Mean Reversion Trading - Indicators, Tips and Strategy http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/strategies/strategies-tips.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! What Indicators to Use for a Mean Reversion Strategy? A mean reversion traders' toolkit. Mean reversion tells when will the price series revert to their mean or average over time if you may. If you are a mean reversion trader what tool or indicators should you look at to give you that idea that potentially things are running out of steam and we are looking for that retracement back. Going back on the difference between a trend trader and a mean reversion trader - a trend trader would ride a trend and expect it to continue going while a mean reversion trader would see the same thing and look to fade it coming back to some kind of mean (hence mean reversion). The mean could be VWAP, a moving average, a support or resistance level - you are trying to find the price level when things are looking a little bit stretched and likely to reverse back. This works best in a range bound environment where the market is moving up and down. The first one is to look at oscillators like the RSI (relative strength index) , stochastics - anything like that - those will be oscillating between 0 and 1 so when the price goes to a high level those will go into oversold or overbought conditions. That is one way to filter out things. Here you can bolt on divergences to confirm or negate the trading setup. Of course some people would say that catching end of trends is a dangerous game and this is kind of right in strong trending days. Investing Lessons from Mean Reversion

03:53
Mean Reversion is a mental model from the field of statistics. It says that an event that is not average will be followed by an event that is closer to the average. Mean reversion, also known as Regression to the mean, is exhibited by all random events. The intensity with which mean reversion affects an activity is directly proportional to the element of luck controlling the outcome in that activity. So activities like swimming and chess, where luck plays no role and the outcome is determined by skill, mean reversion doesn’t occur. Mean Reversion has strong implications in stock market. As a result periods of above average performance are usually followed by below average returns and periods of below average performance are typically followed by above average returns. Which means, in selecting a mutual fund, because of Mean Reversion, you shouldn’t go just by the outcome i.e., fund performance. The trick is to look at the process that leads to the outcome. The second trick for dampening the effect of mean reversion is to take a bigger sample size. Which means you shouldn’t rely on short term performance records. If you are looking at ten year performance figures of a fund then odds are high that the fluctuations introduced by randomness and luck have evened out over long term and what you see is a reasonable proxy for fund manager’s skill. What is MEAN REVERSION? What does MEAN REVERSION mean? MEAN REVERSION meaning & explanation

03:06
What is MEAN REVERSION? What does MEAN REVERSION mean? MEAN REVERSION meaning - MEAN REVERSION definition - MEAN REVERSION explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. In finance, mean reversion is the assumption that a stock's price will tend to move to the average price over time. Using mean reversion in stock price analysis involves both identifying the trading range for a stock and computing the average price using analytical techniques taking into account considerations such as earnings, etc. When the current market price is less than the average price, the stock is considered attractive for purchase, with the expectation that the price will rise. When the current market price is above the average price, the market price is expected to fall. In other words, deviations from the average price are expected to revert to the average. Stock reporting services commonly offer moving averages for periods such as 50 and 100 days. While reporting services provide the averages, identifying the high and low prices for the study period is still necessary. Mean reversion has the appearance of a more scientific method of choosing stock buy and sell points than charting, because precise numerical values are derived from historical data to identify the buy/sell values, rather than trying to interpret price movements using charts (charting, also known as technical analysis). Some asset classes, such as exchange rates, are observed to be mean reverting; however, this process may last for years and thus is not of value to a short-term investor. Mean reversion should demonstrate a form of symmetry since a stock may be above its historical average approximately as often as below. A historical mean reversion model will not fully incorporate the actual behavior of a security's price. For example, new information may become available that permanently affects the long-term valuation of an underlying stock. In the case of bankruptcy, it may cease to trade completely and never recover to its former historical average. In finance, the term mean reversion has a different meaning than return or regression to the mean in statistics. Jeremy Siegel uses the term return to the mean to describe a general principle, a financial time series in which "returns can be very unstable in the short run but very stable in the long run." Quantitatively, it is the standard deviation of average annual returns that declines faster than the inverse of the holding period, implying that the process is not a random walk, but that periods of lower returns are then followed by compensating periods of higher returns, for example in seasonal businesses.

Mean Reversion Trading Strategy Ideas 👍

Mean Reversion Trading Strategy Ideas http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/strategies/strategies-tips.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! Mean Reversion Trading: Tips & Strategy Mean Reversion is the kind of strategy that many hedge funds like to use - if you have a mean - any excursion away from the mean - traders are looking to short stocks that have been moving too high away from the mean and buy stocks that have overshooted on the downside. Whichever benchmark for the mean which could be VWAP or a moving average. If you're swing trading one idea is to short the highest 3-day percentage gainers - you don't want to do it with every stock but you could do it with a basket of stocks. Another idea if you're swing trading is go long on the highest 3-day losers. If you're day trading one idea is to short stocks that are up more 1.5 times their ATR. Conversely, you can go long on any stock that is down more than 1.5 times its ATR. Other ideas if you're day trading or swing trading is to make use of a moving average; for intraday trading you can use a VWAP. The One Thing You Need For A Good Mean Reversion Trade

05:32
For more trading ideas visit: https://research.jbmarwood.com https://jbmarwood.com The one thing you need to make a good mean reversion trade is that you need things to stay the same. There’s normally something that’s happened to make the stock drop 10 or 20 per cent or whatever it is. If it’s dropped for a real reason, like a structural change, cycle change, or if there is real game changing news, the chances of that stock snapping back to the mean and giving a profit for your trade is much smaller. When this happens, you get momentum and this is obviously the enemy of a mean reversion strategy. A good example can be seen in Tesla. Tesla pulled back significantly, the stock dropped around 20% the RSI 4 went under 10 so this is a clear candidate for a mean reversion trade. This is a good example, because when Tesla dropped, there was some negative news, but for me, it wasn’t BIG news, it wasn’t the type of structural news that is going to have a long term impact on the business. And that’s what made this an excellent mean reversion setup. Because, we’ve seen a big move, but really, not an awful lot has changed. Now, if we compare this to a stock like General Electric. We have a totally different picture. You can see from the chart GE has been steadily falling, RSI is consistently low and if you’d tried the mean reversion trade on this stock, you’d be holding it for a long time waiting for it to snap back because it never does. And so you would have lost money. And again, there’s a reason. And the reason is that GE is undergoing significant structural change. The company has been severely mis managed, it’s made some very bad decisions and it’s been losing money. Those aren’t things that can be easily reversed, and so it’s no surprise that the stock price hasn’t reversed either. So you can see with those two examples, how price can rebound or it can keep going. And that’s the tip for today. Mean reversion requires things stay the same. You don’t want a structural change when making a mean reversion trade.

Dirty Strategies in Algorithmic Trading: Momentum Ignition Strategy ⛏️

06:05
Momentum Ignition Strategy http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/course/technical-analysis.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! Understanding the Momentum Ignition Strategy that some HFT and Hedge Funds/Quants use. What is a Momentum Ignition Algo? We have those algos out there which are really abusive algos and operate on the verge of illegality in the eyes of the SEC But what is the Momentum Ignition Algorithm? Momentum Ignition Algorithm is a trading algorithm that attempts to encourage other participants to trade quickly causing a rapid price move. This algo will either go out there and spike price quickly in one direction over a certain level (we've seen retail versions of that in terms of stop hunting) or a burst of volume in one direction. Basically they're doing something that is going to induce other participants to trade off the back of that move. The way they profit from that is to be either pre-positioned (they already bought and create momentum on which they could sell) or they're going to fade that and trade a mean reversion trade. So they're kind of trying to spoof other algos to participate. Keep in mind that some high frequency trading (HFT) will utilise momentum ignition to spark the 'handle', other algorithmic trading companies may be in the hunt for such 'ignition' to handle from behind.

You rely on mean reversion when trading the FTSE. What is mean reversion. Tell us more. Tim trades on Ayondo http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/ccount/click.php?id=72 and is a top trader there. So are you essentially day trading the FTSE? I think the FTSE 100 generally trades within a range; at least about 75% of the time. With the FTSE 100 if it goes too far in one direction, it is likely to go back in the other direction. It is one of those markets that has a tendency to revert to the mean. I prefer range bound markets which suits my trading style.

NEW Trading System: Mean-Reversion (Stocks Over 50 Day MA)

06:41
More free trading systems and market research: http://www.asxmarketwatch.com/ This week we put to the test a broader market Mean Reversion trading system, called out by Chris Weston on the ASX. It states that when fewer than 10% of ASX Top 200 stocks are above their 50 Day Moving Average, then that is (historically) a good time to buy. But is it really? We put it through its paces. We look back over a longer timeframe - 15 years instead of 5, and do a monte carlo test (1000 random variations of stocks in the trading system) instead of just one back-test. It trades off of the daily chart and has just two rules. If you are exploring mechanical based trading as a way to become consistently profitable or if you are looking for an additional strategy to your already mechanical trading portfolio then I think you’re going to like what I am about to show you. I’ll show you the entry and exit signals over on my charting software and then some performance figures over the 13 years that I have tested the strategy on. It uses Relative Strength Index Indicator to identify the signals. Much credit goes to Larry Connors and Cesar Alvarez for introducing me to this trading strategy. The strategy successfully takes advantage of the S&P 500’s Mean Reversion tendencies on the daily timeframe. This is a follow up to a previous video on technical indicators. Binary Options Strategy - Mean Reversion

07:33
http://www.binaryoptionsprofithack.com/ I am definitely a "with the trend" trader, but sometimes there are glaring mean reversion trades that are worth taking. This was a case of range starting to expand as price bumped up against support. There seemed to be one pull back to the moving average left before price took off upwards, or downwards. It's on the five minute chart. I tend to think you make better trades when you have to think about them a bit more and you are not in a mad rush to enter a bid. 15-30 minute trade durations are the sweet spot, IMHO.

Criteria as follows: 1) The price must be touching or above the upper Bollinger Band. 2) Stochastics must be in an overbought condition. 3) You must have a reversal candle at that point. You could tailor this strategy according to what you expect the price to do in particular the stakes (risk) you want to take and stop placements. The general idea of this trade is that you're looking for a reversal; you've got the overbought condition, flush, exhaustion and the candlestick pattern to get in. You could end up with a gem of a trade that gets you in on Day 1 or Day 2 of a big trend reversal.

Mean Reversion Gaps - Strategy promoted by Adrian Manz from TraderInsight

Find out more here: https://easycators.com/thinkscript/adrian-manzs-mean-reversion-gap-strategy-for-thinkorswim-includes-strategy-script-scanner-watchlist-columns-and-indicator/ Custom ThinkOrSwim gap scanner and indicators / watchlist columns package to help trade this mean reversion strategy by Dr. Adrian Manz. This is an interesting trading strategy because it takes advantage of a mathematical edge -- the fact that anything happening outside of 2 standard deviations is a really odd occurrence and is statistically likely to have a subsequent mean reversion move. This strategy and indicator set helps you find the setups that are likely to have a mean reversion and know where to enter them. 130: Building Mean Reversion Trading Strategies Part 2 with Cesar Alvarez

36:02
And we’re back for the 2nd episode in this 3-part series on building Mean Reversion strategies with Cesar Alvarez from Alvarez Quant Trading. In the first episode we discussed the goal of Mean Reversion trading, how to select a trading universe, a number of effective techniques to measuring Mean Reversion and how to combine indicators to identify better quality trades. If you haven’t listened to that episode yet, you should check it out first here. In this 2nd episode in the Mean Reversion series, Cesar will be sharing: - How to classify market conditions and adjust Mean Reversion strategies to the current market, - Tips to choosing trades with a higher probability of success when you have more trades than your account can take, - How the maximum number of positions you trade affects the role of luck on trading results and how to produce more ‘reliable’ results instead, - Why it can be a good idea to have different strategies that enter at market and on limit orders instead of just one or the other, - The impacts of stops on returns and why they don’t often protect you from the really big losses, Implementing multiple exits, what works best in Mean Reversion (and what to avoid) and testing exit combinations. Watch out for the 3rd episode in the series, where Cesar answers all the questions submitted by Better System Trader listeners.

Mathematical Trading Strategies

01:13:21
Many trading strategies are based on perceived relationships between the prices of different assets. Some of these relationships are based on fundamental relationships e.g. when oil goes up oil companies do better but transportation companies like airlines do worse. Most of the strategies based on fundamental relationships have been exploited to the point where they are no longer profitable. Using methods developed by Robert Engle and Steve Grainger (for which they received the Nobel Memorial Prize) on can find portfolios of stocks whose aggregate price is mean reverting and one can trade such a portfolio very profitable. The problem is to discover these stock portfolios and determine when these relationships end and the strategy breaks down. We describe an algorithm to search for pairs and successfully trade them. A very important part of the strategy is to determine when to exit and we discuss some possible ways to determine this point.

Day Trading: Specializing, automating, using stats | Jeff Davis

EP 070: Specializing, automating, and using stats for high probability trade setups w/ Jeff Davis Jeff is a day trader who specializes in the S&P futures, and predominately trades a mean-reversion strategy which is built upon data and statistical probabilities. Across his 20+ year trading career, Jeff has also been heavily involved in the process of developing and deploying algorithmic strategies—but slightly less these days. In this interview we talk about Jeff’s prop days, risks of being a one-man-business, automated trading, specializing, statistics, and more. From this conversation, I think you’ll pick up on the underlying theme, which is all about building confidence in your strategy and then being able to size up when you have an edge. - - - - - - LINKS - - - - - - · More interviews: https://chatwithtraders.com · Free resources: https://chatwithtraders.com/resources · Sponsored by Technician: http://technicianapp.com/ · Twitter: https://twitter.com/chatwithtraders · Facebook: http://facebook.com/chatwithtraders · Instagram: https://instagram.com/chatwithtraders_ · Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/chat-with-traders · Stitcher: http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/chat-with-traders

How to Build a Pairs Trading Strategy: The Secret To Finding Profit In Pairs Trading

07:51
In this video we discuss pair trading http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/strategies/pairs_trading.html - what is pair trading. If you found value in watching this video, PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE so we can do more! Here’s how it works: When you pair trade stocks, you buy the underperformer, and you sell the outperformer. You are betting on mean reversion. You utilise the pair trading strategy to try extracting money by trading two companies that are in similar industries. As such here you are trading the differential between two instruments as opposed to taking a position in one. This is basically a mean reversion strategy. This trading strategy involves studying how the historic price of one market performs in relation to another, and using this as a cue to identify whether the price of a market will go up or down from its present position, and potentially when. Pairs trading commonly involves taking two stocks from the same industry, like BP and Shell for example. These stocks tend to follow each other, as they’re affected by the same types of economic factors. If you notice that BP is trading at a discount to Shell (relatively speaking), then this provides you with a trading opportunity. If you buy BP stock and sell an equal value of Shell shares you can profit as the shares move back to their historic ‘equilibrium’. Your goal here is to profit from the fact that one stock has become too expensive relative to the other. Introduction to Pairs Trading

47:33
Pairs trading is a form of mean reversion that has a distinct advantage of always being hedged against market movements. It is generally a high alpha strategy when backed up by some rigorous statistics. This notebook runs through the following concepts What is cointegration? How to test for cointegration? What is pairs trading? How to find cointegrated pairs? How to generate a tradeable signal? The notebook is intended to be an introduction to the concept, and whereas this notebook only features one pair, you would probably want your algorithm to consider many pairs at once. Mean Reversion: Statistical Fact or Dangerous Delusion?

24:01
Much of investing, especially contrarian, is built on the belief that things revert back to norms, either over time or in the cross section. Thus, when you argue that stocks are over priced at a PE of 25, because the historic average is 16, you are buying into mean reversion, just as you when you argue that a steel company trading at 6 times earnings is cheap, because the sector average is 12. While mean reversion is a powerful force, I argue that there is more nuance than we let on, that structural changes can lay waste to it and converting statistical significant to real money is difficult, using the Shiller PE as an illustrative example.
