Reimagining Classrooms: Teachers as Learners and Students as Leaders | Kayla Delzer | TEDxFargo

13:01
Why do some classrooms look the same now as they did 70 years ago? In this passionate talk, second grade teacher Kayla Delzer speaks about her mission to revitalize learning and the classroom environment. Kayla explains how to release the power in the classroom by giving students ownership of their learning and making it relevant to them. Breaking down the four walls of the classroom allows her students to become globally connected - and you won’t believe the endeavors her students conquer by embracing purposeful technology. Kayla Delzer is a 2nd grade teacher and Project Lead the Way Lead Teacher in West Fargo, North Dakota. In August, she will begin her 8th year of teaching 2nd grade and her second year with West Fargo Public Schools (WFPS). Teaching is her true passion in life, and she enjoys her job and helping children to love learning and become creative problem solvers. Her students are her focus in life; they are like family to her. In August 2014, she completed her master’s degree in Elementary Education. She also serves on the Technology Task Force and Social Media Task Force for WFPS. Her classroom Twitter account, @tweetingtopdogs, has allowed her students to learn virtually with hundreds of classrooms and educational experts from all over the world. Kayla has teamed up with several companies to improve the lives of students and teachers, and she works frequently with GoNoodle and Remind. She is highly sought after by educational and technology companies to preview and review their products. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Tell Me About Yourself - Good Answer To This Tough Interview Question

03:08
How to perfectly answer the "tell me about yourself" job interview question. For more in depth information, check out this article on our blog: https://theinterviewguys.com/tell-me-about-yourself-interview-question Most people screw the "Tell us about yourself" type job interview question up so watch our video to learn exactly what you need to do. Here's what you can expect from this Jeff and Mike Job interview tips video: This video uncovers 3 specific job interview tips when it comes to answering this tough interview question. The problem with the Tell me about yourself question is that it leaves things incredibly open ended and can lead job interviewees down a path that can lead to them being disqualified from the job within seconds! It's no surprise so many people are always trying to figure just how they should be answering this question, after all it's one of the most common opening questions you'll face at an interview. I know both Mike and I screwed up this question for years. As you'll see in the video, the interviewer doesn't care about your personal story. They're not interested in the fact that you grew up with a puppy named "Tex" and that you grew up in a sleepy town in Wisconsin... They want to know about your specific work achievements and strengths! Job interview questions are all about discovering whether you can bring to the position, exactly what they're looking for in terms of abilities and qualities. Ones that are going to benefit the company you are interviewing with. Here are some excerpts from the video: Jeff's bad answer: "Well, I'm from Seattle, Washington, I enjoy mountain biking and cooking and my favorite color is..." Jeff's good answer: Well, I've been in sales for the last 5 years. My most recent experience was in the retail industry, where I was a manager at the Comfy Shoe Company. I was personally responsible for a 30% increase in sales over the last year. I'd say that my main strength is my leadership ability, which was evident in the way I mentored my sales team to reach our lofty goals. What I am looking for is a company that values teamwork and the group dynamic, where I can join a strong team and have a positive impact on the team dynamic and sales revenue. 3 Tips to answering the Tell Me About Yourself question: MIKE There are three main points that you need to remember when answering this question...what's the first one Jeff? JEFF Well, as you saw in my bad answer, you absolutely DO NOT want to go on and on about your personal life or hobbies and interests. MIKE Which leads me to point number two. You want to include specific work achievements from your past in your answer. But there's one final trick right Jeff? JEFF That's right Mike. It is always a good idea to mention your strengths and abilities in your answer. Please leave your comments below, share this video with your friends on Facebook and Twitter, and don't forget... As we talk about in the video, if you want to give perfect answers to interview questions that will get you the job....You need to tailor each answer to exactly what the company is looking for. This is the method that the top job seekers in the world use. It's also helped Mike and I get offers from one job interview after another. There's a bit more to "Tailoring" than I can go into in this description or in the video but we've written a brand new special report that explains this incredibly powerful job interview method. The next thing you need to do if you want to get a job from your next interview is read this report immediately... You can get it for free by clicking the link at the end of the video. Thanks, Jeff & Mike "The Interview Guys"

Requirements for English Teachers in Middle East & Africa | Teach & Live abroad!

03:37
No matter where in the world you intend to teach after completing your TEFL course, there will be certain requirements that you will need to meet in order to work as an English teacher. These requirements may involve qualifications, visa regulations, experience or whether you are a native or non-native English speaker. Countries in the Middle East/North Africa region differ somewhat in what is required of English teachers wanting to work there. This infographic aims to highlight the main requirements for some of the countries in the region. A TEFL certificate of at least 120 hours is generally a minimum requirement for the countries on our list and you'll need a degree if you are planning to work in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Oman and Bahrain, but not if you want to work in Jordan or Qatar. Most countries require teachers to have a work visa applied for before or after arrival. In Egypt a tourist visa can be converted to a work visa after arriving in the country. As with the majority of countries around the world, no previous teaching experience is necessary for jobs in Egypt, Jordan or Morocco. However, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates do require at least two years previous teaching experience and some experience is preferred in Bahrain. But the UAE and Saudi Arabia do offer some of the best salaries for English teachers in the TEFL industry. Jobs in most countries on the list are open to fluent non-native speakers of English however Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates prefer English teachers to be native speakers. Oman's employment visa regulations mean that you need to be between the ages of 21 and 60 to be able to work there and anyone wishing to work in the United Arab Emirates will need to have an HIV test and criminal background check before being allowed to work there as an English teacher. Cornstarch Goo - Cool Science Experiment

02:36
Check out this and other cool science experiments at http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiments/ This is a three part video segment showing you everything you need to know when it comes to making the perfect batch of cornstarch and water goo. Mix cornstarch and water in this classic experiment to form a gooey liquid and solid material that behaves like quicksand. Some people refer to this as the Oobleck recipe, others call it a Non-Newtonian fluid. After watching these video segments, you'll call it a great science lesson as your students learn about the amazing properties of this cornstarch and water mixture. And yes... Steve shows you how to perform the "Cornstarch Walk on Water" on a much smaller scale - using only 100 boxes of cornstarch in a small pool - instead of the 2,500 pounds he used on the Ellen Show. Webinar on Science Outdoor Education: challenges in science teacher training

48:52
Speakers: Olga Mayoral García-Berlanga, RCC Fellow, Visiting Researcher at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, Departamento de Didáctica de las Ciencias Experimentales y Sociales, University of Valencia; Ana María Caballero McGuire, Children’s Education Fellow, Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University “Why do science teachers teach inside classrooms and labs? What keeps teachers from taking students out from the classroom and into the field? The answers to these questions may be related to how we are training our teachers. Taking students to outdoor natural spaces is understood by students as a “fun” activity and by many teachers as an activity that doesn’t necessarily involve “authentic” science. Indeed, taking students out into the “wild” is often perceived by teachers as risky fun. While biologists and botanists base a large part of their work in field studies, this approach to learning science seems not to permeate the way current science classes are taught. A switch in teacher training is needed in order to include outdoor education as a cornerstone of science education.”
