This video walks through searching Education Source and ERIC for articles on a specific topic- integrating technology in the classroom. Robots - 2016 News and Articles - Robotic Technology(Full Documentary) As humans, all of our greatest dreams and biggest fears about technology seem to be provoked by the stirring topic of robotic technologies. Robots have the potential to eliminate a great amount of monotonous work, provide assistance to human workers and serve in highly specialized environments, like hospitals or factories. At the same time, people can be concerned with how this technology will change daily life and worry about increasing isolation among humans or the loss of a job as a result. Even major names in technology development have showed signs of being spooked by robotics. In a talk given at a technology symposium held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk called robots the “biggest existential threat” to the human race, even arguing for national and international regulatory oversight on artificial (AI) development. Musk is even an investor in robotics, having put money into the AI development firm Vicarious, making his unease over the negative potential of robotics all the more telling. This holiday season, robots will likely have a much higher profile than they typically enjoy. Retail stores will prove to be a major testing ground for the consumer use of robotic technologies, as Lowe’s recently unveiled a lineup of robotic sales assistants, known as OSHbots, for certain stores. The robot can communicate in multiple languages and can direct customers to the exact location of an item they’re seeking in the store. Collision avoidance and autonomous navigation technologies are incorporated into these sales assistants, helping them travel across large stores safely. Robots have been here for a while but will likely be taking a much greater role in our daily lives. As we found in researching this technology, there are those who still believe that the utopian robotic future of The Jetsons is still very much within our grasp. In today’s article, we’ll look at some of the current activities in robotic development, break down some of the issues facing robotics technologies in our world and view some of the most recently issued patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to protect inventions in this field. 10 Oldest Technologies Scientists Still Can’t Explain

16:49
Thousands of years ago great minds managed to create incredible technologies that were way ahead of their time, like a fire that couldn’t be extinguished by water, an unbreakable medieval sword, and even an ancient computer from 200 B.C.E.! You’d be surprised to find out what crazy inventions existed back then that science still can’t explain today. If you’re ready to learn more about these mind-blowing ancient inventions plus a whole lot more, then keep on watching. TIMESTAMPS The stone globes of Costa Rica 0:59 The Roman dodecahedron 3:16 The Phaistos Disk in Crete 4:48 Greek fire 6:14 Damascus steel 7:31 The Iron pillar of Delhi 8:37 The Viking Ulfberht sword 10:11 The Voynich manuscript 11:56 The Zhang Heng seismograph 14:06 The Antikythera mechanism 15:12 #oldtechnology #damascucsteel #viking Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -Granodiorite rocks can easily be carved using temperature techniques. Hundreds of stone spheres were found quarried in the foothills of the Talamanca Mountains. Researchers even saw a gigantic ball weighing over 16 tons. -The Roman dodecahedron had 12 flat pentagon-shaped faces with a knob protruding on each corner. It might have been a dice, a kid’s toy, a candle holder, a simple decoration, a measuring device on the battlefield, or an astronomical instrument, to name a few. -The Phaistos Disk was made from clay and measures about 6.2 inches in diameter. Experts concluded that it was a prayer to an ancient Minoan goddess. -The formula of Greek fire was a well-guarded state secret for over 7 centuries. Greek fire was used in naval warfare. -Blades made from Damascus steel were the most sought after in medieval Europe. And that’s because they were the best swords at the time. -The Iron pillar of Delhi dates back to the Gupta period, which lasted from about 240 to 590 C.E. A small amount of rust has started to form, but it is strange that there isn’t more. -Viking Ulfberht swords are believed to have been made around 800 to 1,000 C.E., but experts were sure that the technology used to make swords of such extraordinary quality didn’t come around until 800 years later. -The Voynich manuscript has 240 pages broken up into four sections: herbal, astrological, balneological, and pharmacological. There have literally been dozens of failed attempts to crack this thing. -In 132 C.E., Zhang Heng, a Chinese inventor, astronomer, engineer, scientist, scholar, and artist, invented a seismoscope and presented it to the Han court as an instrument for measuring seasonal winds and the Earth’s movements. -The Antikythera mechanism was retrieved by a group of divers in 1900 and has been dubbed “the world’s first analog computer” and it was made around 200 B.C.E. Technology articles. Dreaming flying Auto (Part-1/2)

12:27
Scientists Created a Plastic That’s Infinitely Recyclable

05:39
Plastic is suffocating the planet, but what if we could make recycling plastic more efficient? This Lawrence Berkeley National Lab team has created a brand new kind of plastic that can be recycled endlessly. Are You Seasoning Your Food With Microplastics? - https://youtu.be/ZFgpudNSArI Read More: Closed-loop recycling of plastics enabled by dynamic covalent diketoenamine bonds https://www.nature.com/articles/s41557-019-0249-2 "The closed-loop polymer life cycles enabled by PDKs contrast with those for conventional polymers, which are synthesized using irreversible bond-forming reactions that make it difficult and costly to recover the original monomers in high purity. Furthermore, while dynamic covalent polymers have been designed, in principle, around the ability to exchange bonds27, examples of energy-efficient depolymerization and chemical separations to obtain immediately reusable monomers are exceedingly rare. " Plastic Gets a Do-Over: Breakthrough Discovery Recycles Plastic From the Inside Out https://newscenter.lbl.gov/2019/05/06/recycling-plastic-from-the-inside-out/ According to the researchers, the problem with many plastics is that the chemicals added to make them useful – such as fillers that make a plastic tough, or plasticizers that make a plastic flexible – are tightly bound to the monomers and stay in the plastic even after it’s been processed at a recycling plant. Facts and Figures about Materials, Waste and Recycling https://www.epa.gov/facts-and-figures-about-materials-waste-and-recycling/plastics-material-specific-data "PA used data from the American Chemistry Council and the National Association for PET Container Resources to measure the recycling of plastic. While overall the amount of recycled plastics is relatively small—3.1 million tons for a 9.1 percent recycling rate in 2015—the recycling of some specific types of plastic containers is more significant. The recycling rate of PET bottles and jars was 29.9 percent in 2015, and the rate for HDPE natural bottles was 30.3 percent in 2015." ____________________ Elements is more than just a science show. 10:58
SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS FOR KIDS AND ADULTS Check out a collection of cool experiments that kids and grown-ups will totally love: - Bouncy egg experiment. Supplies you will need a glass of vinegar, marker core piece, and a raw egg. Remove a core piece from a marker and place into a glass of vinegar. Carefully place an egg into a glass. Leave the egg in the glass for 1 day. When the egg has started to become translucent, take it out of the glass. Your bouncy egg is ready. Check if it’s jumping - Check out if an egg is fresh. Place eggs in water. Old eggs will be on the top of the water. - Growing and shrinking eggs. Pour vinegar in a high glass and put an egg inside and leave for one day. The egg has become bigger and translucent. Take this egg and place in a glass full of maple syrup and wait for 1 day. The egg will shrink. After that place the same egg in a glass with water, also you can add some dye. And again, wait for a day. Check out the result! - Ink experiment. Make a drop of water and a drop of glue. Add one drop of ink to water and glue and watch the magic! - Racing spiders. Take a square piece of foil and draw a small spider with a marker. Pour water on the spider, take a straw and blow on a spider. Draw another spider and start racing! They are moving - Glowing slime. In a bowl, mix glue, fluorescent dye, sodium tetraborate - Make a ‘’pillow’’ for your hand if you work long hours at a desc. Mix starch with water and pour inside the balloon. Place this “pillow” under your wrist for comfortable computer use. Watch the video till end and find more cool experiments for a boring evening! We’re Using Stem Cells to Reverse Baldness and It’s Actually Working

03:28
Researchers have found a new way to grow hair using stem cells, and it’s showing some promise for treating baldness. Ancient Humans & Neanderthals Had Sex, Here's How It Changed Us Forever - https://youtu.be/ifSv1jXUzn4 Read More: Mesenchymal-epithelial interactions during hair follicle morphogenesis and cycling https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3496047/ “Embryonic hair follicle induction and formation are regulated by mesenchymal-epithelial interactions between specialized dermal cells and epidermal stem cells that switch to a hair fate. Similarly, during postnatal hair growth, communication between mesenchymal dermal papilla cells and surrounding epithelial matrix cells coordinates hair shaft production.” To baldly grow: Japan scientists regrow hair at record rate https://medicalxpress.com/news/2018-02-baldly-japan-scientists-regrow-hair.html “The study used two kinds of cells placed in silicone containers to cultivate "hair follicle germs"—the sources of the tiny organs that grow and sustain hair.” We Just Figured out How to Activate Stem Cells to Treat Baldness https://futurism.com/we-just-figured-out-how-to-activate-stem-cells-to-treat-baldness/ “Researchers from UCLA have found a way to successfully reactivate stem cells in dormant hair follicles to promote hair growth in mice. Through this research, they've developed two drugs that could help millions of people worldwide treat conditions that lead to abnormal hair growth and retention.” ____________________ Elements is more than just a science show. Fractals aren’t just crazy cool mathematically infinite shapes. They might just have the capacity to revolutionize modern electronics as we know it. Thumbnail image courtesy of Sander Kempkes. There’s a Subterranean Biosphere Hiding in the Earth’s Crust and It’s MASSIVE - https://youtu.be/9h7DSJVeSG8 Read More: Design and characterization of electrons in a fractal geometry https://www.nature.com/articles/s41567-018-0328-0 "Here, we show how arrays of artificial atoms can be defined by controlled positioning of CO molecules on a Cu (111) surface2,3,4, and how these sites couple to form electronic Sierpiński fractals." Electrons in 1.58 dimensions? What the frac! https://www.uu.nl/en/news/electrons-in-158-dimensions-what-the-frac “These behaviours give rise to different possibilities for technological applications and electronic systems. But what happens if electrons live in 1.58 dimensions – and what does it actually mean to live in 1.58 dimensions?” How Fractals Work https://science.howstuffworks.com/math-concepts/fractals.htm “Unconventional 20th century mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot created the term fractal from the Latin word fractus (meaning irregular or fragmented) in 1975. These irregular and fragmented shapes are all around us.” What Is A Fractal (and what are they good for)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFtTdf3I6Ug “Fractals are complex, never-ending patterns created by repeating mathematical equations. Yuliya, a undergrad in Math at MIT, delves into their mysterious properties and how they can be found in technology and nature.” ____________________ Elements is more than just a science show. What is Clean Technology? (To the Point)

01:50
What exactly does clean technology mean? For more videos, articles, and podcasts, check out Simply Science: https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/simply-science La version française: https://youtu.be/OwZiSMsUR3k Transcript below: ____ Our planet is changing everyday. We are now seeing some of the impacts of climate change like floods, wildfires and drought. So how do we fight climate change? One solution is clean technology. Around the world, clean technologies are reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and lessening the impact that we have on our water, land, and air. But what exactly are clean technologies? It’s really just making products, processes, and services greener or better for the planet. Think of new energy technologies - solar, hydro, tidal, wind, and nuclear. Or new types of transportation like electric vehicles. Or changing the way we design, construct and run homes so that they use less energy. Clean technologies are also helping us develop our natural resources in a more sustainable way – by reducing water use and turning waste products into things we can use. Not surprisingly, the demand for clean technologies is on the rise. The global market is more than $1 trillion a year and will continue to grow over the next decade. That is good news for clean tech in Canada, it’s good news for jobs, and it’s good news for the environment. Clean tech is changing our world for the better.

How Space Triggers Herpes in Astronauts

04:34
The herpes simplex virus can hide deep in your DNA, evading your immune system for years, and sometimes make it to space by hitching onto the backs of astronauts and reactivating on the ISS. What is it about space that causes its comeback? Did NASA’s Twin Study Results Just Change Spaceflight Forever? - https://youtu.be/qwX04NyofLc Read More: Herpes Virus Reactivation in Astronauts During Spaceflight and Its Application on Earth https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fmicb.2019.00016/full "There is increasing evidence to suggest that these spaceflight-associated stressors chronically amplify the release of stress hormones, which negatively affects the immune system, especially the adaptive immune system facilitating latent herpes virus reactivation during and after spaceflight. Increased levels of salivary, plasma and urinary stress hormones such as cortisol and catecholamines commonly accompany spaceflight" Virus reactivation: a panoramic view in human infections https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3142679/ "With regard to future therapies, current inhibitors for pathways such as MAPK/NF-κB are unspecific, as they inhibit activity in both host and infected cells. We propose that a strategy for effective antiviral therapies would be to design specifically regulated inhibitors that do not lower signaling below functional physiological levels. By doing so, we can ensure that the activity of such signaling molecules is not reduced below threshold levels in uninfected or tumor cells. " How herpesvirus invades nervous system https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/03/130328091754.htm "Northwestern Medicine scientists have identified a component of the herpesvirus that "hijacks" machinery inside human cells, allowing the virus to rapidly and successfully invade the nervous system upon initial exposure." ____________________ Elements is more than just a science show.
