Follow this step by step tutorial to learn how to setup MySql ODBC driver for windows and how it is configured. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ ODBC stands for Open Database Connectivity. It is used to provide a connection for the database. It acts like a bridge between the database manager and the Operating System. With this driver installed and configured, we can use our database with various applications such as spreadsheets, reporting tools or various other software suits. In this tutorial we will learn to set up the same my sql ODBC driver Step 1- Download First, let's download my sql ODBC driver. It can be downloaded from dev.mysql.com. Over there, choose the version according to the operating system we are running. For this tutorial, we will be setting the ODBC MySQL driver in windows. Step 2- Installation After finishing with the download, run the setup for installation. Just follow the step by step process of the installation wizard to install the driver. Step 3- System Settings After the installation, we have to configure the connection. For that, open up the Control panel and click on the System and Security option. Step 4-Admin tools A window will open up with several options in it, open up the Administrative Tools option from there. Step 5-Data Source All of the Administrative tools would be displayed in a separate window. We have to setup our database connection, so for that click ODBC Data Sources option. Step 6- Adding System DSN A window will open up having different tabs in it. Choose System DSN tab and then click Add button on right. Step 7- Choosing ODBC option A window will open up having the list of ODBC drivers in it. As we have to configure our ODBC driver for MySQL, choose My SQL ODBC Driver option and click on Finish. Step 8-Configuring the Connection With that done, the odbc mysql configuration window will open up. In that window, give the data source a name, if MySQL instance is installed in the same pc in which we are setting up the ODBC driver, give "localhost" as a name of TCP IP server and leave the port as default. Give the appropriate user name for which you have granted access to your database, here let us assign "root" in user as it has access to all the databases by default and leave password field blank as root is configured with empty password by default. After that, we have to choose the required database which we want to be linked through this connection from the databases drop down menu in the bottom. After that, click OK button. Step 9- Connection Appeared In List The connection would appear in the System DSN Connections list. This connection basically contains the information of the server on which MySQL is installed and the database which has to be used. And this is how MySQL ODBC driver is setup in windows.

mysql tutorial for beginners (3/8) : Setting Up a Development Server If you wish to develop Internet applications but don’t have your own development server, You will have to upload every modification you make to a server somewhere else on the Web before you can test it. Even on a fast broadband connection, this can still represent a significant slowdown in development time. On a local computer, however, testing can be as easy as saving an update. Once you have your own development server, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without one, and it’s easy to set one up. What Is a WAMP, MAMP, or LAMP? WAMP, MAMP, and LAMP are abbreviations for “Windows, Apache, MySQL, and PHP,” “Mac, Apache, MySQL, and PHP,” and “Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP.” These abbreviations describe a fully functioning setup, used for developing dynamic Internet web pages. WAMPs, MAMPs, and LAMPs come in the form of a package that binds the bundled programs together so that you don’t have to install and set them up separately. This means you can simply download and install a single program, and follow a few easy prompts, to get your web development server up and running in the quickest time with a minimum hassle. During installation, several default settings are created for you. The security configurations of such an installation will not be as tight as on a production web server, because it is optimized for local use. For these reasons, you should never install such a setup as a production server. But for developing and testing websites and applications, one of these installations should be entirely sufficient. If you choose not to go the WAMP/MAMP/LAMP route for building your own development system, you should know that downloading and integrating the various parts yourself can be very time consuming and may require a lot of research in order to configure everything fully. After taking this long introduction, about why we should have development server, let’s have one: follow the steps mentioned in this video Accessing MySQL There are three main ways in which you can interact with MySQL: using a command line, via a web interface such as phpMyAdmin, and through a programming language like PHP. for now, let’s look at the first option Accessing MySQL via the Command Line. If you installed WAMP, you will be able to access the MySQL executable from the following directory: C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.6.17\bin By default, the initial MySQL user will be root and will not have had a password set So, to enter MySQL’s command-line interface, select Start→Run, enter CMD into the Run box, and press Return. This will call up a Windows command prompt. From there, enter the following : C:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.6.17\bin\mysql -u root This command tells MySQL to log you in as user root, without a password. You will now be logged into MySQL and can start entering commands. So, to be sure everything is working as it should be, enter the following; SHOW databases; You are now ready to move on to the next tutorial to learn about MySQL syntax and the different data type available there, Subscribe for more: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=saf3al2a SWE.Safaa Al-Hayali - saf3al2a

The reason is that recent Ubuntu installation (maybe others also), mysql is using by default the UNIX or auth_socket plugin. 1. set root user to mysql_native_password $ sudo mysql -u root -p # I had to use "sudo" since is new installation mysql:~ USE mysql; SELECT User, Host, plugin FROM mysql.user; mysql:~ UPDATE user SET plugin='mysql_native_password' WHERE User='root'; mysql:~ FLUSH PRIVILEGES; mysql:~ exit; $ service mysql restart 2. Add new db_user with you system_user(recommended) $ sudo mysql -u root # I had to use "sudo" since is new installation mysql:~ USE mysql; mysql:~ CREATE USER 'YOUR_SYSTEM_USER'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY ''; mysql:~ GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON * . * TO 'YOUR_SYSTEM_USER'@'localhost'; mysql:~ UPDATE user SET plugin='auth_socket' WHERE User='YOUR_SYSTEM_USER'; mysql:~ FLUSH PRIVILEGES; mysql:~ exit; $ service mysql restart Remember that if you use option #2 you'll have to connect to mysql as your system username (mysql -u YOUR_SYSTEM_USER) Short further steps create database, tables, attributes, insert data MySQL Connector/J use it inside your java project connect with the path

By default in mysql database server max_connections is set to 151. This value indicates how many maximum concurrent connections mysql server can handle. If mysql reaches to it maximum (max) limit then you can see errors like "too many connections". I assume that you have enough hardware resources (Mainly RAM )to handle more connections, here with this article I will share a TIP to increase max_connections in mysql. You can also change / update other variables in same way

mysql tutorial for beginners (7/8) : Foreign Keys (FK) & Join Foreign key relationships involve a parent table that holds the central data values, and a child table with identical values pointing back to its parent. The FOREIGN KEY clause is specified in the child table. The parent and child tables must use the same storage engine. Corresponding columns in the foreign key and the referenced key must have similar data types. The size and sign of integer types must be the same. Now, we can say: MySQL supports foreign keys, which let you cross-reference related data across tables, and foreign key constraints, which help keep this spread-out data consistent. How Foreign keys help guarantee referential integrity? For storage engines supporting foreign keys, MySQL rejects any INSERTor UPDATE operation that attempts to create a foreign key value in a child table if there is no a matching candidate key value in the parent table. When an UPDATE or DELETE operation affects a key value in the parent table that has matching rows in the child table, The result depends on the referential action specified using ON UPDATE and ON DELETE subclauses of the FOREIGN KEY clause. MySQL supports 4 options regarding the action to be taken: CASCADE: Delete or update the row from the parent table, and automatically delete or update the matching rows in the child table. SET NULL: Delete or update the row from the parent table, and set the foreign key column or columns in the child table to NULL. If you specify a SET NULL action, make sure that you have not declared the columns in the child table as NOT NULL. RESTRICT: Rejects the delete or update operation for the parent table. NO ACTION: A keyword from standard SQL. In MySQL, equivalent to RESTRICT. The MySQL Server rejects the delete or update operation for the parent table if there is a related foreign key value in the referenced table. For an ON DELETE or ON UPDATE that is not specified, the default action is always RESTRICT. FK constraint can be added using CREATE TABLE or ALTER TABLE statement First off let’s create the parent tables, I’ll begin with Tests table: CREATE TABLE Tests ( id_test INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, title VARCHAR(25) NOT NULL, date DATE NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY(id_test) ); And Questions table: CREATE TABLE Questions ( id_question INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, question TEXT NOT NULL, answer TEXT NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY(id_question) ); Now, let’s create the child table, Question_in_test: Id_test column will be FK reference to the id_test in Tests table, don’t forget both columns should be the same data types, and same size, id_question column will be FK reference to the id_question in Questions table, CREATE TABLE Question_in_test ( id_qt INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, number TINYINT NOT NULL, value TINYINT NOT NULL, id_test INT, id_question INT, FOREIGN KEY(id_test) REFERENCES Tests(id_test) ON DELETE RESTRICT ON UPDATE CASCADE, FOREIGN KEY(id_question) REFERENCES Questions(id_question) ON DELETE NO ACTION ON UPDATE CASCADE, PRIMARY KEY(id_qt) ); The last child table is the Grade_per_question This table contains 2 FKs Id_student FK reference to the id_student in Students table, And id_question per test reference to the id question per test in Question_in_test table, ALTER TABLE grade_per_question ADD FOREIGN KEY(id_qt) REFERENCES Question_in_test(id_qt) ON DELETE NO ACTION ON UPDATE CASCADE, FOREIGN KEY(id_student) REFERENCES Students(id_student) ON DELETE RESTRICT ON UPDATE CASCADE, If you wish to specify the column on which to join two tables, use the JOIN ON construct: Students table joined with grade_per_question on id_student And grade_per_question joined with question_in_test on id_qt Question_in_test joined with tests on id_test: SELECT name, title, date, sum(grade) FROM students join grade_per_question on students.id_student = grade_per_question.id_student join question_in_test on question_in_test.id_qt = grade_per_question.id_qt join tests on tests.id_test = question_in_test.id_test Whatever kind of data you are storing in your database, it must have some value to you, therefore, it’s important that you keep backups, to protect your investment also, there will be times when you have to migrate your database over to a new server, in the next tutorial we will learn how to make backing up and restoring data in mysql. First of all to Export the databases or tables, from top menu 'Server' select 'Data Export' Option, which opens a new window of data export settings and options. The left section on the window displays all the existing databases on our MySQL database server. When we select a database by clicking on it, it displays all the respected tables under the selected database. We can select one or multiple database check-boxes to include the database in the Export file. Under 'Export Options' section, You can change the default export path of you choice. I'll keep the default one. By selecting first option that is 'Export to Dump Project Folder'. MySQL Workbench will save the save all tables as separate SQL file under one folder. Which is useful when you will be importing or restoring the export file one by one table. I'll go ahead quickly and first save as 'Export to Dump Project Folder', MySQL Workbench displays the progress bar and log. Now, I'll again export the database using 'Export to Self-contained File' option. To demonstrate the import first I'll delete the existing 'students' table under 'mytestdb' database. Display database details by clicking on 'i' symbol, select 'tables' tab. Select and right click 'students' table, and click 'Drop Table' option, confirm and delete the table. Click 'refresh' to update the tables section and we have no table in our 'mytestdb' database. Now select the database and from 'data import' window, select 'import from dump folder. 'Load folder contents' and select only 'mytestdb' database and click start import button to import 'students' table again. Go to 'mytestdb' database information window again and click 'refresh' button to reload table list again. and the 'students' table is back. I'm always looking for new video ideas. Let me know what video you'd like for me to create. --- Video Transcript Time - 00:00 Hello. In this tutorial, you will learn how to connect to a MySQL database with Java. In this session we’re going to learn how to connect a MySQL database with Java. Before we get started there are some prep work that needs to take place. One is that you need to have a MySQL database already installed. If not, you can download one from the site listed here on the slide. Time - 00:20 Next, we’ll need to download and install a MySQL JDBC driver. This driver will allow the Java program to connect to the database. You can download it from this URL, and I’ll do that now. I’ll just take this URL, drop it into my favorite browser and here I am at the page. I’m on this page, this is for downloading the Connector/J browser. I’ll select the platform, platform independent. Now move down and I’ll select download and it will download a zip archive. Make sure you download the most recent version. In this case it’s 5.1.29. Make sure you download something at that version or later. Time - 01:04 Download, scroll down, select, “No thanks, just start my download.” This will start downloading the file for you. Now what we can do is show it in the finder. I’ll double click it to extract it. At this point I have the driver extracted. There’s a file in here called MySQL connector.jar that we’ll use later. Time - 01:34 Next, what I need to do is create a Java project in Eclipse. Let’s do that. On Eclipse I’ll say I’ll save file, new, Java project. This will be JDBC demo and I will select finish. What I’ll do is I will add a new class. New, class, this will be my driver and it will have a public static void main region. At this point we have a shell for our project created. Time - 02:28 Next, what we’ll do is we will talk to the actual development process and I really like this slide because it outlines exactly what we need to do. The first thing we’ll do is add the database driver to the classpath. Next, we’ll get a connection, we’ll submit a SQL query and then we’ll process the result set. Time - 02:48 Let’s start with step one, adding a MySQL database driver to the classpath. In our Eclipse project I’m going to add a new folder called lib, lib for library. In this lib folder I’m going to add the driver that I downloaded earlier. What I’ll do is I’ll just grab this driver. It’s the MySQL connector bin.jar and I’ll just drag and drop it to this lib folder. It will prompt me and I’ll say go ahead and copy the file. Time - 03:25 Next, I need to add the jar file, the driver to the classpath. I’ve set this up with properties, choose Java build path and then I’ll choose add jars. Expand this folder, that lib, I’ll grab that jar file and I’ll have it setup. Great. Time - 03:51 Now we can start coding. We need to get a connection, submit a SQL query and process a result set. Let me just sketch this out on a slide over here. The first thing I’ll do up top is I’ll just do an import on java.sql.* because all of the classes and interfaces that we need are in this package. Time - 04:17 I’ll also just setup a try catch block just to handle for any exception that may occur. Small typo there. Time - 04:40 Inside of this section I’m going to first get a connection to database. Then next I will create a statement. Then from here I will execute a SQL query and then I will process the result set. Time - 05:16 That’s my basic game plan, let’s fill it in with some real code. Here I’ll say connection, myConn = DriverManager.getConnection. I’ll give the jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/demo student, student. Student is the user ID and student is also the password. Delphi tutorial – connect MySQL with ZEOS library After you manage to create this application, you will actually have small MySQL manager. To achieve this you will have to have access to MySQL server. In this tutorial I am using portable version of server called „USBWebserver“ which can be downloaded from : www.usbwebserver.net Here you can see default port to Apache and MySQL server, and if you click on the button PHPMyadmin, PHPMyAdmin will be opened in default web browser where you will see that default user for accessing PHPMyAdmin is „root“ and default password is „usbw“. In this example I used these data to access MySQL. You also have option online with some free MySQL servers, just google something like „free mysql server „ or something like that. Just pay attention on username , password and port number. /*****************************************************************************/ Second thing you need to have is „libmysql.dll“ file which is a part of the MySQL Connector, you can find one on official MySQL web page, or to download the one that I used in this example : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_njK7HczCjDMGRVMGhGbUk1OHc Just save it in the same folder where your exe file will be, and link to it in you application like I explained in video tutorial (ZConnection1.LibraryLocation:=ExtractFilePath(Application.ExeName)+'libmysql.dll';) /*****************************************************************************/ The third thing you need is installed ZeosDBO components for Delphi, from ZeosLib Development Group, and the lates source code you can find at http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/zeoslib /*****************************************************************************/ Basically that are tools that you need. We start with creating new project , adding necesary components on the form and writting code to achieve what we want. In the video you can see all these steps, and in the code for showed example you can see details. Find source code at :http://xkobyx.blogspot.com/

Follow this step by step guide to reset the auto-increment option from mysql. The reset helps to stream line the database as you can type in the number that was previously used. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.Facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on Facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ Introduction In this tutorial, we will show you how to reset the Auto increment field in MySQL. Mysql Auto-increment allows a unique number to be generated when a new record is inserted into a table. The function allows you to automatically add 1 to the previous record if you enter a new value. You can always reset Mysql auto increment so that when you delete a record your data does show an uneven picture. Step 1 -- Selecting records Over here, we will be using the MySQL instance called SQL Yog. Just consider this table having the names of animals and the serial number, in this example the Mysql auto increment function is in operation. If we delete any of the record from the table, that particular ID value will not be associated with any other field. This is because the auto number field will not change its order according to the changes made in the table. Step 2 -- Selecting the column To fix this problem, you can simply drop the column and make it once again. For that, we will write the alter table query along with the table name and specify the id column with the drop keyword. When we run the query and fetch all the records from the table, you will notice that the ID field has been deleted. Now let's type the Alter Table query and give the table name which in our case is animals. Next, we will include the ADD keyword along with the column name which is ID in this case. Next, we will specify the data type, which would be Medium Integer in this case and after that, let's add the Not Null and Auto increment Constraints along with the Primary key. With that done, let's run the query and fetch all the records from the database. With that done, you will notice that all Auto increment field has been reset, and all the ID's are now in order. And in this manner you can reset Mysql auto increment.
