Navigation Drawer with Fragments Part 1 - MENU AND ACTIVITY THEME - Android Studio Tutorial

10:35
In this little video series we are going to build a navigation drawer from scratch. When we click any of the menu items in our navigation drawer, we will switch between different fragments or trigger another action. In part 1 we will add the dependency for the design support library and create the vector icons, as well as the menu xml file with a menu group and multiple menu items, which each have an id, a title and an icon set to them. We will also prepare our activity theme by removing the action bar with the windowActionBar and windowNoTitle attributes, so we can later add a toolbar instead. Navigation Drawer with Fragments Part 3 - HANDLING MENU ITEM CLICKS - Android Studio Tutorial

11:45
In part 3 of the navigation drawer tutorial, we will create 3 fragments and their corresponding layout files. Then we implement the OnNavigationItemSelectedListener interface into our MainActivity and set it as the listener on our NavigationView to handle click events on our menu items. For our 3 main items we will open the corresponding fragment with the getSupportFragmentManager and beginTransaction methods, and for the other 2 items we will simply show a toast message. Fragment to Fragment/Activity Communication - Android Studio Tutorial

14:27
In this video we will learn how to send data between two fragments. Since fragments should be modular, reusable components, the communication happens over an interface that the underlying activity implements. This way we can send data from a fragment to an activity and from there to another fragment either by calling a public method or by instantiating a new fragment and sending the values as arguments to it. Android tutorial (2018) - 79 - Create Simple App Settings Page Using Preference API

16:19
In some situation your app needs a settings page. For example you can allow user to change Theme of your app and you can allow the user to enable or disable notifications from the app itself. All these cases you have to create a separate settings activity for your app. Android Framework contains an API called Preferences that allow you to create app settings page without using any view widgets. Preferences API uses objects of its sub classes for creating each settings item. Example CheckBoxPreference ListPreference You can user Preferences Activity or PreferenceFragment for creating App settings. Recommended way is to use PreferenceFragment. In this video we learn about how to create a simple settings layout using Preferences Objects. Contextual Action Mode - Android Studio Tutorial

09:16
In this video we will learn, how to activate the contextual action mode, which is very similar to the floating context menu, but shows the menu options in the action bar instead of a pop up menu. We will activate this contextual action menu on a long click, by setting an onLongClickListener on our View. We will set it's title and implement an ActionMode.Callback interface, in which we then override the oncreateActionMode, onPrepareActionMode, onActionItemClicked and onDestroyActionMode methods. There we inflate our app bar menu with our own menu xml file and handle click events on the single menu items. Lastly we will learn, how to change the color of our action mode app bar and how to prevent it from pushing our toolbar away, instead of displaying on top of it, by using the windowActionBarOverlay attribute in our styles.xml file. Android Tutorial 2019 - Android Material Design Options Menu Part - 3

14:01
In this tutorial, we'll see how options menu work. there are some setup given by android studio. The options menu is the primary collection of menu items for an activity. For all menu types, Android provides a standard XML format to define menu items. Instead of building a menu in your activity's code, you should define a menu and all its items in an XML menu resource. If you've developed your application for Android 2.3.x and lower, the system calls onCreateOptionsMenu() to create the options menu when the user opens the menu for the first time. You can add one or more items to your options menu.To instruct Android to use your options menu, open the Activity class you want it to appear with.To respond to user interaction with your menu, you first need to detect it within your Activity class. The system will automatically call the "onOptionsItemSelected" method when the user chooses any of the options menu items. Android Tutorial 2019 - How to use Frame layout in Android Fragments Part 3

05:38
In this video, we'll learn programmatically how to use frame-layout into the fragments and How fragment transaction works. A great feature about using fragments in your activity is the ability to add, remove, replace, and perform other actions with them, in response to user interaction. Each set of changes that you commit to the activity is called a transaction and you can perform one using APIs in Fragment Transaction. How to Filter a RecyclerView with SearchView - Android Studio Tutorial

16:37
In this video we will learn how to use the SearchView widget to filter a RecyclerView in real time. For this we will add the SearchView as an item to our options menu and make it expandable with the collapseActionView attribute. This way we can display it as an icon in our app bar, which expands to an input field when we click on it. We implement the Filterable interface into our RecyclerView Adapter and create our own Filter, where we handle the filter logic in the asynchronous performFiltering method, which publishes the search results to the publishResults method on the UI thread. In our Activity we then connect our SearchView with the Filter by setting an OnQueryTextListener onto our SearchView and listening for the text input in onQueryTextChange. Navigation Drawer with Fragments Part 2 - LAYOUT AND HAMBURGER ICON - Android Studio Tutorial

15:05
In part 2 of the navigation drawer tutorial, we create the navigation drawer layout including the header. For this we set a DrawerLayout as the root view and put our content, consisting of a LinearLayout with a Toolbar and a FrameLayout, as the the first child view, and a NavigationView below it. This NavigationView will then contain the drawer itself. We set it's layout_gravity to "start" to get a left-opening drawer, add a headerLayout to it and set fitsSystemWindows to true for our DrawerLayout to make it slide under the status bar, which we will then make transparent. In the MainActivity we set our Toolbar as the ActionBar with the setSupportActionbar method. We will also add a hamburger icon as the home button, which will open our drawer when clicked and also have a rotating animation while the navigation drawer is sliding. For this we use the ActionBarDrawerToggle class with it's syncState method and set it as a listener to the DrawerLayout with addDrawerListener. Lastly we will override onBackPressed to close our drawer there if it is opened.
