15 amazing recent discoveries in the world of science and here they are from bionic contact lenses to reanimating dinosaur dna! Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 7. New Human Species Biologists all over the world were intrigued upon hearing the 2015 discovery of a new species of human, Homo Naledi, allowing for an ever clearer picture of our ancient ancestry. The findings were unveiled deep in an underground cave in South Africa and is considered one of the greatest collection of human remains ever unearthed. So far, it is known that this species of human grew to an average height of 5 feet and had a brain no larger than an orange. The way the bones in the South African cave were arranged suggests that these human ancestors ritualistically buried their dead, giving scientists a glimpse into our cultural past. 6. Bionic Lens While still in the testing stage, the founder of Ocumetics Technology Corp may have stumbled upon a revolutionary technology that could augment the way humans perceive the world. A new bionic contact lens will give wearers an ability to see the world with stronger than 20/20 vision. Some subjects, who have already tried the lens themselves, claim that they not only see better than ever before but have identified a unique spectrum of colors unfamiliar to the unaided eye. Is this perhaps the first step in the direction of a new era of superhumans? 5. Harder Than Diamond Scientists may have recently discovered a substance harder than diamond, Q-carbon. What gives diamonds their excellent hardness are the chemical bonds that hold them together. The carbon in diamonds is held together by incredibly tight chemical bonds at the microscopic level, giving diamonds their prominent hardness. By the manipulation of carbon atoms, scientists were able to augment their chemical bonds, producing a material that is potentially 60 times harder than diamond. While this substance is still being experimented on, it is a potential prospect for the future of cheap, efficient technologies. 4. First Mammals Researchers from the University of Edinburgh have discovered an ancient species of mammals that survived the notorious extinction of the dinosaurs over 65 million years ago. The reason this find is so significant is that it gives us a glimpse at how mammals began to rule the world previously dominated by their cold-blooded counterparts. The mammal is thought to have been a plant-eater closely resembling a modern beaver. Once the dinosaurs were eliminated these beaver-like creatures began to flourish, given that they were no longer victims of dinosaur predators. Because these little guys were able to withstand the destruction that wrecked havoc on the dinosaurs, an array of mammals, including our ancestors, were finally able to leave their mark on the world. 3. Whale Gene Mapping Gene mapping is starting to look less like a theoretical nicety and more like an applied science with this new aquatic discovery. Scientists have finally discovered why Bowhead Whales are able to live to 200 years old by remapping their entire genome. By comparing the genome of Bowhead Whales with the genome of other mammals with a less impressive lifespan, scientists were able to point out marked differences. Bowhead longevity is due to its genes’ effectiveness in repairing gene deterioration, which is the cause of cancer and other ailments known to cut human life short. By further studying this animal’s genes, scientists may finally be able to restore our own faulty genetic system, substantially lengthening our lives. 2. Second Earth NASA has recently confirmed their discovery of a possible second Earth. Kepler-452b orbits its sun in what scientists call the “Goldilocks Zone,” which is the habitable region in space, not too far or close to the sun, necessary for the possibility of life to flourish. The new planet appears to have a rocky surface as well as liquid water, which is another key ingredient for life to subsist. Although not much is known about if there is life beyond Earth, it makes sense to take notice of planets similar to our own. 1. Animal Re-animation Scientists have always been intrigued by the prospect of re-animating creatures that have been extinct for many years. While bringing a dinosaur back to life would be kind of cool, bringing a Wooly Mammoth back to life would be just as cool, and that is just what scientists are trying to do. Because Wooly Mammoths and Saber-Toothed Tigers have only been extinct for tens of thousands of years, unlike the millions of years dinosaurs have been extinct, intact DNA samples are much easier to find. Scientists believe it is possible to recreate these extinct beasts by cloning them with DNA and tissue samples, which have been found, over the years, preserved in ice.

This video walks through searching Education Source and ERIC for articles on a specific topic- integrating technology in the classroom. Robots - 2016 News and Articles - Robotic Technology(Full Documentary) As humans, all of our greatest dreams and biggest fears about technology seem to be provoked by the stirring topic of robotic technologies. Robots have the potential to eliminate a great amount of monotonous work, provide assistance to human workers and serve in highly specialized environments, like hospitals or factories. At the same time, people can be concerned with how this technology will change daily life and worry about increasing isolation among humans or the loss of a job as a result. Even major names in technology development have showed signs of being spooked by robotics. In a talk given at a technology symposium held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk called robots the “biggest existential threat” to the human race, even arguing for national and international regulatory oversight on artificial (AI) development. Musk is even an investor in robotics, having put money into the AI development firm Vicarious, making his unease over the negative potential of robotics all the more telling. This holiday season, robots will likely have a much higher profile than they typically enjoy. Retail stores will prove to be a major testing ground for the consumer use of robotic technologies, as Lowe’s recently unveiled a lineup of robotic sales assistants, known as OSHbots, for certain stores. The robot can communicate in multiple languages and can direct customers to the exact location of an item they’re seeking in the store. Collision avoidance and autonomous navigation technologies are incorporated into these sales assistants, helping them travel across large stores safely. Robots have been here for a while but will likely be taking a much greater role in our daily lives. As we found in researching this technology, there are those who still believe that the utopian robotic future of The Jetsons is still very much within our grasp. In today’s article, we’ll look at some of the current activities in robotic development, break down some of the issues facing robotics technologies in our world and view some of the most recently issued patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to protect inventions in this field. Top 5 Technologies in 2018

07:49
Python Tutorial for Beginners: https://goo.gl/cLKYQP 5 skills for IT Professional: https://goo.gl/ba6Ui7 Top 5 technologies to learn in 2018. Technologies are : IoT (Internet of Things) Cloud Computing Blockchain Artificial Intelligence Big Data IoT : The Internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity which enables these objects to connect and exchange data. The IoT allows objects to be sensed or controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure. Cloud Computing: Cloud computing enables ubiquitous access to shared pools of configurable system resources and higher-level services that can be rapidly provisioned with minimal management effort, often over the Internet. Cloud computing relies on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and economy of scale, similar to a utility. Third-party clouds enable organizations to focus on their core businesses instead of expending resources on computer infrastructure and maintenance. Cloud providers typically use a "pay-as-you-go" model. Blockchain: A blockchain is a continuously growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptography which is resistant to modification of the data. Each block typically contains a hash pointer as a link to a previous block, a timestamp and transaction data. Blockchains are secure by design and are an example of a distributed computing system The first blockchain was conceptualized in 2008 by an anonymous person or group known as Satoshi Nakamoto and implemented in 2009 as a core component of bitcoin where it serves as the public ledger for all transactions. Artificial intelligence: AI is intelligence displayed by machines. In computer science, AI research is defined as the study of "intelligent agents": any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of success at some goal. Colloquially, the term "artificial intelligence" is applied when a machine mimics "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as "learning" and "problem-solving Big Data: Big data is data sets that are so voluminous and complex that traditional data processing application software is inadequate to deal with them. Big data challenges include capturing data, data storage, data analysis, search, sharing, transfer, visualization, querying, updating and information privacy. There are three dimensions to big data known as Volume, Variety and Velocity. Editing Monitors : https://amzn.to/2RfKWgL https://amzn.to/2Q665JW https://amzn.to/2OUP21a. The Bermuda Triangle Mystery Has Been Solved

04:30
Scientists May Have Finally Cracked the Greatest Mystery Behind the Bermuda Triangle. How many creepy stories about the disappearing of airplanes and ships in the Bermuda Triangle have you heard? We guess many. It is a large area in the Atlantic Ocean between Florida, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda. This region is notorious for its mysterious phenomena. Huge amounts of ships and planes have disappeared here. Its second name is ‘The devil’s triangle.' All those mythical vanishings happened under unknown and unexplained circumstances. Some of the planes and ships have never been found. There have been many theories about why it all occurs in that area starting from waterspouts to aliens and even sea monsters. But those were only theories... TIMESTAMPS Where is the Bermuda Triangle? 0:22 Theories 0:47 A big incident in 2005 1:40 Stories behind the Bermuda triangle 2:50 The main mystery solved 3:08 SUMMARY - In 1945 five American torpedo bombers and a plane that was sent out to find them vanished without a trace. - 75 aircraft and several hundred ships have been lost. - The latest tragedy happened in 2015 when the cargo ship "El Faro" disappeared in this region. - In 2005 the first Piper-PA airplane disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle. - In 2007 one more Piper-PA airplane disappeared near Berry Island. Many stories are whirling around this area. But now, finally, the mystery behind the Bermuda Triangle, might have been solved. 12 Scientific Discoveries That'll Send Chills Down Your Spine

12:00
Let's find out whether such astounding progress is good and if this “science of the future” can actually come back and bite us later. Did you know that there's a strong chance of a remote control for the body and brain being invented? With each passing day, science continues to move forward. It keeps expanding the boundaries of human capabilities to such an extent, that it seems like it's just a matter of time until we see something we could've imagined only in the boldest sci-fi flicks! TIMESTAMPS Transplantation of a human head 1:16 Selective amnesia 2:14 Water on Mars 2:58 A child from three parents 3:50 Organs grown in a lab 4:39 “Plastic” diseases 5:33 Nanorobots inside people 6:24 There are one billion planets that look like the Earth 7:20 3-D bioprinter that can print human skin 8:10 Bacteria evolving faster than we find cures for them 9:03 Mysterious Universe 9:56 Remote control for the brain 10:42 SUMMARY - Sergio Canavero, a neurosurgeon from Italy, is planning to take on a divine endeavor – bringing people back from the dead! The Italian scientist is sure that successful transplantation of a human head is a fairly realistic possibility. - Would you like to get rid of all your phobias, worries, bad memories and fears? Well, lucky for you, scientists are now ready to do just that and rid your brain of all the negative thoughts and flashbacks without affecting the important parts of your life's history. All this can be done by combining brain scanning technologies and artificial intelligence. - In 2016 NASA made an exciting announcement – there are some tiny frozen seas on Mars! In fact, scientists don't exclude the likelihood that the water there may flow underground. And where there’s water, there’s the possibility of life, right? - In 2016 a baby boy was born using a new and innovative technique that incorporates DNA from not two but three people! This scientific sensation allowed the baby’s parents to conceive a perfectly healthy newborn, despite the fact that the mother carries genes of Leigh syndrome, which is a fatal disorder that affects the central nervous system. - Scientists at The Ohio State University (go Buckeyes!) have spent nearly 15 weeks in the lab growing a human brain. The final product of this serious lab work has the same developmental level as a nine-week-old fetus! - As it turns out, we consume loads of poisonous chemicals every day without even realizing it. Plastic drink containers and bottles can lead to all sorts of health problems. Among them are uterine cancer, breast cancer, heart attack, diabetes, and that's just a drop in the bucket of the whole list of possible “surprises” you may end up with. - Teeny-tiny bots can store and transport remedies to sick and ailing parts in your body. Amazingly enough, these little babies can also detect diseased cells on their own! - Two years ago NASA came to the conclusion that there are nearly one billion planets that are similar to the Earth. And we’re talking about in our galaxy alone. Just imagine what could be outside of it! So, basically, what it means is that there are billions of planets where intelligent life could possibly live. - Spanish scientists have presented a prototype of a bioprinter that can print totally functional human skin! This skin can be used for transplantation, cosmetics testing, and really any type of medical experimentation. - Even though medicine continues to advance forward as quickly as it can with all its new and effective antibiotics and vaccines, it turns out that it isn’t moving fast enough. Unfortunately, some strains of bacteria are always a couple of steps ahead of us. - Such important things as dark matter and dark energy are completely unexplored to this day. The only thing astronomers are sure of is that all of these dark parts are the main causes for the expansion of the universe. - In 1923 scientists learned to control the brain's neurons, which allowed them to control movements and manipulate emotions and feelings. Sounds kind of dark, right? And that's not all. 30 HACKS AND CRAFTS THAT WILL SAVE YOU THOUSANDS

19:41
HACKS TO SURVIVE IN PRISON "Orange Is the New Black," based on Piper Kerman's experiences in prison, showcases quite a few tricks for female inmates, such as using maxi pads to clean your cell, as makeshift slippers or as a surgical mask. Some of the more interesting tricks are beauty-related (and saved, perhaps, for those prison visits): use Kool-Aid as a temporary hair dye or, mixed with Vaseline, as lipstick; coffee as eyeshadow or a face mask; toilet rolls as hair curlers; colored pencils as eyeliner (ouch!). According to former inmate experiences, you can make prison toast by wrapping a slice of bread in paper and sticking it on the hot pipes for five minutes. It's also revealed that you can turn toilet paper into an oven of sorts: The TP is rolled into a cylinder, folded in at the ends, and lit so it burns from the inside out. That slows it down and intensifies the heat. Inmates hold their undercooked meal above the flame, and voila, you can get it as hot and crispy as you like. Make Anything Taste Better Speaking of food, clever prison recipes and cooking tricks could probably make up a whole post of its own. When I asked people on Twitter their life hacks learned from jail, many replied with food ones. Here are some tips: Replace water with apple juice when cooking rice, adds flavor and quick, affordable and easy. Make a cake in microwave using crumbled up Oreo cookies and milk using mug or small container. You can make Ramen in a plastic bag by filling it with hot water and wrapping it in a towel for a few minutes. Ramen Noodle Packs and Mini bags of Cheetos. These are used to make what people called prison burritos. Essentially eat half the bag of Cheetos, crush the rest of them in the bag, add half the Ramen noodle pack and a little hot water to the bag of cheetos, shake it up, fold it over closed. Let it sit for 5-7 minutes. when you rip open the bag you have a little Cheeto-cheesy noodle burrito shaped thing. Folks did this because you don't get bowls in jail. Strangely enough its kinda delicious if Ramen is a part of your life and you need a change of flavors. All of these could come in handy for dorm dwellers and those very low in food funds or simply lazy. Enjoy! Replication: The Challenge of Reproducing Research

50:18
Replication, or the ability to reproduce tests or experiments, is a fundamental aspect of the scientific method. However, recent articles have called into question the replicability of experimental research in different fields. In this video, Larry V. Hedges, AIR Institute Fellow, explores the challenges of defining and analyzing replication. To do so, he examines the statistical background around replication and the difference between exact and approximate replication to better understand this key concept in evidence-based research.
Faith and Science - Reflections on a Harmonious Tradition

30:44
In recent history, it has become common to suggest that faith and scientific scholarship are antithetical to one another. Praveen Sethupathy is a leading geneticist who tells a different story, one that explores the depths of religious conviction and the joys of rigorous academic research. He comes to Upper House to share personal reflections on the harmony between supposedly disparate ways of knowing. Dr. Praveen Sethupathy is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he directs a research laboratory focused on genomics and human disease. He received a B.A. in computer science from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. in genomics and computational biology from the University of Pennsylvania. He served as a postdoctoral fellow in genomics under the mentorship of Dr. Francis Collins at the National Institutes of Health. In 2011, he was selected by Genome Technology as one of the nation’s top 25 rising professors in genomics. Dr. Sethupathy has published over 80 articles in leading scientific journals, such as Science, Nature Communications, PNAS, and Genome Biology, and has served as a reviewer for over 30 scientific journals. Praveen’s work is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Diabetes Association, the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation, and several Cornell University grant programs. Recent honors include an award for outstanding mentorship and teaching. Praveen has been an invited speaker on topics related to science & Christian faith for the Veritas Forum on college campuses, and has served on the advisory council on the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) dialogue on science, ethics and religion. He currently serves on the board of the BioLogos Foundation and is a part of their Speakers program called BioLogos Voices. Praveen lives in Brooktondale, NY, with his wife Rebecca and their three children.
