Medium shot parliament with flags half mast STORYLINE: All German federal buildings were ordered to fly their flags at half mast on Thursday, following Wednesday's school shooting in which 12 students and teachers were killed. Schools across the country also held moments of silence for the victims, while residents of the capital Berlin reacted with shock and sadness at the shootings. According to reports on Thursday, the principal of the school in Winnenden was able to put an emergency plan into action immediately after the gunman burst into the school, likely preventing the death toll from being any higher. Local media have identified the gunman as Tim Kretschmer and the name on his parent's home was Kretschmer. After the former student burst into the school and opened fire, the principal quickly got onto the public address system and gave a coded message to teachers: "Frau Koma is coming," students said. In German the word "amoklauf" is used to describe school shootings, and "koma" is the reverse of the word "amok". Germany's Bild newspaper reported the coded alert was worked out by German schools after a deadly school shooting in Erfurt in 2002 as a way to warn teachers without panicking students. Authorities still haven't given any indication of the gunman's motive, but his victims were primarily female: eight of nine students killed were girls, and all three teachers were women. Three men were killed later by the suspect as he fled. So far, police say they have found no letters or other indications from the gunman as to what provoked him to attack. People look down on Koreans as it is. I am afraid that we will be restricted in terms of what we can and cannot do when we go abroad from now on." 15. Medium of children playing 16. Wide of playground STORYLINE: The family of the gunman in the Virginia Tech shootings had struggled while living in South Korea and emigrated to the US to seek a better life, a newspaper reported on Wednesday. The shooter at Virginia Tech University was identified as Cho Seung-Hui, a senior in the English department, who the South Korean Foreign Ministry said had been living in the United States since 1992. Cho was the only suspect named in the deadliest shooting rampage in modern US history, which left 33 dead including himself. South Korea's largest newspaper "Chosun Ilbo" reported that Cho's family was poor when they lived in a Seoul suburb and decided to emigrate to seek a better life. The family lived in a rented, basement apartment, usually the cheapest unit in a multi-apartment building, the newspaper reported quoting building owner 67-year-old Lim Bong-ae. Police identified the shooter's father as 61-year-old Cho Seong-tae. Meanwhile, South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun held a special meeting with aides Wednesday to discuss the shooting, as the public expressed shame over a South Korean citizen being identified as the gunman. It was the third time that Roh has offered condolences since Tuesday. The case topped the front pages of nearly all South Korean newspapers on Wednesday, which also voiced worries that the incident may trigger racial hatred in the US and worsen relations between the strong allies. A sense of despair prevailed among South Korean public. Lee Jin-eui, the parent of a child at the school Cho used to attend expressed her own worries about the impact of the shooting on Koreans. "I am worried that people will look down on Korea because of this one isolated case," she said. "People look down on Koreans as it is. I am afraid that we will be restricted in terms of what we can and cannot do when we go abroad from now on," Lee added. Despite being technically a state of war for decades against North Korea, South Korea is a country where citizens are banned from privately owning guns, and where no school shootings are known to have occurred. However, it has not been immune from shooting rampages. In 2005, a military conscript believed to be angered by taunts from senior officers killed eight fellow soldiers, throwing a grenade into a barracks where his comrades were sleeping and firing a hail of bullets. France prosecutor says newspaper shooting suspect was "confused"

01:42
The suspect in a shooting at a French newspaper office and three other attacks had written a "confused" letter criticising media manipulation and capitalism, authorities said on Thursday. Suspect Abdelhakim Dekhar is in custody in a suburban Paris hospital after police detained him on Wednesday night, ending a two-day nationwide manhunt. Police found him in a "semi-conscious state" after an attempt to kill himself with medication, Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins told reporters. After his arrest, investigators found two letters he left behind, Molins said. One appeared to be a suicide note, and the other was a "rather confused" letter evoking "fascist plots." In the second letter, Molins said, the suspect accused the media of "participating in the manipulation of the masses, journalists are paid to make the citizens swallow lies with a little spoon." He also criticised capitalism and government neglect of suburban housing projects, which he called "an enterprise of dehumanisation of a population that the capital doesn't want." Molins said psychiatrists who examined Dekhar during a previous criminal case in the 1990s described him as having "storytelling tendencies" though "no specific anomaly in the psychiatric sense." Molins told reporters on Thursday that the suspect will undergo psychiatric examination as well as police questioning. The shooting has prompted cries of concern about attacks on the media. Security was tightened at media offices and on the busy Champs-Elysees shopping avenue. Maryland Shooting Shakes Local Newspapers

00:40
(Reuters) - About two hours after the shooting in a Maryland newspaper office that killed five people on Thursday, a small newsroom in Ogden, Utah received a telephone call from a man asking about the ideological bent of the newspaper. “There was no specific threat made by this person, but he did go off on the liberal media and fake news and suggested that liberals deserve to have violence done against them,” said Kyle Hansen, news editor of the Ogden Standard-Examiner. The caller hung up when asked to identify himself. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/domesticNews/~3/jsGt0xMsLHA/maryland-shooting-shakes-local-newspapers-that-cultivate-community-ties-idUSKBN1JP04L http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Vigil outside school after shooting, candles, flowers, mourners, headlines

(13 Mar 2009) SHOTLIST 1. Wide of vigil in front of the school 2. Close up of mourners 3. Close up of candles 4. Flags at half mast, pan to mourners 5. Wide of vigil 6. Mid of two girls 7. Mid of candles, flowers and card 8. Various of newspaper headlines STORYLINE: Across Germany on Friday, government buildings lowered their flags to half staff, while schools held moments of silence for the victims of a teenager who went on a shooting spree at his former school and killed 15 people. Students and residents paid homage to the dead outside the school, where they lit candles and laid tulips, roses, handwritten notes and toys as memorials. Meanwhile, the psychological profile of the teenager began to take shape, as investigators described a withdrawn young man who broke off psychiatric treatment for depression. But investigators faced a setback Thursday as they struggled to authenticate a chat room posting that purportedly warned of a bloody rampage hours before 17-year-old Tim Kretschmer wreaked havoc on this quiet town near Stuttgart, southwest Germany. Kretschmer returned to his former high school on Wednesday to kill nine students and three teachers before fleeing on foot and by car, killing three more people, and eventually turning a 9 mm Beretta pistol on himself after a shootout with police. A joint statement released late Thursday by regional police and Stuttgart prosecutors said that, "in the course of the afternoon, doubts arose about the veracity of the Internet chat." Authorities and friends said that although Kretschmer played table tennis and lifted weights, his main hobbies appeared to be shooting and spending hours on his computer - where investigators said they found pornographic films, violent computer games and a collection of horror and action films. The teen, who graduated from Albertville high school with average grades in 2008, underwent several treatment sessions for depression at a psychiatric clinic that year, said an investigator. He showed up for five sessions between April and September, and was expected to continue outpatient therapy at a different clinic, but never began it, the investigator said. Authorities said they found some 60 shell casings in the school and that the number of victims could have been much higher had educators and police not carried out a plan learned in an earlier training programme preparing them to respond to such a shooting. French High School Student Threatened Over School Newspaper Issue About Charlie Hebdo Attack

00:49
Teachers, parents and media freedom activists are urging police action after death threats against a French teenager over a school newspaper issue about the extremist attack against satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo. The 17-year-old student, chief editor of the paper at the Marcelin Berthelot school in the Paris suburb of Saint-Maur des Fosses, received seven threats, according to Reporters Without Borders. They included letters sent with bullets and swastikas, some sent to his home, others left in his school locker. The school's teachers threatened to stop work, expressing concern that police aren't doing enough to protect the school or stop the threats. http://feeds.foxnews.com/~r/foxnews/world/~3/0dGyLKzHcI8/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

No Breathing In Class | POEM | Kids' Poems and Stories With Michael Rosen

No Breathing In Class | POEM | Kids' Poems and Stories With Michael Rosen Read by Michael Rosen fro The Hypnotiser Check out Michael's website for news, updates and fun. https://www.michaelrosen.co.uk "I wrote a book of poems for children called 'The Hypnotiser' some years ago and then it went out of print. I couldn't get anyone to reprint it, so I asked my son Joe to film me performing the book." - Noice! Michael Rosen Who Is Michael Rosen? My first book for children was called Mind Your Own Business and it came out in 1974. Quentin Blake did wonderful line drawings for it. Ever since then, I’ve been doing these things: Writing books Writing articles for newspapers and magazines Going to schools, libraries and theatres and performing the poems in my books Helping children write poems and stories Making radio programmes, mostly about words, language or books Appearing on TV, either reading books, or talking about books Teaching at universities about children’s literature Running workshops for teachers about poetry In any week, I might be doing all of these things! To tell the truth, I don’t really know what I’m doing tomorrow, unless I look in my diary to see. Review of The Hypnotiser Right class 6, RIGHT CLASS 6, I'm talking, I'm talking, I want complete quiet and that includes you, David Alexander, yes you...' 'The Outing', by Michael Rosen, just one of the fantastic and hilarious poems from his short story and poetry collection The Hypnotiser. This particular poem was read to me as a young child in primary school time and time again. Each time the names in the poem were changed to the names of the pupils in my class. It never got old, or less hilarious and I wouldn't hesitate in reading this to my future classes during my teaching career. Other great poems from this collection include 'The Car Trip'; a highlight of the sibling chaos that goes on in the back of the car when Mum is driving: 'He started it. I didn't. He started it...', 'Tomato 1'; the gruelling ordeal of being given a tomato to eat by your mother and you simply just hate tomatoes, and 'Tidy Your Room'; every child's nightmare. Each and every poem and short story relates to children through typical experiences that most would have endured. This book enlightens children's love and enthusiasm for poetry, an almost forgotten about genre for most children; a runner up to fiction books. This book can have many uses in the classroom; appropriate for children in Key Stage Two it can be read by the teacher at the end of the day during story time, like in my own experience at primary school. Or, during a poetry topic in Literacy, this book could model fun, interesting, age appropriate poetry that will inspire children to write their own poems. Likewise for shared reading; this book would be fantastic to put under the visualiser and look through with the class at the how poems are written, their structure, do they rhyme? do they tell a story? All sorts of things can be addressed with the class as a whole. This book needs to be shown to children, whether at school on the class bookshelf, or online where you can find video clips of Michael Rosen performing these poems; a great filler for those odd five minutes that arise during the busy school day. A Must read, not just for children but teachers as well! #Michael Rosen #Kids #Poetry

These people suspended each other from their jobs, the new administration did not have anything to do with it." (Reporter's Question) "How did they get inside?" (Noverto Olvera) " Using violence." 7. Various of off-duty police officers who invaded newspaper being detained by on-duty officers 8. Police bus leaving the scene STORYLINE: More than 30 people - including off-duty police officers - invaded the Mexico City newspaper Excelsior early on Sunday, beating some workers and telling others that they had come to "rescue" them from the paper's current administration. Newspaper officials said the raid appeared to have been staged by former employees of Excelsior, once one of Mexico's most influential newspapers. Some 30 people were arrested, including 16 police officers and two police commanders from a neighbouring state who said they were hired to help seize the building. Workers inside said some employees were beaten and others were allowed to go free by intruders. No major injuries or damage were reported, although at least one gunshot was fired through a window of the building. Jaime Contreras, president of the newspaper's administrative board, said several employees who had been fired in December were seen among the intruders. Riot police surrounded the building for several hours, escorting those detained through crowds of employees who had gathered to find out what was happening. For decades, Excelsior was one of Mexico's most influential newspapers, reaching its peak in the early 1970s. But it has recently been mired in controversy, financial problems and internal struggles for more than a year. In December, workers voted to fire the leader of the employee cooperative that runs the daily, but agreed to put off discussion of whether to sell the paper. The cooperative also voted to rehire 78 employees who had set up a protest camp outside the paper's offices after being ousted in July. Excelsior was founded at the start of the 20th century by newspaperman Rafael Alducin. It became an employee-owned cooperative in 1926. Close up of newspaper front page with picture of victims 16. Medium of man reading newspaper STORYLINE South Koreans reacted with shock on Wednesday, as the perpetrator of the most deadly mass shooting in modern US history was identified as a South Korean resident of the US. Police identified Cho Seung-Hui, a Korean native with a U.S. green card, as the gunman suspected in the Virginia Tech shootings, in which 33 people died, including Cho. Monday's rampage consisted of two attacks - more than two hours apart - one at a dormitory and another inside a classroom building. People across the capital Seoul were seen reading newspapers and watching television news about the incident. Park Sang-heung, a Korean American in his forties, called the accident "shocking". "This is personal because I am a Korean American, but I hope this won't affect Koreans living in the United States," said Sang-heung. South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun offered his condolences on Tuesday, and South Korea's Foreign Ministry said South Korea hoped that the tragedy would not result in racial discrimination. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade composed an emergency planning committee to deal with the matter, focusing on dealing with any negative repercussions the shooting might bring to the Korean community in the US. Kim Dae-hwan, a Seoul resident, mirrored the government's concerns. "I hope this doesn't have an adverse affect on Korean society as a whole," he said. Hugh Hefner Says He'll Fund a High School Newspaper in Chicago Where He Attended

01:01
CHICAGO (AP) — Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner has renewed a grant to fund the student newspaper at the Chicago high school he attended. The Chicago Sun-Times ( http://bit.ly/1WRP6b8 ) reports that Hefner made the commitment to Steinmetz College Prep last week. About two months ago, Steinmetz Star student reporters clashed with the school's principal over allegations of censorship. In December, students wanted to publish a story about later dismissal times. The principal says he held the piece so students could make it less "one-sided." http://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/4e67281c3f754d0696fbfdee0f3f1469/Article_2016-03-01-US--Chicago%20School-Playboy%20Donation/id-4460c10a73b24f82863194afcd3d8876 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Entertainment using http://wochit.com
Newspaper's Blank Page Speaks Volumes

00:51
There have been many chilling details to emerge Friday about the mass shooting that killed five in a Maryland newspaper office. Police say suspect Jarrod Ramos barricaded the exit doors of the Capital Gazette building in Annapolis to prevent escape. "The fellow was there to kill as many people as he could kill," said Anne Arundel County Chief Timothy Altomare. The 38-year-old Ramos appeared in court via video Friday and was charged with five counts of first-degree murder. The newspaper incredibly put out a newspaper Friday, including a striking editorial page that was largely blank. “Today, we are speechless, this page is intentionally left blank to commemorate victims of Thursday’s shootings at our office.” http://www.newser.com/story/261279/newspapers-blank-page-speaks-volumes.html http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Fox News Refers To Capital Gazette As Unbiased After Shooting

00:47
A fatal shooting at the Capital Gazette newsroom in Maryland Thursday left 5 people dead. Fox News correspondent Trace Gallagher told his viewers that the paper is unbiased. "The editorial board doesn't seem to have any severe ideological bent so you kind of look towards what's the M.O., what's the motive behind something like this, and there's nothing that jumps out at you that says, well, it could possibly be this." "Fox News's Trace Gallagher says they checked into Capital Gazette's ideological bent and concluded that it was very much a local newspaper." Washington Post columnist Erik Wemple It is not yet clear what the shooter's alleged motive was. Business Insider reporets one suspected shooter is in custody and being interviewed by police. http://www.businessinsider.com/fox-news-capital-gazette-isnt-ideological-2018-6 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Gunter Ottinger, governor of the State of Baden-Wrttemberg signing the condolence book STORYLINE Mourners queued in Winnenden, Germany, on Friday to sign a condolence book for the families of the victims of the school shooting rampage. Others stood silently outside the school as the number of flowers left on the ground continued to grow. Meanwhile, German police worked with US authorities on Friday to determine if they had fallen victim to an internet hoax as they investigated the shooting in southern Germany that killed 15 people. Tim Kretschmer, 17, gunned down students at his former high school on Wednesday before fleeing on foot and by car, killing three more people, and eventually turning a nine-millimeter Beretta pistol on himself. Investigators said on Thursday that Kretschmer had posted his intentions in an internet chat room only hours beforehand, but they now say they have serious doubts about the authenticity of the posting. A police spokeswoman said on Friday that investigators were working with officials in the United States, where the servers that host the German-language web site are located, but did not expect to clear up the mystery quickly. Police said they were alerted to the purported internet threat after the attack, and released a transcript of the chat at a news conference. but later in the day, after the site itself claimed the posting was fraudulent, they searched Kretschmer's computer and found no trace of it in the computer's history, a police spokesman said. Meanwhile, the attack appeared to have triggered copycat threats. In a town near Duesseldorf, northwest of Winnenden, police said they arrested a 17-year-old student on Friday who allegedly told his fellow students he was planning an attack on his high school. During a search of his home in the town of Ennepetal, police said they found instructions on how to make explosives and a "chemical substance" that could have been used in the process. No further details were immediately available. In the town of Ilsfeld, northeast of Winnenden near Heilbronn, police sealed off a high school early on Friday after learning of a threat posted in an Internet chat room, said a police spokesman. Authorities found nothing immediately in their search of the school. And in the northern state of Lower Saxony, police arrested a 21-year-old man near the town of Soltau who threatened in an Internet chat room to kill 16 people at a school. Police spokesman Peter Hoppe said the man turned out to possess no weapons and claimed to have just been having fun. They plan to charge him with disturbing the public peace. In Winnenden, residents mourned and expressed shock that a bloody rampage could take place in their small and peaceful town. Teenagers and their parents lit candles and placed flowers at a makeshift memorial on the edge of the school grounds, while Gunter Ottinger, governor of the surrounding state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, signed the condolence book at City Hall. Police were also trying to understand more about the motives of Kretschmer, a quiet and withdrawn teen who wore glasses. Authorities and schoolmates described him as an unobtrusive teenager who had friends and never stirred up trouble in school.

Newspaper delivery man thwarts armed robber's attemps to flee

03:16
Carrollton police are crediting a newspaper delivery man with helping them to nab an apparent armed robber. It happened early Wednesday morning at a Carrollton Citgo gas station on Alabama Road which had just been robbed. Raymond Ackey said he noticed the armed man leaving the store and decided to give chase. “He jumped in his car and took off and I noticed in the window that a dude on the phone looked out and was taking the tag number and I didn’t see no tag on the car so I immediately took chase,” said Ackey. Ackey chased in his car he was using on his early morning paper route. However instead of delivering the news he was making it, especially when things took a dangerous turn a few blocks into the pursuit. “He opened his door and started firing and I leaned on the passenger side and when I got back up I shot back at him and he took off again,” said Ackey. Carrollton police said Ackey quickly got in touch with them. “He immediately followed the vehicle and called 911 and let us know what was going on exactly what his involvement was,” said Detective Brandon Podaras. He said Ackey was instrumental in the capture of 25 year old Michael Dennis Hines, who crashed his car off the side of a road and was found hiding under a bridge. “We’re thankful this gentleman did what he did but we also people not to do this just to keep themselves out of danger. He helped us out a good bit and helped us break a couple of cases,” said Detective Podaras. He said based on evidence and similar clothing Hines has been linked to at least three other recent Carrollton gas station robberies. “So what is it that gives you that fearlessness? The Lord,” said Ackey. The 44 year old father and grandfather stopped by to say hello to the people at the gas station, thankful to have been helpful to them and police in thwarting an armed robbery and more. “I wouldn’t change nothing. I would do it again,” said Ackey. Carrollton Police said Ackey was not charged since he was defending himself. Carrollton Police said the suspect, Michael Dennis Hines, faces more than a dozen charges connected to robberies, traffic and weapons violations. Police told FOX 5 News Hines was a janitor at the University of West Georgia.

Various cars passing in Mexico City streets STORYLINE: Mexico appeared to return to normal on Friday, a day after restaurants, cinemas, bars and businesses reopened and students returned to high schools and universities for the first time in two weeks after they were shut following the outbreak of swine flu. However, as cities and communities prepared to resume their daily routine, Mexico confirmed one more death from swine flu, bringing the national death toll to 45. Meanwhile, Mexico's economy continues to suffer as a result of the the swine flu and a decline in exports to the United States. Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard on Friday said the economic circumstances were "much more difficult than anticipated or predicted from the month of December". Mexico's emergence from a national shutdown also hit some snags. For example, some high schools were not cleaned up in time to open. Mexico's government has said it was not letting its guard down and that all returning students would be checked for swine flu. It gave an additional 15 (m) million US dollars to Mexico's 32 state governments to buy whatever is needed to disinfect classrooms and provided educators with a guide on ways to protect schools from the virus. At a high school in Mexico City, health officials distributed sanitising gel but students were seen without protective masks. A teacher there expressed frustration at having failed to motivate the students to wear masks, saying "the young people think it's a temporary situation so they don't take care about the transmission." Universities reopened in the southern state of Chiapas, but various high schools in isolated mountain communities remained closed because officials could not disinfect them in time. All will open by Monday, said a state education spokesman. Primary schools and day care centres reopen next week, while fans will be allowed to attend soccer games and churches will reopen this weekend, authorities said. Mexico's government said it was not letting its guard down and that all students are being checked for swine flu. It's a small world The Korea Times teenagers shot shooting virginia tech school shooting

01:14
https://www.drivingthenation.com/lou-ann-hammond-in-korea/ Lou Ann Hammond, CEO, www.drivingthenation.com & www.carlist.com started the week in Los Angeles at the Shell eco-marathon where 20 Universities from North America were competing in a challenge to see who could make a car that could go the most miles per gallon. Each school had a different story; the hydrogen group was there with their teacher, Robert Franz, who had told them he would shave his mustache off if his team went through every safety, fueling and driving test, getting it right the first time. The solar group had a father and son team involved, the father having been on a similar team 35 years ago when he was in school. By the time I left Los Angeles I was really impressed with the high school and college kids that had worked so hard to be the best they could be as their car went over the finish line. As David Sexton, President, Shell Oil USA, said, "This is about the kids and the new technology they bring to the competition." I was just leaving for Korea when I heard that a young kid had killed 33 University kids. My first thought went to the kids I had just left. It would be twenty hours before I would know more. I then flew off to Korea to talk to the Vice Chairman of Hyundai and the President of Research and Development, but during that time we also got to see a concept that didn't look like a Hyundai and a fuel cell that Hyundai will be bringing out in 2010. Young Korean men and women that looked like they had recently graduated gave the presentations. And after each presentation they gave you, could see that they were so happy that the presentation they had given in English was over and they had done it. After the presentations, I returned to the hotel. I was learning more about the killings and was told, quietly, that it was one Korean teenager that had killed all 32 of the Virginia Tech University teenagers and teachers and injured more. We questioned why the Koreans were so upset. Cho was born in Korea, but he had lived in America for more years than he had lived in Korea and was going to the University in Virginia. We were told that Koreans feel a cultural connection, almost a moral responsibility. Koreans were proud of Tiger Woods when he acknowledged his Korean heritage and Michelle Wee when she became famous for her golf game. On Friday -which was Thursday in the United States - pictures of Cho and the manifesto, or rantings, started appearing in Korean American print and on Korean TV. The same day that those articles appeared, so did an article talking about a deal struck between Korean students to work with U.S. students on higher technology issues. That same day one of the parents of a victim came on TV and asked that the pictures of Cho stopped being spread around, that Cho was becoming the center of attention. Almost instantly, the pictures of Cho stopped on Korean TV and none appeared in the Korean American newspapers. They were replaced with pictures of teenagers from Virginia in mourning, Koreans placing flowers and lanterns being lit by Monks with the names of all the teenagers on each one. Mental illness and severe depression are not exclusive to race or gender. What is more universal, and should be celebrated, is the pride of teenagers when they are doing what they love, when they are sharing their intellect with other young men and women who have common interest. Within the last week, that was seen in both the United States and Korea. Babysitter - Kids' Poems and Stories With Michael Rosen

04:19
Babysitter Read by Michael Rosen from The Hypnotiser You can browse and buy Michael Rosen Books here: http://bit.ly/MichaelRosenBooks "I wrote a book of poems for children called 'The Hypnotiser' some years ago and then it went out of print. I couldn't get anyone to reprint it, so I asked my son Joe to film me performing the book." - Noice! Michael Rosen Check out Michael's website for news, updates and fun. https://www.michaelrosen.co.uk Go behind the scenes and see how our videos are made: https://workbyjoe.wordpress.com/2015/... Who is Michael Rosen? Who Is Michael Rosen?
