Enjoy! *Alerta could be masculine or feminine but is more often seen feminine.

In this lesson, I go over the whole masculine/feminine thing in Spanish. While not nearly as hard to "get" as all the verb conjugations, the sexuality of nouns still gives Spanish students a lot of trouble at the beginning. Or at least that's how it was for me. If you only took one thing away from this lesson, I'd want it to be don't worry about this too much. Follow my directions in the video. I tell you what to focus on, what not to focus on, and the best way to get this stuff down. But if you go out there and get it wrong every single time. If you treat every feminine word as a masculine one and every masculine word as a feminine one, you're still going to be understood 99% of the time. But it's better to get this right now, because in future videos, you'll be learning more "stuff" that will follow these same rules exactly. If you understand this video, you'll understand the future videos without much trouble at all. So... watch the video then memorize the words using the Flashcard Strategy @ https://spanishdude.com/quickies/flashcard-strategy/ Resources from this video @ https://spanishdude.com/quickies/nouns-sexuality/ Get updated of new videos/lessons/posts (it's free) @ https://spanishdude.com/free-updates/ English not your first language? The concept of gender in language is difficult to grasp for English-speakers, because it just doesn't exist in English. But in other languages, some objects are masculine and some are feminine! It may sound kind of sexist, but that's Italian works, so we have to understand this to speak the language properly. Let's check it out! How to understand the basic nature of masculine and feminine energy, sexual polarity and how to employ these different energies properly to attract the lovers you want effortlessly and avoid unnecessary confusion that leads to rejection. In this video coaching newsletter I discuss an email from a lesbian woman who is unsure of her own nature and is confused about masculine and feminine energy. She has dated several women who have had different dominant masculine and feminine essences. Her current girlfriend is neither more masculine nor feminine than her and this is causing her to question herself and how she should show up in her relationship. It’s a great email that shows the importance of understanding yourself, understanding the differences between masculine and feminine energy, knowing yourself, knowing your dominant natural essence and how not understanding this can ruin the sexual polarity and attraction. How this applies to all types of relationships: gay, straight, bisexual, etc. “You must know who you are and what your true nature, values and goals are before you will be great in your friendships, career and romantic relationships. Otherwise, if you are unsure of yourself you will invite others to take you for granted, bully you, not respect you and not value your time and what you have to offer. Until you learn to value, love and respect yourself, you won’t value your time or do anything useful or valuable with it.” ~ Coach Corey Wayne Click the link below to read the article “Masculine & Feminine Energy Confusion” on my website: https://understandingrelationships.com/masculine-feminine-energy-confusion/34324 If you have not read my book, “How To Be A 3% Man” yet, that would be a good starting place for you. Watch more Beginner Spanish Lessons videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/454040-How-to-Use-Masculine-and-Feminine-Nouns-Spanish-Lessons Just learning how to speak Spanish? Learn the difference between masculine and feminine nouns in Espanol with this Spanish lesson for beginners. Spanish is a language that has words that are masculine and words that are feminine. It is very important to know which words are feminine and which words are masculine, because otherwise it's very confusing and sometimes we don't even understand what the people are telling us if we don't know the difference. How does this work? Nouns, meaning names of things or ideas, can be either feminine or masculine. When we're talking about animals or people it's very easy - gender means sex. So this is how it works. Una nina means a girl, una nina. Notice it finished with an "ah" sound, una nina. Now, if I say un nino, it means a boy. Un nino. Ends with an "o." Now, some words that are not people or animals have a set gender, and that gender is completely arbitrary. It just happens to be so because of the sound of the word. So for instance, the word for table, mesa, that's a feminine word because it ends in the sound "ah," mesa. So this is the rule. Most words ending in the sound "o" are masculine, like libro, book, auto, car. Most words ending in the sound "ah" are feminine, like casa, house, or moneda, coin. Most words ending in the sound "yon" are feminine, such as situacion, like situation in English, situacion, and accion, action. These are feminine words. And all the words ending in the sound "odd," spelled ad, are feminine too. Sociedad, society, and ciudad, city. They're all feminine words.

Take this short test to find out which side drives you: masculine or feminine. You can lean more towards femininity or masculinity no matter what your gender is, and it sure affects your life, character and choices. After each question, you’ll see how many points you get for your choice, so grab a piece of paper and a pen to keep a tally. In case you’re more on the masculine side, you appreciate stability, and your freedom means a lot to you. You’re strong, confident, and independent. If your masculine and feminine halves take turns driving you, you’ve got the best of both worlds. You can keep your head straight and follow strict logic at work, then fall in love and do something spontaneous the next day. In case your feminine side dominates, you’re kind-hearted, caring, sentimental, and creative. There’s nothing you wouldn’t do for your family. Watch more Beginner Spanish Lessons videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/455178-How-to-Use-Masculine-Nouns-and-El-Spanish-Lessons Just learning how to speak Spanish? Learn how to use masculine nouns and "el" with this Spanish lesson for beginners. Now remember that in Spanish nouns, articles, and adjectives have gender and number; this means that the table, la mesa, the article "la" is feminine, "mesa" is feminine too. And, for example, el carro, the car, "carro" is a masculine noun and el, the, is a masculine article. When we talk about number what we mean is plural or singular, just like in English we have car and cars, well in Spanish we also have carro and carros. Alright let us see how this concept works in full phrases. Let us start with masculine nouns. El actor es elegante, the actor is elegant. El taco es delicioso, the taco is delicious. El hotel es moderno, the hotel is modern. El tren es necessario, the train is necessary. "El" in the beginning of the sentence means 'the' as in the train and this word, "el," is only used for masculine singular words. For instance, I cannot say the trains with this word "el." El actor, el diccionario. Let us repeat; el actor es elegante. El taco es delicioso. El hotel es moderno. El tren es necessario.
