5 Things Nobody Will Tell You About Video Editing (Adobe Premiere Pro CC Tutorial)

10:50
Get the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud: http://bit.ly/2ekhRiF In this video I will share 5 things that no one will tell about video editing that I had to learn in between the lines. 1. It's probably a preset: In 8 out of 10 cases when someone asks me how an effect is done and I look into it and come to an answer, it turns out it's just an app, or preset, or plugin etc. Almost everyone uses shortcuts and templates. Don't be too quick to think you can't do something, just find the right tools and resources. It's rare and I commend those few editors who are really artisanal with their craft nowadays. (0:20) 2. Editing is all the things you DON'T see: Things like cutting, trimming, arranging, selecting etc. are all elements of work involved in video editing that are unseen in the final project but are definitely felt. It's easy to think about results in terms of visual effects you can see but good editing can also be invisible. (2:45) 3. You can't always fix it in Post: Sometimes preproduction is just as important in creating an effect or result and it can't be recreated with a simple preset or button. Things like lighting, set design, materials etc. just cant be recreated so easily. (4:45) 4. Garbage In = Garbage Out: You can polish a turd but it's still a turd. Of course story and content can trump actual picture quality, but if you are working with poor source material, it will be harder to color grade, apply effects, cut etc in a visually pleasing way. Lighting is very important. (6:20) 5. Editing doesn't (always) matter: Not everything is meant to be a feature length film. What about livestreams, uncut one takes, videos for social media, memes etc. Editing is the creation and curation of content and so it doesn't always need to follow the same rules as long as you know when to break them. When Writers SHOULDN'T Work with a Freelance Developmental Editor

13:25
Are you looking to hire a developmental editor to work with you on your manuscript? In this iWriterly episode, we will discuss when writers SHOULDN’T work with a freelance developmental editor. WHAT IS A DEVELOPMENTAL EDITOR? Developmental editors assist authors prior to a book’s publication in big-picture editing, such as story structure, character arc, plot development, pacing, and much more. They are not ghostwriters and do not rewrite books for writers. In addition, they are not copyeditors, who work to improve line-level accuracy and readability as well as to spot errors, inconsistencies, omission, and repetition. The role of a developmental editor is to teach writers to identify the gaps in their stories and characters. Developmental editors will pinpoint problems within a story and offer suggestions for how to improve it. Writers have the freedom to address those problems in the way that best suits the story (and how they want to tell it). In other words, developmental editors do not dictate the direction of the book but offer suggestions. Or, they may simply identify the weaknesses within the story, depending on the style of the given editor. ~~~ OTHER VIDEOS IN THIS BOOK EDITING SERIES: What is a Freelance Developmental Book Editor? https://youtu.be/nTMkaf-46lA How to Become a Freelance Developmental Editor: Seven Qualifications https://youtu.be/dYwG_hZD0zM ~~~ READ MEG'S BLOG: When Writers Shouldn't Work With a Freelance Developmental Editor https://iwriterly.com/2018/07/17/when-writers-shouldnt-work-with-a-freelance-editor/ ~~~ // ABOUT MEG: // Meg LaTorre is a writer, AuthorTuber/BookTuber, developmental book editor, and former literary agent with a background in magazine and book publishing, medical/technical writing, journalism, and website creation. Free Video Editing Software for Animators

09:46
A free video editing software is a must have tool for any animator who uses free animation programs such as Firealpaca and Krita. This is because most free animation programs don’t have an export option that allows you to directly convert your movie into a playable video file like an mp4. I recently discovered a free video editing software known as Openshot that can turn image sequences into a video file. This is great because all animation programs always have an option to export an animated scene as an image sequence. So in this tutorial, I am going to show you how turn your animated scene into a video by using Open Shot. ------ Show Notes and Resources --------- Open shot: https://www.openshot.org/ Subscribe to my newsletter: http://eepurl.com/cj2-hT ------------- Social Media ----------------- Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1HMpk4B Twitter: http://bit.ly/1DE6lIL Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/ianmaiguapictures ------------- Music Credits ----------------- Music Credit: LAKEY INSPIRED Track Name: "On My Way" Music By: LAKEY INSPIRED @ https://soundcloud.com/lakeyinspired Original upload HERE - https://soundcloud.com/lakeyinspired/... How to Effectively Manage Your Social Media Platforms as a Writer

11:39
Being an author no longer means only writing. Learn how to take your author platform and social media presence to the next level—without losing your sanity—in this iWriterly video. The publishing industry is competitive. Specifically, traditional publishing is far more difficult to break into than it used to be. Writers not only need to query an agent with a polished, nearly shelf-ready manuscript, but in order to stand out in a query box amongst hundreds of other queries, writers often need to have a standout author platform as well. While it isn’t necessary to have an author platform to get published, having this tool in your toolkit could mean the difference between getting noticed by agents or editors and a form rejection. For self-published authors, on the other hand, an author platform is vital to spreading the word about their books, as they do not have the marketing support traditionally-published authors receive (though, what “support” means can vary from title to title and from publishing house to publishing house in traditional publishing). In short, it is in a writer’s benefit to establish a strong author platform to either get published or to have success while publishing in today’s modern world. *** SOCIAL MEDIA SCHEDULING TOOLS: Hootsuite https://hootsuite.com/ Social Oomph https://www.socialoomph.com/ Later https://later.com/ (Please be aware: This is not a sponsored video.) *** AUTHOR PLATFORM SERIES: Author Platform Basics https://youtu.be/tv71wgUI7cI Author Platform: What Should You Put on Your Author Website? https://youtu.be/HSrcjLJl6fg Author Platform: What Social Media Platforms Should Writers Use? https://youtu.be/3FSlb2Gt3hQ *** ABOUT MEG: Meg LaTorre is a writer, AuthorTuber/BookTuber, developmental book editor, and former literary agent with a background in magazine and book publishing, medical/technical writing, journalism, and website creation.
