The study was a small pilot study to see if the American microbiome would gain microbial diversity (which we, as Americans, greatly lack) when exposed to European foods and colonizing probiotics for 2-4 weeks. To accomplish this, we measured the microbiome of ten American adults 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after a 2-4 week European trip. To add a twist to this study, I wanted to see if LifeSpa’s Flora Restore MAX, a colonizing probiotic, would boost the microbiome diversity and maintain that diversity for 2 weeks after the European trip – which would suggest the proliferation of new microbial residents was maintained. This is important because there is little science suggesting that probiotic supplements actually make permanent changes to the microbiome thus, to get the benefits, you must continue taking them. So you've started your research in the library catalog or your choice article database. You have a great list of results but now what? How do you navigate through your results list to find the best resources for your project? This tutorial will walk you through the types of resources you might find in your results list and will help you identify when these resources would be the most useful. The first thing to remember is that the library catalog and article databases are not like Google. The first item that shows up in your results list may not always be the most relevant to your topic. You may need to scroll through your results list to find the best resource for your project. Once you find a great resource, remember to use subject headings to find more items like this. When starting your research, ask yourself: 1. When was the source published and how does this affect its usefulness for your purpose? 2. What type of audience is the author addressing, specialized or general and how does this impact your use of the source? 3. How extensively does the source cover the topic? Is the information appropriate for your project? Is it either too simple or too complex? Too broad or too specific? Let's take a closer look at each type of resource to see where it falls. Sometimes a source will indicate that it is a "review". Other times you'll need to dig a little deeper to determine the item is a review. Reviews of books and media can be helpful to give you an overview of what the item is about, give background on the author, and will sometimes identify strengths and weaknesses of the work. These can be helpful in determining if the item will be a useful source for your paper. If it looks good, search for the item by title in the library catalog to find out if it is available in the library. Unless your assignment specifically calls for book reviews, it is best to locate the item itself to use in your project. Journal and magazine articles have a specific focus and present the most current information. There are three categories of article publications: scholarly or peer-reviewed journals, popular magazine, and trade publications. Scholarly or peer-reviewed articles are often indicated as such in the library catalog and article databases. These articles are written for scholars with terminology related to the field. They are reviewed by a panel of scholars in the field for accuracy. Scholarly articles general come with footnotes and or references at the end of the article. For more information on scholarly or peer-reviewed articles, please see our tutorial on "what is a scholarly journal article?" Popular magazine articles are written with a more general audience in mind. These articles are reviewed by a single editor. References may or may not be included at the close of the article. Trade publications contain industry specific information, written by people who work in that particular industry for others who work in the industry. Articles from trade publications are also vetted by a single editor. Books are great sources for a broader look at an issue. Chapters of books or book indexes can also be used to find information on a specific topic as well so if you're having trouble finding information on your topic, sometimes broadening your search terms and looking at books can help. Books generally have a longer publication cycle than articles and thus may not be as current as articles. Reference sources such as encyclopedias are a great source of information to get you started on your research. Reference sources are written by subject experts and are helpful to consult before starting your research to get background information on your topic and keywords for your searches. Remember, as you go through your results list consider: 1. When was the source published? 2. What type of audience is the author addressing, specialized or general? 3. How extensively does the source cover the topic? These questions will help you determine how useful the resources is for your project. Vert Shock Results & Review (Honest/Brutal)

Right so having completed Vert Shock and seen a fraction of the gains that were promised to me, here's a comprehensive review. I've also written this up in an article which can be found here http://9to5strength.com/vert-shock-vertical-jump-program-results-review-honest-brutal/ My main focus was on my standing vertical or "counter-movement jump" as that's a) hard to get wrong and b) easier to measure every week. My running vert was based on hanging a tape measure from the basketball hoop and seeing how short I can have it while still touching it. I did measure the hoop and it was exactly 10 feet, as i've seen videos where people were dunking on a 9ft 10 hoop and reporting false gains. The negatives of the program are: High volume could lead to injury unless experienced Said no equipment but need a 20m hill to sprint up Feel short-changed by the layout, with the Shock Phase looking very basic with next to no variation Online reviews and articles are suspiciously positive Website is packed with marketing techniques, which feels like he cares more about making money than genuinely helping people Minimal upper body work The positives of the program are: Felt more reactive off the ground and did jump higher Short workouts, 45 minutes max. A lot could be done in my garden or on a gym mat in the garage Each exercise is explained on the site so technique is aligned Emphasis on warm up and cool down Having not done a vert program before i'd rate Vert Shock 4.5/10. I think the price is too high for what it is and there's not much support for less experienced athletes to avoid injury. It promises dunking again and again yet in the fine print it says no guarantees. I am still 5 inches away from being able to touch the RIM and therefore about 13-14 inches from the promised dunk. The exercise selection and recovery times seems to have been given some thought but overall the whole thing is closer to a scam than an honest program.

Both CINAHL and MEDLINE allow you to limit your results to articles that focus on a particular age group such as infants, adolescents, adults, etc. You can search them individually, together, or in a group of several databases (this video shows searching CINAHL by itself) [Note: this video has music but no talking] Here are the steps shown in the video: 1. It's a pretty common question, and something that a lot of people wonder. And the thing is, there are so many collagen supplements out there right now, it leads us to believe that that is the case, that collagen does help us build muscle in the same way that other proteins do. Well, collagen is still a protein, and of course it still has an effect on protein synthesis, but it works in an entirely different way. What I want to do is I want to talk to you about how collagen works within the body when it comes down to building muscle or maintaining muscle, and I want to reference a couple of studies, so that you fully have an understanding of what's happening. It's not like all proteins are created equal, and it's not like all instances of life are equal. You see, we have to look at the given situation. Collagen has been proven to be a very good protein when it comes down to protein synthesis for someone that's on a low protein diet. Now, before you shut off this video thinking that you're not on a low protein diet, let me honestly say that if you're doing anything like a ketogenic or a low carb diet, you should be on somewhat of a low protein diet in the first place, simply because that's how the ketogenic diet works. Now, if you're looking just for good old fashioned muscle building and you're not on a keto diet, collagen still has some benefits, and I'll get to that in a minute. But for now, let's talk about what collagen truly is. See, collagen is the most abundant protein within the human body, making up over 30% of the overall protein in our bodies to begin with, and it's made up predominantly within what's called the extracellular matrix. This extracellular matrix is involved in every tissue in the body and helps support every single cell that's in our body. So collagen has some powerful functions, no matter what, whether it's for your hair, your skin and your nails, whether it's for muscle building, whether it's for connective tissue, you name it, it's involved in one way or another. But the question is whether collagen actually contributes to you building some more muscle if you're working out. Well, the British Journal of Nutrition took a deep dive on this, and I thought it was pretty interesting. So what they did is they took a look at 53 individuals, these were older men that were suffering from what is called sarcopenia. Sarcopenia is just a simple age related atrophy of the muscles, where you get older and your muscles start to shrivel up and go away. So it's a good viable accelerated example to look at to see whether collagen can actually stop this process. So what they did is, over the course of a few weeks, they split these 53 men into two groups, one group had a collagen supplement and the other group had a placebo. What they found is that those that had taken the collagen supplement had a significant decrease in fat and a significant increase in fat-free mass, meaning an increase in overall muscle tissue. Searching Academic Search Premier: The Basics

This tutorial provides a basic introduction to searching for articles from popular and trade magazine as well as scholarly and peer-reviewed journals using Academic Search Premier, one of the world's largest multi-disciplinary indexes. In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to perform a basic keyword search, limit my results to articles from scholarly, or peer reviewed, journals only, and narrow that search into a more focused subject search. I will do a basic search on the broad topic of urban planning, using those terms as my key words. In this example, I find 40,596 results. To the left of my results list in the center, I can find options for refining my results. I will limit to scholarly (peer reviewed) journals to start. This drops my results to 27,232. Scanning my results I can see that the term urban planning is also assigned subject terms. I can also see several other relevant subject terms such as urban policy and sustainable development that can help me further focus my results. I can scroll down and click to expand the Subject: Thesaurus Terms and show more once it expands, and update my results. Now I have a much more focused set of articles to start reviewing. Below each article listed in my results is a link to access the citation and content of the article. Some articles have full text in a pdf format, while others may say "Linked full text" and provide a web page version of the article. In other cases, like the sixth article in our search, have a "MacLinks" button that will search other Macalester databases for the full text and will link you to interlibrary loan if we don't have electronic access to that article.

The steps are also described in writing below (Click Show more): STEP 1, reading the transcripts 1.1. Browse through all transcripts, as a whole. 1.2. Make notes about your impressions. 1.3. Read the transcripts again, one by one. 1.4. Read very carefully, line by line. STEP 2, labeling relevant pieces 2.1. Label relevant words, phrases, sentences, or sections. 2.2. Labels can be about actions, activities, concepts, differences, opinions, processes, or whatever you think is relevant. 2.3. You might decide that something is relevant to code because: *it is repeated in several places; *it surprises you; *the interviewee explicitly states that it is important; *you have read about something similar in reports, e.g. scientific articles; *it reminds you of a theory or a concept; *or for some other reason that you think is relevant. You can use preconceived theories and concepts, be open-minded, aim for a description of things that are superficial, or aim for a conceptualization of underlying patterns. It is all up to you. It is your study and your choice of methodology. You are the interpreter and these phenomena are highlighted because you consider them important. Just make sure that you tell your reader about your methodology, under the heading Method. Be unbiased, stay close to the data, i.e. the transcripts, and do not hesitate to code plenty of phenomena. You can have lots of codes, even hundreds. STEP 3, decide which codes are the most important, and create categories by bringing several codes together 3.1. Describe the connections between them. 4.3. The categories and the connections are the main result of your study. It is new knowledge about the world, from the perspective of the participants in your study. STEP 5, some options 5.1. Decide if there is a hierarchy among the categories. 5.2. Decide if one category is more important than the other. 5.3. Draw a figure to summarize your results. STEP 6, write up your results 6.1. Under the heading Results, describe the categories and how they are connected. Use a neutral voice, and do not interpret your results. 6.2. STEP 7 Ending remark This tutorial showed how to focus on segments in the transcripts and how to put codes together and create categories. However, it is important to remember that it is also OK not to divide the data into segments. Narrative analysis of interview transcripts, for example, does not rely on the fragmentation of the interview data. (Narrative analysis is not discussed in this tutorial.) Further, I have assumed that your task is to make sense of a lot of unstructured data, i.e. that you have qualitative data in the form of interview transcripts. However, remember that most of the things I have said in this tutorial are basic, and also apply to qualitative analysis in general. You can use the steps described in this tutorial to analyze: *notes from participatory observations; *documents; *web pages; *or other types of qualitative data. How Broad Match Modified Keywords Can Help Your Results Working in AdWords is all about control and efficiency. In AdWords, keyword match types determine how much control you have over the searches that trigger your ads. There are four different keyword match types. Broad Match Broad Match Modified Phrase Match Exact Match Plus there are negative keywords that you can use to prevent certain words or phrases from being associated witih your search query. Broad match offers the least amount of control over your keywords. But, sometimes, when you’re just starting an ad campaign, you need to use broad match keywords to test the market and gather data quickly. In these cases, where you are testing the waters with PPC, you can gain more control over how Google displays your broad keywords by using the broad match modifier. Today, we’ll look at how broad match modified keywords work in AdWords. Then I’ll show you how to quickly add the modifier to your keywords, using AdWords Editor. And we’ll check out how to make single keyword ad groups that use three keyword match types. Broad keywords are bad One of my 10 Commandments of PPC Management is “Broad is Bad.” The 10 Commandments are my guiding rules for PPC advertising. This past November, I gave a presentation on the 10 Commandment of PPC Advertising at the DMSS conference in Bali. You can watch the full presentation in the video below. Why is broad match bad? Broad keywords give control of your advertising to Google. If you were to advertise on the keyword “werewolf novels,” using broad match, your ad could display for all sorts of unrelated search terms. Your ad could rank for searches related to: “werewolf costumes”, “travel novels”, “prince concert tickets”, and “scuba equipment.” And when a searcher who’s interested in travel novels or werewolf costumes clicks on your ad, you pay for the click! The result is that you pay for lots of wasted clicks. Or no one clicks your ad because it’s not related to the search. Then your Quality Scores tank and your ads don’t display at all. Those results? They are bad! Using simple logic, that implies that broad match is bad!! Broad Match Modified One way to make the broad match type more targeted to your keywords is to use the broad match modifier. Adding the broad match modifier to your keywords is a simple as placing a “+” before each word you want to modify. The modifier tells google that there must be a close variant of your keyword in the search for your ad to display. So if your keyword is “werewolf novels,” then “novels on werewolves” and “werewolf cheap novels” are still acceptable searches for your ad to display on. But, “travel novels” and “scuba equipment” are ruled out because there are no close variants in these searches. Broad match modified strikes a balance between broad coverage and control of your keywords. Here’s where broad match modified falls on the spectrum of all the keyword match types. Keyword Match Types Broad Match: Keyword and all it’s synonyms as interpreted by Google. Broad Match Modified: Searches that include the keyword, and/or close variants of the keyword. Phrase Match = Exact Keyword, with other terms before or after you keyword. And your keywords can appear in any order within the search. Exact Match = Exact keyword only Why should you use broad match modified keywords? 1) Because these keywords produce valuable data in your search term reports. Modified broad match can help you learn how people use your keywords in search. Broad keywords populate your search term repot with lots of data about the searches that trigger your ads. Mining your search term data will show you which keyword variations are working the best. You can use this data to adjust your keywords to target the searches that are resulting in conversions. You can also add search terms that are resulting in wasted clicks to your negative keywords list. 2) Google doesn’t like it when you go too granular, too quickly (from my experience). In my experience, when you start off with a super refined ad campaign, Google doesn’t like it. If you go 100% phrase and exact match from the get-go, Google doesn’t display your ads, and you get little to no results. I’m not talking bad results. I’m talking no results at all. Eating for your Blood Type | Results + Physique Update I have been eating for my blood type (O+) for about six months. I started it in January/February of this year (2018) and have gotten AMAZING results so I wanted to share some of what I've learned in case it can help someone else. I ended up having pretty severe digestive issues, that were affecting my whole body, for most of last year. I even went to a stomach doctor and he recommended that I get a colonoscopy because he couldn't figure out why I was having so many issues since I seemed to be in good health -_-. The colonoscopy didn't show any outstanding issues AT ALL... so the doc said I probably have IBS-D. I refused to accept that diagnosis so I did my own research and ended up stumbling onto the Blood Type Diet through speaking with my mom, who had just gotten back into it. After only a couple of weeks of focusing on the foods that are beneficial for my body, and avoiding the ones that I know I'm sensitive to, my IBS-D disappeared! I felt SO much better. I was noticeably happier, had better focus, leaner, had WAY more energy (I was always exhausted before), and a ton of other improvements. In this video, I discuss the basics of eating for your blood type and some of my experiences while following the guidelines. I originally filmed this video on May 1, 2018, so I will be filming another follow-up video to show more of my results and discuss more of the benefits I've been experiencing. Well, I hate to say it, it's tough. Ten years ago it used to be easy, but now it's hard. And you know what? Unless you watch this whole video, you're not going to be able to rank number one on Google. Hi everyone, I'm Neil Patel, and I'm going to share with you three ways you can rank #1 on Google today. #1: Focus on content Google has this update called Hummingbird, and with Hummingbird, websites who just have content on everything won't do as well as sites which focus on one single niche and are super thorough. You want to be VERY thorough with your SEO content. Poke holes in your content and fill them all up, so then that way people are like, "This is the end all site "that you should end up reading "if you're interested in dating online." #2: Optimize your title tag and your meta description Have you ever done a Google search, and noticed that every time you do it, there is this link at the top, and then there's this one sentence with a link at the top is called the title tag. And the description below is called the meta description. Now think of it this way, if you search for the phrase online dating, and you don't see the word online dating in neither the title or the description, are you going to click on the result? Well if you are, there's something wrong, because why would you click on a result that isn't related to what you're looking for? In addition to that, have you ever searched for a term like online dating? And have you ever noticed that the word isn't in the title or description? That's because Google tracks who's clicking on what listing, and they've learned that when a keyword is in the listing, that same keyword that you're searching for, they know you're way more likely to click through. So in your title tag and your meta description, make sure you include the keyword. But you can't just add the keyword, "online dating," right? The easiest way and what I would do and I wish it was this simple; I will just put "online dating, online dating, online dating, online dating." If I could put it 20 times so people would know that the article is on online dating, I wish I would get more clicks. But it's not that simple. Yes you have to include the keyword in your title and your description, but it has to be appealing. If it doesn't flow in a sentence, it's not easy to read, and it's not appealing or evoking curiosity, no one is gonna click through. #3: Use Google Search Console Did you know that Google gives you a tool that teaches you how to rank number one on Google? Yes I know that sounds ridiculous but it is true, and it's called Google Search Console. If you're not already a user of it, sign up. It doesn't cost a dollar. You're missing out if you're not using it. I can't emphasize that enough. So now that you're using Google Search Console...give it a few days because it takes some time to populate data. You'll see a screen that shows Search Analytics and this shows you all the pages on your website that are getting you traffic. But the cool thing about Google Search Console is they also show you which articles are getting impressions. Take all the keywords you're getting impressions for and start adding them to your copy. Now we have an article on Instagram, and it teaches you how to get over 300 targeted Instagram followers per day. The article is around 10,000 words. When I first wrote that article, it wasn't 10,000 words, it was roughly 2,500. I went to Google Search Console, I saw all the people that are searching for terms related to the article, I added them within that article. I made it more thorough and you know what? My SEO traffic more than tripled to that article. Yes it is that simple. And when I made that change, it didn't happen right away, but I noticed the results within 50 days. That's not a long time. Now that you've learned these three tips, I challenge you in which I want you to take these tactics and implement them, and then after you implement them, in the next 45 days I want you to leave a comment with your results. Because if you're not doing well, that means I'm not happy.
