Reimagining Classrooms: Teachers as Learners and Students as Leaders | Kayla Delzer | TEDxFargo
Why do some classrooms look the same now as they did 70 years ago? In this passionate talk, second grade teacher Kayla Delzer speaks about her mission to revitalize learning and the classroom environment. Kayla explains how to release the power in the classroom by giving students ownership of their learning and making it relevant to them. Breaking down the four walls of the classroom allows her students to become globally connected - and you won’t believe the endeavors her students conquer by embracing purposeful technology. Kayla Delzer is a 2nd grade teacher and Project Lead the Way Lead Teacher in West Fargo, North Dakota. In August, she will begin her 8th year of teaching 2nd grade and her second year with West Fargo Public Schools (WFPS). Teaching is her true passion in life, and she enjoys her job and helping children to love learning and become creative problem solvers. Her students are her focus in life; they are like family to her. In August 2014, she completed her master’s degree in Elementary Education. She also serves on the Technology Task Force and Social Media Task Force for WFPS. Her classroom Twitter account, @tweetingtopdogs, has allowed her students to learn virtually with hundreds of classrooms and educational experts from all over the world. Kayla has teamed up with several companies to improve the lives of students and teachers, and she works frequently with GoNoodle and Remind. She is highly sought after by educational and technology companies to preview and review their products. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Enhancing Digital Literacies for Language Learning and Teaching - Presentation June 2016
The annual review of the Teaching & Learning Enhancement Fund 2015 projects took place on June 8th and 9th 2016.The review was facilitated by the international review panel. For more information, visit http://www.teachingandlearning.ie/digital-enhancement-funding/2015-successful-proposals/ The urgent need to address the national language skills’ shortage has been highlighted in numerous arenas (e.g. 2011 Forfás Report “Guidance for Higher Education Providers on Current and Future Skills Needs of Enterprise”). In the context of the need for a continued economic recovery, language skills and proficiency are essential. Against this backdrop, and the need for more flexible support to language learners during various transition periods, this project aims to develop a digital interactive resource centre for languages. It will be of use as a significant student support mechanism, and also as an online learning tool for a number of different purposes. Within the scope of this project the target groups include higher education (HE) first year students, study abroad students, and language teachers, with resources also being of interest and benefit to others. Research which the project partners have conducted over the past year has identified a number of key areas where online flexible support is best focused. Based on these findings and expertise within the group, the aim of the project is to develop online resources and activities in three broad areas: A. Digital Literacies for Language Development: for example, privacy, copyright, register, online communities, netiquette, online identity, boundaries, plagiarism. This will work within the National Framework for Digital Skills being developed by the All Aboard Project B. Language Learning Strategies and Practices: for example, oral and other skills, intercultural competence, lexis and grammar, register and domains of use, use of digital resources including CALL resources C. Transitions to Third Level Language Learning Environments: for example, expectations, autonomy, self-directed learning, resilience, motivation, time management, confidence, affective issues. The portal will be freely available and scalable for use in other contexts. The contents and activities will afford integration into many programmes currently on offer in HE

She's taught all over the place, and she's used all of that international teaching experience to develop a website that is packed full of her own products here in a lot of cases. And a lot of this stuff has all been tested by Heidi, absolutely works on making learning fun, resources for you as a teacher to help lighten the load and make your planning and your organization a lot easier. Because we all know that teachers work very hard. It's a pretty stressful job. And any help that you can get, especially from another teacher I'm sure you'd much appreciate. Heidi has a free newsletter here that she sends out once a month. You can sign up for it and get lots of tips and strategies. And as you can see on both sides of the page and in the center, there's a lot of great products and a lot of things that you can download for free. There's banners. There's certificates. There's awards and on and on and on. It's just unbelievable the amount of information that Heidi has packed into this website. Now this site is a couple of hundred pages, but it's well laid out, easy to find your way around. And even if you just come to the teacher testimonial page where Heidi has received a ton of feedback from elementary school teachers around the world, they're absolutely floored by all the great resources that they've found here and you can see there's links on some of these feedback testimonials such as book report templates. A little further down here, there's another one on PowerPoint lesson plans. I'm sure that you could use a resource like that if you're an elementary school teacher. Just a lot of fun stuff here for kids at the elementary school level. So stop by the uniqueteachingresources.com website. There's the address, all one word: uniqueteachingresources.com. If you have any questions, you can contact Heidi here on the website. There's a contact page here on the left-hand menu and you're going to be absolutely thrilled I think if you're an elementary school teacher that you found this website because it's just packed full of great information. Thanks for your time.

EnergyTeacher.org - Resources for Teachers, Parents, and Children
http://energyteacher.org/ The pace of change in the energy production industry is significant. Our children and youth need to be energy literate to make good choices as consumers, and most importantly, as tomorrow’s innovators. Energy literacy spans fundamental physics, industrial processes, and environmental topics, to name a few. Drawing on the expertise of our science center and museum members, this site provides teachers and families with a portal to concrete resources and activities that will help provide children and youth with a solid grounding in understanding energy and its role in society. The Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) and the Museum Institute for Teaching Science (MITS), in partnership with BP America, are teaming up to provide resources for teachers, parents, and children around energy topics that meet widely used curricula including the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
Everything You Need to Make Educational Videos...More or Less
This explains my own experiences when it came to setting up -how to- videos for my math class. Of course, there is no right or wrong way to go about making them, it's just covers what worked best for me...which was using TechSmith's Camtasia and SnagIt, Wacom's Bamboo Splash, Microsoft's OneNote, and YouTube.
