Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) is an interior gateway protocol suited for many different topologies and media. In a well designed network, EIGRP scales well and provides extremely quick convergence times with minimal network traffic. EIGRP Theory of Operation Some of the many advantages of EIGRP are: very low usage of network resources during normal operation; only hello packets are transmitted on a stable network when a change occurs, only routing table changes are propagated, not the entire routing table; this reduces the load the routing protocol itself places on the network rapid convergence times for changes in the network topology (in some situations convergence can be almost instantaneous) EIGRP is an enhanced distance vector protocol, relying on the Diffused Update Algorithm (DUAL) to calculate the shortest path to a destination within a network.

Right click on "Network" then click properties, click change adapter settings, right click on your Local Area connection. Uncheck "Internet Protocol Version 6 TCP/IPv6" select. The Border Gateway Protocol makes routing decisions based on paths, network policies, or rule-sets configured by a network administrator and is involved in making core routing decisions. BGP may be used for routing within an autonomous system. In this application it is referred to as Interior Border Gateway Protocol, Internal BGP, or iBGP. In contrast, the Internet application of the protocol may be referred to as Exterior Border Gateway Protocol, External BGP, or eBGP. BGP neighbors, called peers, are established by manual configuration between routers to create a TCP session on port 179. A BGP speaker sends 19-byte keep-alive messages every 60 seconds to maintain the connection. Among routing protocols, BGP is unique in using TCP as its transport protocol. When BGP runs between two peers in the same autonomous system (AS), it is referred to as Internal BGP (iBGP or Interior Border Gateway Protocol). When it runs between different autonomous systems, it is called External BGP (eBGP or Exterior Border Gateway Protocol). Routers on the boundary of one AS exchanging information with another AS are called border or edge routers or simply eBGP peers and are typically connected directly, while iBGP peers can be interconnected through other intermediate routers. Other deployment topologies are also possible, such as running eBGP peering inside a VPN tunnel, allowing two remote sites to exchange routing information in a secure and isolated manner. The main difference between iBGP and eBGP peering is in the way routes that were received from one peer are propagated to other peers. For instance, new routes learned from an eBGP peer are typically redistributed to all iBGP peers as well as all other eBGP peers (if transit mode is enabled on the router). However, if new routes are learned on an iBGP peering, then they are re-advertised only to all eBGP peers. These route-propagation rules effectively require that all iBGP peers inside an AS are interconnected in a full mesh. How routes are propagated can be controlled in detail via the route-maps mechanism. This mechanism consists of a set of rules. Each rule describes, for routes matching some given criteria, what action should be taken. The action could be to drop the route, or it could be to modify some attributes of the route before inserting it in the routing table.

Since there are an increasing number of network attached devices, trying to keep them organized gets to be challenging. Since different devices might require different IP configuration settings and statically configuring them isn’t realistic, there are several approaches to deal with this. One of the most popular is to create a VLAN just for those devices, the most common example is the typical Voice VLAN where your VOIP sets are in its own VLAN, with its own DHCP scope and possible a specific quality of service configuration. Presently there are all sorts of devices that you might want to define its own DHCP range, examples would be printers, webcams, various tablets or access points. I’ve also worked on a few issues where the vendor changed the DHCP Vendor Class Identifier (VCI) with a firmware upgrade, so this is a good technique to learn. While working with a client, this topic came up and we needed to determine the device’s DHCP Vendor Class Identifier (VCI) or option 60. Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) is a data link layer communications protocol. it is used to establish a direct connection between two nodes. It connects two routers directly without any host or any other networking device in between. It provide a standard way to transport multiprotocol data over point-to-point links. PPP is a full-duplex protocol that can be used on a variety of physical media, including twisted pair copper wire, fiber optic  lines or satellite links. PPP can provide services over everything, from a dial-up modem connection to a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encrypted virtual private network (VPN) connection. PPP uses a variation of High-level Data Link Control (HDLC) for packet encapsulation. PPP is used over many types of physical networks including serial cable, phone line, trunk line, cellular telephone, specialized radio links, and fiber optic links such as SONET. PPP was designed to work with numerous network layer protocols, including Internet Protocol (IP), TRILL, Novell's Internetwork Packet Exchange(IPX). PPP is a layered protocol that has three main components: Encapsulation component : It is used to transmit Datagram's over the specified physical layer. Link Control Protocol (LCP): It is used to establish, configure, and test the link. Network Control Protocols (NCP): it is used to negotiate optional configuration parameters and facilities for the network layer. There is one NCP for each higher-layer protocol supported by PPP. How to Establishing a PPP Session ?There are Three Phases to establish the session: 3 steps. Phase 1 – Link Establishment: The LCP must first open the connection and negotiate configuration options. Phase 2 – Determine Link Quality (Optional): The LCP tests the link to determine whether the link quality is sufficient to bring up network layer protocols. Phase 3 – Network Protocol Negotiation: The appropriate NCP separately configures the network layer protocols. The NCP can bring them up and take them down at any time. PPP Requirement : Packet framing: encapsulation of packets Bit transparency: must carry any bit pattern in the data field Error detection (no correction) Multiple network layer protocols connection live-ness. Network Layer Address negotiation: Hosts/nodes across the link must learn/configure each other’s network address PPP non-requirements error correction/recovery flow control sequencing multipoint links (eg, polling) PPP Data Frame: Flag: delimiter (framing) Address: does nothing (only one option) Control: does nothing; in the future possible multiple control fields Protocol: upper layer to which frame must be delivered (eg, PPP-LCP, IP, IP-CP, etc) Byte Stuffing: For “data transparency”, the data field must be allowed to include the pattern 01111110 ; ie, this must not be interpreted as a flag to alert the receiver, the transmitter “stuffs” an extra 01111101 byte after each 01111110 data byte the receiver discards each 01111101 after 01111110, and continues data reception. In this webcast, Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) expert Joe Davies describes and demonstrates the various way that you can configure IPv6 addresses and configuration settings with a focus on the relevant and useful combinations.
